Leaving the cave, going into the unknown

Chapter 23

I walked back to the venue with the letter still in my hand and went to go find the guys. I felt like I was a woman on a mission and I had no other thought than to find Alan and give him this letter. I walked in and out of rooms until I found myself outside; I turned around to find the door had locked behind me.

“Way to get yourself locked outside you dummy.” I mumbled to myself. The show would start in 30min and being my stupid self I left my phone in the bus, I walked around the venue to the VIP entrance and went to pull my pass out to find it not in the pocket I left it. I searched my whole self-including the bag I was carrying and couldn’t find it anywhere, either someone took it or I dropped it, one-way or another I was locked out. I went up to the security guard to see if he could help me, although my hopes were petty low.

“Hello sir?” He turned around “Yes could you help me, my boyfriend’s in the band and I’ve lost my pass and my cellphone is in the bus. I don’t expect you to just let me in but could you contact him and he could tell you. His names Alan Ashby” I pleaded.

“Alan Ashby you say? Really? Cause just 10 minutes ago another girl came here and said she was his girlfriend and than another and another. This isn’t my first time around the block missy and I know girls like you are only looking for one thing and I’m not going to be apart of that. You have a ticket or you don’t, and if you do I suggest you get in the line, they’re opening doors now.” He turned his back to me, as rude as he was I understood where he was coming from. I had seen first hand people claiming to be with one of the guys so they could get back stage and try and sleep with them. I had one more option, try and find someone and use their cell phone to call him or one of the guys. I saw a girl who looked about my age and seemed rather friendly so I went to go ask her.

“Excuse me could I use your phone? It’s kind of an emergency and mine…died.” I didn’t want to say I left it in the bus because I didn’t want her to pressure me into getting her backstage, I wasn’t sure if I was allowed to do that.

“Ya sure, happens to me all the time.” She handed me her phone and I dialed Alan, it rang a couple of times before he picked up.

“Hello?” He asked.

“Hey it’s me Alex ya I’m locked outside and I lost my pass and they won’t let me in.” I didn’t want to say his name and alert this girl.

“Shit Alex we’ve been looking for you I’ve been worried sick. Ok wait by the side door ok? I’ll be right there.” He said out of breath letting me know he was running through the venue.

“Wait” I said in a hushed tone so the girl couldn’t hear me “Is it possible to get a VIP pass for this girl that let me use her phone?” He said yes and to hurry and meet him there. I hung up and handed the girl her phone back.

“Thank you so much you don’t realize what a life savor you are.” I said.

“No problem, enjoy the show.” She started to walk away but I stopped her.

“Wait! I want to repay you for what you did, here come with me.” Before she could reject I grabbed her hand and started to drag her. I think she was too confused and shocked to resist so she just followed me to the side door. Soon enough Alan answered it and gave me a huge hug of relief.

“Alex thank god you’re ok I was fucking worried sick. And you must be the girl that lent her your phone thanks so much. You want to come backstage?” He asked. She was far too in shock to talk so she just nodded her head.

“What’s your name?” I asked

“Rose. I love you guys,” She stuttered out.

“Thanks. Now come on show’s about to start.” We started running though the venue before he went rushing out on stage. I hung out with Rose, she was really cool and we had a lot in common. We exchanged numbers, I could see myself being really good friends with her. It was just what I needed after the whole thing with Kate, just some quality girl time. Maybe things were looking up.

The show ended and Rose and I went back to the bus while the guys got all situated in the venue to leave. I showed her around the bus before we got some beers and sat in the front lounge to talk. She was pretty chill and laid back so we got along just fine, it was nice to have a girl around even for a couple of hours. Soon enough though the boys came back and we had to leave. We were just waiting on Austin so I introduced Rose to everyone, just as I was saying goodbye Austin walked in and looked at Rose immediately, giving her a goofy look. It was safe to say he thought she was cute and it made Rose blush.

“Hello! You must be the Rose that helped our little lost Alex, I’m Austin.” He put out his hand to greet her and she accepted the handshake it lasted a little longer than it should before she pulled away.

“I know I love your music. Anyway you guys have to go and it was really nice meeting you all. Alex thanks for making this night really special for me, I greatly appreciate it.” I got up and hugged her and told her to call me anytime. Austin quickly volunteered to walk her to her car and I just rolled my eyes. I sat down next to Alan and cuddled into him, it had been such a long day I had almost forgot about the letter that was in my pocket.

“Oh shit here Alan. I met this girl at Starbucks today and she asked me to give you this letter.” He smiled down at me and kissed my head, he told me he would read it later.

“How much to you want to bet that Austin is asking for her number?” He whispered.

“He defiantly is, she was really cool. I could see myself being friends with her, now that I don’t really have any.” I laid my head in defeat on his shoulder.

“You and Kate will work it out, I know it. I’m glad you had a goodnight.” I was just about to fall asleep when Austin came barging into the bus cheering. Seems that he got her number after all.

Notes

I volunteered at Warped tour this year in my city (I recommend it, it was really fun) and I had 3 people come up to me asking to use my phone. Of coarse I said yes cause I hate saying no. As much as I love to help it’s pretty nerve racking seeing someone use your phone when you think they could run away at any moment with it into the crazy crowd at warped. But I recommend volunteering there cause it was fun especially if you want to work there.
