I drove to the hospital in record time, but the thoughts of Ryker were still on my mind. A tight knot formed at the back of my throat. The pale building of the hospital loomed against the sky. My feat were lead as the car stopped. I checked my phone quickly as soon as the car shut off.
Austin: We'll be at your house by about 8 AM on Friday. Can't wait! Love you :)
Shutting my phone off, I pushed it into my pocket and jogged into the hospital's lobby. I pressed the button on the elevator to get to my destination. It took me a few minutes, but I got to the floor and went down the hall to my grandma's room. Knocking lightly, I pushed the door open.
LP, my mom, and my grandpa were all seated around my ill grandmother's bed.
"Hi, R." My mom sniffed. She pulled a chair up to the bed's side. My grandma opened her eyes a little as I sat down.
"Hello Raelyn." She whispered. A cough racked her small, frail body. I swallowed tears as she reached for my hand. I held her hand in mine for a moment. It felt unusually cold.
"Hello, Grandma." I smiled. The machines that littered the room let out the occasional beep that felt odd and unnatural in this mourning room.
"Raelyn, I remember when you were little, and you used to never let go of my hand when you stayed at our house. You were so tiny back then." She smiled weakly. A tear dripped from her. I could feel my own liquid sadness pool at the corners of my eyes.
"I remember that. You're going to be okay." I told her. She let out another cough and her breathing shuddered.
"I'm going to be healed really soon." She told me happily. I smiled at her optimism. After the other members of my family talked to her, it was about time for us to go.
"Goodbye, Grandma. I love you." I told her. She watched me as I lingered at the door frame.
"I love you to, Rae." She whispered back. I smiled at the effort for her to talk. The three of us walked back down to our car. We drove home in complete silence.
At 9:34, we received a phone call. She passed peacefully, but nevertheless, I ran to my room. I wanted to run away from my problems. Inside, I locked the door and threw on my headphones, perching precariously on my bed's edge. I watched the sky peek out with a lonesome star. My thoughts wandered freely.
Her last words, I finally understood their meaning. She was healed and well in whatever life came after this one.
The tears stained my floor as I eventually moved to sit under my window. My arms curled around themselves in an attempt to keep warm. The tears ran down my cheeks, but didn't stop them.
A fiery pain bloomed through my arm. It was wonderful and felt distracting under the gentle caress of the night winds. Looking down, I discovered I had scratched long red welts in my arm. One of them bled a little. Leaning down on my arms, I let the salty sorry mix with the scarlet red pain.
I just wanted somebody to hold me and say anything that can make this all okay.

Yay, I'm sooo happy you loved it! Third book is still in progress and I'll try to update fairly frequently!! I'm with you on staying up....If it's two in the morning, I'll just get on my phone and find a new story to read!!! XD XD
