The First Punch

-Kel’s POV-
When I got into the car I started it and quickly pulled out of the lot. The diner is only a short drive from here… thankfully. I decided to take the backroads all the way to the diner. Why did no one want to go anywhere with me? Am I really that bad? I wish I wasn’t so weird so Lian and Alex wouldn’t be too ashamed to hang out with me…
I pulled into the diner parking lot. After I got out of the car and was heading to the diner entrance I saw the most beautiful car… I saw a black 50s thunderbird, shiny and well taken care of. I stood in front of the car in awe. I’ve only ever seen a few of these in such a good condition.
As I walked around the car I heard the door to the diner jingle. I looked up to see a tall figure coming towards me. He had black hair and lots of tattoos. He was cute. When he got close to me he looked at me and smiled.
"Hey. You like my ride?" The man asked.
"Uh...yeah... It's a 50s thunderbird... I love the 50's." I said trying not to make eye contact.
"Cool I love the 50's too! By the way, I'm Quin. Quin Fost. I go by Quin and only Quin." He pulled out a cigarette and lit it. "Your name?"
"Kalvin Costello. But everyone calls me Kel." I tried to stay calm but it was pretty obvious I was nervous.
"You okay? You seem nervous. Well I mean I do have that effect on people. Especially on flutter bums." Quin took a drag and blew out rings. He thinks I'm cute... Oh my god... "I'm gonna cop a breeze, will I see you again?"
"Uhm...well I'll probably be here again tomorrow..." I said pulling out my comb to brush through my hair.
"You have a phone right?" Quin asked putting the cigarette to his lips. I pulled out my phone and he did the same. We took each others phones and put our numbers in them.
"Well I'm gonna take off. Talk to you later!" With that he finished his cigarette and flicked it away. He got into his car and pulled away.
I'm actually spoke to him! And he spoke back! Holy fuck!
As I walked into the diner my phone went off. I pulled it out to see that Quin had texted me.
Quin: Hey! You seem really cool and you are cute. Tomorrow we meet at the diner at 12?
Kel: Uhm that should work. Seeing as to my best friend and my sister are hanging with a band.
Quin: What band? A rock band?
I sat down at the table and they took my order. I ordered my usual. A strawberry milk shake and a cheese burger.
Kel: They’re like rock kind of. They’re called Pierce The Veil.
Quin: One of my buddies is the drum tech for them! They’re on warped tour right?
Kel: Yeah.. My sisters marrying the bassist and my best friend is dating the guitarist. I liked the singer but he kinda brushed me off..
Quin: I would never brush you off. You’re way to cute.
I blushed hard as my food came. I took slow sips of the shake. My phone then started to ring. It was Lian. I took the call.
“Hey Li! Whats shakin’?”
“Where are you Kel? Are you safe? Who’s with you?” She rushed trying to get all the answers out of me.
“I’m at that 50’s diner, I am safe, and I’m alone. But I met this cute guy and I got his number and we’ve been texting. He had a black 50’s thunderbird. His name is Quin!”
“Just be careful. I don’t want you getting hurt. You’ve never been with anyone before. And I don’t want this to be like when we all thought Mike was nice but really he was an abuser. I’m just really careful about you Kel. I love you.” She sounded worried and I started to feel bad..
"But... Li, Jaime was the first guy you ever went out with seriously... And he's not like Mike!"
"Well yeah... I guess. Just be careful. Do you want us to come to the diner? Right now Jaime and I are just hanging around." I heard Jaime groan in the background saying that he didn't want to get up.
"No, I'll be okay. Have a killer time with Jaime. I'm gonna split. Bye! Love you!"
"I love you too." And with that I hung up the phone and put it on the table.
I grabbed my burger and took a huge bite out of it. About 10 minutes later I realised I didn't text Quin back!
Kel: xD you think I'm a flutter bum... Nah you're a flutter bum...
Quin: I thought you wouldn't reply to me. I thought I said something wrong :/
Kel: No, no you didn't!
Quin: Oh but I'm not a flutter bum..
For the continuation of the day we continued to text back and forth. When I left the diner I got back into the car and texted for Lian to come and let me into the venue again.
When I got to the venue Lian was there to let me in.
“Are you okay?” Lian asked rushing me inside the venue. I nodded.
“So how was your time with Jaime?” I asked as we walked further into the venue. She coughed awkwardly.
“It’s been good…” You could see Li blushing at this point. I started to laugh. Then we were stopped by a couple of fans.
“Oh my God! Lian! Can I get a picture with you! Seeing that you’ll be Mrs. Preciado soon!” The fans wouldn’t leave us so Li gave in and took pictures with them. Soon an even bigger crowd was near us. I don’t do well with big groups of people…
I turned to Lian quick and said goodbye then quickly scurried away. I was headed for the tent. I hope Vic isn’t there. I just want to see Alex and talk to her about Quin!
