LP's POV

I remember barely anything, but being pulled away from my home, from my mom. I couldn't see anything now, but heard two men breathing and talking in the front. I trembled a little from fear, but had to steady my breathing.

Rae would want me to be brave. Alan would want me to stay calm.

Austin would want me to punch them in the face, but my hands were bound. Darn.

I lay there for hours on end, or at least what felt like it. Whatever had made me sleepy had finally worn of after I passed between fitful sleep and peace multiple times. Now that the chemicals wore off, I could feel the fear tremble in my systems, filling me with nothing else. Where was I? Where were we going?

Would I make it out alive?

I should've listened to the people in school that say don't go into stranger's vans. But I didn't go, I just wanted to get the package from the silver eyed man. I stretched a little, and the talking fell silent.

"Awake?" A familiar voice asked the other man, who confirmed it. It must be the silver eyed man and someone else, but I didn't know who. I tried to sit up, struggling to find my balance and still slightly groggy.

"Welcome back to the land of the living." A voice chuckled. It seemed familiar, but not like the package man. I'd heard Rae talking to him before.

"Where am I?" I asked, but didn't expect an answer. Maybe my captors were kind and would shed some light on where I was.

"Middle of the desert Hell." One man grumbled. A desert? The place they were talking about, that's different than the place I've been.

"I've been there already." I responded quietly. There was a shocked silence for a moment as I waited for them to respond.

"Sure, kid." One chuckled, thinking I was joking.

"I was there when daddy shot Rae. I was there when daddy beat Rae and tried to beat me." I explained. At least these men weren't beating me. I still missed mommy. I yearned to cry out for her, but I was older than a mewling baby. I would be brave, for Rae, Austin, and my ginger princess.

The men were quiet for a moment. Then one asked, the man that may have talked to Rae, "Hey, Ryder didn't tell us this." He whispered to the other person up front. They thought I couldn't hear, but I did and I patiently listened to them.

One thing I learned, was when you're quiet enough, people soon forget you're there.

"Ryder shot Rae? This is news to me." The silver eyed man sighed.

"Will he shot her?" The other man asked. I twisted a little in my seat, but found a place to lean against.

"I don't know. It's just better not to question." The first answered. The car fell back into silence and I listened to the whirl of the tires against broken and cracked pavement. The realization hit me that I forgot my phone at home, that I forgot to text my Alan.

I nearly started to cry for that. But would he worry for me?

As the tires kept on turning, pushing us further and further from home, the more my hope diminished that I would make it back to my mom and sister, alive and well.
