Looks Can Be Deceiving

Don't You Know When To Shut Up?

Pandora’s POV-
I leaned against the cool wall on the side of the building and sighed, closing my eyes. ‘Stop thinking about Austin, Pandora.’ He’s not good for you and you’re not good for him. All you’d do is mess his life up; just like you do to everyone else you know. You need to stay away from him. I opened my eyes when I felt someone lightly grab my arm. It was Austin. He towered over me like a giant, being that I was only four eleven. He was quite intimidating. I ripped my arm from his grip.
“Austin I don’t want to talk to you,” I looked down at the ground.
“You don’t even know me. We obviously got off to a bad start, and I’m sorry about that. Let’s start over, okay?” I was silent. “I’m not a bad guy…” Don’t trust him Pandora. He’s a liar just like every other guy you’ve encountered. I looked up into his light brown eyes and found myself lost in his gaze.
“Fine. My name is Pandora.”
“That’s a beautiful name,” He smiled and held out his hand. I hesitated for a second before grabbing onto it. “Austin,” he informed. My hand fell back down to my side as he moved a little closer to me, making me tens e up. “Now since you don’t drink, you would be willing to let me take you out to dinner as a way of saying sorry?”
“That’s a nice gesture, but I’m busy.” He started down at me, amused.
“I didn’t say when.”
“It doesn’t matter. I don’t have time for dinner.”
“Please? I promise you’ll have fun,” he smiled.
“Austin, I said no. No is no.”
“Well if you’re gonna decline, at least give me a good reason.” He folded his arms over his chest, waiting for me to answer.
“I have plans,” I said harshly.
“Every night of the week? I find that hard to believe.” He put his hand out and pressed it to the wall right next to my head. “So tell me again, why can’t I take you out to dinner?”
“I don’t want to talk about this anymore. I can’t go out to dinner with you and that’s how it is.”
“That’s not a reason,” he chuckled. I was getting fed up with this man.
“You wanna know why I can’t go to dinner with you?”
“That’s what I’ve been asking,” he chuckled, ignoring me obvious frustration with him.
“I don’t go out with drunken rock stars that look for one night stands and tell girls what they wanna hear. I’m not stupid, nor am I one of those cheap whores that’s gonna beg to get in your pants just to say that I slept with the famous Austin Carlile; try that on someone with a smaller brain capacity and low self-esteem. Then you may find what you’re looking for.”
“Boy, you’re really not afraid to say what’s on your mind,” he sighed, shoving his hands in the pockets of his black skinny jeans.
“You’re the one who wanted to hear it,” I reminded.
“That’s true. But you hardly know me at all. To say that I’m a Rockstar looking for a hookup would be stereotypical of you to say. Not all rock stars treat women like they’re property. Whoever gave you that impression needs to be slapped.”
“That idiot from Falling In Reverse,” I muttered.
“Radke? Yeah, he definitely needs to be slapped. He gives guys like me a bad name…” I looked down not interested in whatever else he had to say. “Even if I was just trying to hook up with you, why would I be trying so hard?” He was trying to play games with me.
“I have nothing else to say to you Mr. Carlile.”
“That’s too bad, because I’m not letting you leave until you agree to dinner with me.”
“I already told you why I can’t. That’s a good enough reason.”
“You gave Ronnie a chance and he blew it, why won’t you give me a chance.”
“I didn’t give him a chance. I met him and five minutes later he grabbed my bum.”
“You met me and I haven’t grabbed your butt.” I glared up at him as he laughed.
“Do you think this is funny?” He held his hands up.
“I just find it funny that you can’t give me one good reason as to why I can’t take you out to dinner.”
“Maybe I have a boyfriend. Ever think of that?”
“But you don’t, because if you did, you would’ve told me that in the first place when I asked you to dinner. Are there any other excuses you want to give me?”
“Maybe I don’t want to go out to dinner with you because I don’t like you. Not everyone automatically likes you because you’re famous you know.”
“Oh I know; I have a hate group on every social media website,” he stated proudly. “But I haven’t given you a reason to dislike me.” He chuckled. “Do you realize that arguing with me about taking you to dinner requires more energy than it would to actually say yes and go to dinner with me?” I dug my fingernails into the palm of my hand.
“If I say yes It’ll just be for one dinner; nothing else. After that, I don’t want to see you again.”
“We live in the same city, Pandora. We’re bound to see each other at some point.”
“Then you can just keep walking and I’ll pretend as if I don’t know who you are.” He thought about it for a second. “Still wanna go out to dinner with me now?” I asked, annoyed.
“You know, the average guy would say no, but I guess I’m not average.” I rolled my eyes.
“Yes you are. You’re conceited and self-centered like every other guy I know.”
“I’d love to prove you wrong.”
“No thanks.”
“Why? Afraid to be called out?” I looked up at the night sky.
“You really don’t know when to shut up, do you?” He shrugged.
“I guess that’s why my marriage failed, huh?” he laughed. Marriage? This man was married before?
“Just exactly how old are you?”
“Just turned twenty two,” he smiled. This was a perfect opportunity to get out of dinner plans.
“Then I guess I can’t go out to dinner with you.”
“Why not?” he was clearly confused.
“Because it would be illegal,” I crossed my arms over my chest.
“So you’re in high school?” I nodded. “Too bad; you already agreed.”
“You’re five years older than me Mr. Carlile.”
“I can count, but technically, it’s not illegal for us to go out if the night doesn’t consist of sexual activity,” he smiled. I rolled my eyes.
“Could you not use such harsh terms?”
“It’s human nature, Pandora,” he shrugged. “So what time do you want me to pick you up?”
“Tomorrow night at Hannah’s; five o’clock sharp. Not a minute later.” He smiled.
“Four fifty five it is then,” I sighed one last time before walking back into the club to find Hannah. Tomorrow night would be the last time I was to see Austin Carlile. I couldn’t afford to have him dig up my past; I was tired of running.
