Two Wrongs Don't Make It Right

The venue had closed. Everything was packed up and we were about to leave for the next venue. San francisco was a six and a half hour drive from Pomona. I was taking the second half of the drive do Chloe could get some rest before we got there and passed out for the night.

"Autumn!" I heard someone yell.

I spun around and saw a tall figure running toward me. I smile when I realize that it was Austin.

"Hey! Why aren't you on your bus? It's getting late." I say to him.

"Well that's kinda the problem. The driver asked if everyone was there and Alan said yes cause he thought I was riding with Sleeping With Sirens." He tells me rubbing the back of his neck. " well now almost everyone is gone and I'm kinda stuck here with no ride. I was wondering if I could catch a ride with you."

"Umm... Hold on one sec." I tell him and walk to the back of the van. "Hey Chloe." I say sweetly.

"What do you want?" She asks looking at me.

"Why do you think I want... Oh never mind you know my too well." She nods her head telling me to continue. "Well Austin kinda got left here and was wondering if he could catch a ride with us." I tell her giving her puppy dog eyes.

"I suppose." She says giggling. I jump on her hugging her hard.

"Thank you. Thank you. Thank you." I squealed. She knew I wanted the opportunity to he to know him better.

"Yeah yeah don't mention it." She said as we walked toward Austin. "No one wanted to claim you?"

He pouts and sticks his bottom lip out shaking his head.

"Well I guess you can come with us then." She tells him. He smiles and holds his hand out. We both stared at it confused.

"Give me the keys. You guys are letting me tag along the least I can do is drive so you can rest. We don't go on until later tomorrow so I can crash when I get there." He says wiggling his fingers around.

"I like you already." Chloe states and hops into the back of the van.

It was about 11:30 PM when we stopped to get get had. We were about halfway there an in need of some serious caffeine. Chloe had been sleeping for about and hour. I tell Austin to pump gas and I would run in and pay and get drinks.

I walked up to the register to pay but the clerk said it had already been paid for. I looked at him confused before telling him to have a good night and walking over to Austin putting my hands on my hips.

"Hey sweet pea, ready to go?" He says hanging the hose back up before looking at me. "What's wrong?"

"Why did you pay for the gas?" I ask.

"Cause I wanted to? I was trying to be nice," Austin said looking at the ground and rubbing his neck.

"I don't need you to pay for my shit Austin, I'm a big girl." I say shoving his drink at him and getting back in the van.

I get that he was just trying to be nice but that was unnecessary. I don't need him to pay for my things I wasn't a charity case. I leaned my head against the window. The last thing I wanted Austin to think was that I wanted his money. I heard the door open and him get in. He turned the car on and pulled out of the gas station.
