Looks Can Be Deceiving

Bad First Impressions

Austin’s POV-
I looked down at my phone, scrolling through twitter as a knock came at my door. I glanced up to see Alan leaning in the doorway.
“You coming out with us Aus?”
“Eh,” I shrugged, not really feeling in the mood to go out and party. “I’m not really in the mood tonight.” He sighed and frowned, walking to the edge of my bed before he sat down across from me, cross legged.
“Austin, you can’t just stay in your house all the time and expect to meet ‘the one’.” I laughed, focusing back on my phone.
“I don’t want to find ‘the one’ Alan. I’m good on my own for now.”
“But you aren’t. I’ve heard you say thousands of times that you wished you’d had a girl around. The guys and I always invite you out and you never wanna go out. A girl will never happen if you don’t go out man.”
“Well yeah, that’s because you and the guys are always with your girls. I don’t really enjoy seeing everyone mingle with their significant other while I sit at the bar and get drunk; yet another night out of the week.”
“Just come out tonight. It’ll be fun. I’ll help you find a girl. What about that?” he rose an eyebrow.
“Alan,” I put my phone down. “I’m not looking for some random hookup. I’m looking for someone who I actually want to be with… like for a long time.”
“Austin,” he looked me right in the eye. “You need to get laid,” he said very slowly. “I’m trying to tell you in a nice way, but you’re not getting it, so I’m just going to say; you need to get some.” I sighed and stood up, adjusting my shirt.
“I don’t want to argue about this.” He too stood up, putting his hand on my chest to stop me from leaving the room.
“We’re not arguing. I just want you to be happy.”
“I am happy, Alan. Now I’m done talking about this.” I gently pushed him aside and walked out into the hallway. He followed me down the stairs, nagging me about finding a girl. As I came into the living room the guys smiled at me from my couches.
“So are you coming out with us?” Tino asked, hoping for a yes. I rolled my eyes and opened the fridge.
“No, he’s being dumb,” Alan muttered, crossing his arms.
“Come on bro, we’ll have fun!” Phil got up. “We’re not even taking the girls tonight. It’ll be just the four of us.”
“Guys, I just don’t want to. It doesn’t really have anything to do with girls. We just got off of tour and I don’t wanna go out and party. I wanna stay here and chill.” I leaned against the counter and tipped back a Corona.
“I’m gonna call Oli. He’ll get you to go out,” Alan smirked, pulling out his phone.
“Fine. Go ahead.” I shrugged as he dialed Oli’s number and smiled at me thinking he’d win.

Hannah’s POV-
Pandora and I sat in Oliver and I’s living room, watching American Horror Story. She sat on the edge of her seat, biting on her bottom lip. Oliver’s phone vibrated in my back pocket as I pulled it out to see it was Alan calling.
“Hello?”
“Oli?” I rolled my eyes.
“It’s Hannah, Alan. What do you need?”
“Is Oli around, I gotta talk to him.”
“Um, he’s in an interview. Can I take a message?” I smiled. He sighed.
“Well can you get Austin to come out with us tonight? He’s being a dummy and he won’t go.”
“Tell that bum that he better meet us out there tonight or I will dump a bucket of cold water on him while he’s sleeping next time Of Mice and Bring Me tour together.”
“Here, you talk to him.” I waited a second before hearing Austin’s groggy voice on the other end.
“Hey Hannah.”
“Austin you’re going out tonight whether you like it or not.”
“Thanks for the invite, but I’m not really up for it.”
“No, this isn’t an option. You’re going. It has been decided. Now go upstairs and dress your ass in something fancy before I come over there and do it for you!” I hung up and looked over at Pandora whose full attention was on the TV screen. “Do you wanna come out with Oli and I tonight?” I smiled.
“Nah…” she sat back and picked at her finger nail. “I better get going soon. I have school tomorrow anyways.”
“Come on love! It’ll be so fun! And then you can meet Austin. He’s a great dude, you’d love him.”
“I’m alright Hannah, really. I’d feel more comfortable if I just went home. Bars really aren’t my thing.” I frowned, giving her puppy dog eyes.
“Please? You never come out with us.”
“Because I hate drunken people; it’s just not my scene.”
“You love Warped Tour,” I pointed out.
“Not everyone there is drunk though. And there’s good music,” she smiled.
“Just tonight, I promise you’ll have fun. If you don’t have fun, I promise you never ever have to come out with us again.” She looked down, contemplating in her head.
“Hannah, you know I hate meeting new people.” She looked over at me with the shy expression she always had on her face.
“But these guys are really nice.”
“Yeah that’s what you said about the guys from Falling In Reverse and they were total douche canoes.”
“Okay, well that’s different; Ronnie’s just Ronnie. There’s no changing him.”
“He’s a pig,” she muttered, pulling her black waist high shorts down so they weren’t so revealing. Pandora hated feeling too exposed.
“That he is. Austin, on the other hand is not. He’s got a real big heart.”
“Fine, I’ll go with you and Oli. If a drunken guy touches my bum again, I’m leaving. Got it?” I nodded, grabbing her hand to pull her up. The front door opened as Oli stumbled in, smiling like an idiot.
“Hello beautiful,” he leaned down to kiss me then smiled at Pandora. “Hello beautiful’s shy friend.”
“Hi Oliver,” she gave a small wave.
“Are you coming out with us tonight?” She glared up at me as Oliver looked down at her small frame.
“Hannah’s making me. She wants me to meet Austin.”
“Oh, you’ll love him. He may look intimidating, but he’s got a huge heart.” I looked between the two as Oli held up his keys.
“Are you ready to go Pandora?” I asked. She nodded, adjusting her shirt as we walked out to Oli’s BMW. Tonight was going to be a good night.

