..but missed.

It missed. The bullet didn't hit Austin. No, it hit the wall three feet to the right. I gasped in amazement as I saw him still standing.

Three people fell over. A flying figure shrouded in the dark had prevented Aus from being shot. Hex, my father, and the man with short blonde hair had fallen over as they all paused from the flying assailant.

Mom.

Mom.

My MOM. She was currently punching my dad in the face, and kicking Hex in some place I really shouldn't be saying.

Austin, Alan, and I rushed forward. I made my sister stay behind, hiding behind a metal bin. We all flew into the middle of the seven people. A slash of metal made me scream as a knife bit into my shoulder blade, but only cut a slight bit. I barely felt the after sting as I landed a right hook on Stryke. He held up his hands to defend himself, but didn't attack back.

A shot made us freeze. The circle cleared as we stood facing each other. Stryke hung in the back, where Hex was passed out. My dad had a bloody nose and his arm hung at a limp, but his right hand was up, the gun smoking. We cleared way, but I could barely manage out a scream.

I watched as my father shot my mother, three times.

She fell over. LP rushed to my side. I held her back as we stared in shocked silence. My mom fell, gasping to the pavement.

(Blood, pain,
on the cement.
She's twisted in agony,
crooked and bent.)

"MOM!" I screamed over and over, kneeling by her side. Her soft eyes flickered to me as she let out a shaky breath, touching my hand lightly.

Then she went cold.

(Dying, then dead,
on the floor.
Lay in the red,
Mom's no more.)

I let out a sob as I watched her life ebb out of her, the blood a small stream from the crook of her mouth. I could hear LP cry beside me, alongside Alan and Austin.

"Mom? Mom? Not again, please not again!" Austin begged. He lost his mother. Twice. But my mom. She was gone. She was the one who kissed the wound better, she was there when dad wasn't. She was the one that gave me courage, she fought Breast Cancer.

All to end up like this.

No, no. This isn't life, this must be a dream. And all I could do was kneel beside her dead body in the dark. The stars mourned our loss, but it wasn't over.

A gun clicked in front of us. Austin pulled me up, an arm around me. Us three, side by side, we stood against the six still up.

But behind them, there was movement. No way. No way. No way. My brain couldn't process this.

Was that, Tino? Phil? Aaron?

They were silent, peeking out from the corner. Our foes hadn't spotted them. Alan barely moved, but the gesture was enough for them. He told them to go, get out, just with the bob of his head. It could've looked like a twitch to anyone else.

The three figures disappeared.

"Well this is unfortunate." My dad laughed.

How dare he laugh at the women who was there for us when you weren't?! We stood silent in front of him. I couldn't bare to look at the blood that pooled at my shoes.

"You've been paid. Let us go." Alan told him shakily. LP was still crying in his side.

"Unfortunately, the wrong person paid. The due is still up, but since it seems like no one is willing to step forward, I'll just choose." My father laughed evilly. I couldn't believe it. I would still lose someone else tonight.

"Stop. I'll go." I told him. Alan could take care of LP. Austin would still have Alan and LP. I was shot before. I'll do it again.

"Rae, no." Aus told me, taking my arm. I jerked away and stepped beside my mom. I was ready to join her. LP cried out for me, but I ignored her.

"Take care of her for me." I whispered to Alan. My dad pulled up the gun-he seemed eager to get rid of another one of us.

"Just leave them alone." I spat to him. He nodded and pulled the trigger. I closed my eyes.

Stryke looked away.

Austin reached forward for me.

Alan gasped in surprise.

Mom watched from above.

But the ammo never hit me.

I was shoved to the side.

Lily-Pearl caught the bullet.

I screamed to her.

I watched her fall.

(Curtains closed; take a bow
I think she fooled all of us now.
She took my bullet
and stole my heart.
My little sister,
To young to depart.)