Pandora’s POV-
We waited in line for about ten minutes outside of the club as the bouncer checked ID’s. I pulled my knit gray sweater over my shoulders when the wind picked up a little. Oli kept his arm around Hannah’s waist as a few guys whispered about her. I rolled my eyes. Why were men so disgusting? It was like they were proud of it. I ran my hand through my hair as Hannah talked to the bouncer about getting me in. I guess Oli knew the guy so he let me in, no questions asked. As soon as I stepped in, the music filled my ears, shaking the ground beneath me. The smell of alcohol swirled around the room, getting to my stomach. We made our way up to the bar as I leaned against the counter waiting for the bartender. He rushed up to us, looking to Hannah as she ordered a martini. Then he looked to me and smiled.
“And for you?”
“Just a water please.” He nodded, disappearing as Hannah let me know that she was going to find the bathroom. I tapped my black finger nails against the bar; starting to get uncomfortable as I heard two men having an argument close by. This was the exact reason why I didn’t come to clubs. Too many bad memories.
Austin’s POV-
Alan and the guys were busy dancing when I realized that my glass was empty.
“Alan!” He looked to me, still dancing. I pointed to my glass and then to the front of the club. He nodded as I wondered through the crowd of dancing drunken people. Some lady stepped on my foot and pushed me up to the bar, causing me to bump into someone. The lady looked up to me with glazed eyes.
“Sorry,” she slurred, going back to the man she was dancing with. I turned around to see the young woman I had bumped into glaring up at me. She folded her arms over her small frame as I looked down at her. She couldn’t have been over five feet tall. Her long black hair framed her face, allowing me to take in her incredible cheekbones. I felt a warm flutter in my heart. I snapped out of it as I realized she was yelling at me.
“Watch where you’re going!” she growled a light English accent apparent in her voice. She turned back to the bar as I laid my hand on her shoulder, making her jump.
“I’m sorry!” I leaned down so she could hear me. “Someone bumped into me.” She rolled her eyes, ignoring my existence. “Can I buy you a drink as an apology?” I asked, smiling.
“I don’t drink,” she muttered, picking at her sweater.
“So what are you drinking then?” She looked back up to me.
“Don’t you have somewhere else to be?” I put my hand over my heart, pretending to be offended.
“Ouch! That’s harsh!”
“I don’t talk to drunken strangers.”
“I’m not drunk; nor do I intend on getting drunk. This is my first one,” I held up my empty glass. Someone came from behind me and stood next to the young woman. I smiled, recognizing that it was none other than Oli’s girlfriend.
“Would you get this man away from me? He seems to have nothing else better to do.” Hannah laughed, looking between the two of us.
“I see you’ve met Austin.” The woman looked to me with skeptical eyes.
“So you’re Austin,” she turned to grab the glass that the bar tender handed over. I looked at Hannah.
“You’ve been talking about me?” I rose an eyebrow.
“All good things, love,” she giggled.
“Hannah, I’m going to go get some air outside.” Before Hannah had the chance to answer she pushed past me and disappeared. I frowned.
“What did you do to her?” Hannah hit my chest lightly.
“Nothing! I was on my way up here to get another drink and some lady pushed me into her. I apologized and offered to buy her a drink.”
“She doesn’t drink.”
“So I heard,” I sighed, running my hand through my hair. “Is she alright? I didn’t mean to upset her.”
“She’ll be alright. She’s just a little stubborn. She doesn’t really wanna be here either.” I chuckled.
“Then why is she here?”
“I convinced her it’d be fun, and I wanted her to meet you!” she smiled.
“Well, that happened already and I don’t think she’s very fond of me,” I frowned, looking back the spot she disappeared in. “Maybe I should go out and talk to her.” Hannah shrugged.
“Do what you want, but you may get slapped in the face.”
“I’m not that bad of a guy, Hannah.”
“Well she already has a bad taste in her mouth. Once she doesn’t like you, it’s hard to get her to change her mind.”
“Oh, I’ll change her mind,” I smiled, setting down my drink on the counter. “I’ll be right back.”
“Okay! Don’t get slapped!” I laughed as I walked away. Slapped? That tiny woman was not capable of hurting a fly.
