Chapter 26

Aaron:
I heard the bunk curtain open as someone gently knocked on the wall. I groaned. "What?" I was almost asleep for the first time in two and a half weeks; I was not in the mood to chat.

"I have a favor to ask," a soft voice chuckled.

I opened my eyes to find Silver crouched next to my head. "Mm, yeah, what's up?" I yawned, pushing myself up onto my elbows.

"I need a bunk to stay in, so do me a favor and scoot over." She smiled, but it didn't quite reach her eyes.

I returned the sad smile as I shuffled closer to the wall. Silver climbed in and buried her face in my chest. "I'm sorry, angel. I know it was a mutual thing, but breaking up is never easy."

"Or painless," she muttered. "I feel like shit for having to end me and Alan, but at the same time I couldn't stay with him anymore." She sighed. "Life is too complicated."

I laughed and pressed a kiss to the top of her head. "Tell me about it."

We laid in silence for a while. I thought Silver had fallen asleep, but she spoke up. "Don't you have something to ask me, Pauley?"

I looked down to meet her expectant gaze. I smirked. "Nope."

She looked a little hurt, but just laid her head back down without another word. I pressed another kiss to her hair and whispered, "Nothing really needs to be said, angel. I'm already yours."

She lifted her head to kiss me. "Good."

We fell back into a comfortable silence until, finally, I fell into a a deep, long awaited sleep.

Silver:
I woke up facing the wall of the bunk. I blinked a few times, mildly disoriented. I felt an arm around my waist and repressed a sigh. Alan. It was just a dream. I couldn't help the next sigh that escaped my lips. His arm tightened around my waist as he groaned in his sleep. I laced my fingers through his. I didn't want to be in the relationship, but I felt an obligation to give it the absolute best shot I could. I felt his lips press against my neck.

"Good morning, angel."

No. Fucking. Way.

I whipped around to come nose-to-nose with, not the man I expected, but the man I'd wanted. Holy shit. Not a dream.

Aaron chuckled. "You ok? You look like you've seen a ghost."

I blinked a couple times before I answered, just making sure every time I opened my eyes it was in fact Aaron who I was laying with. "I'm in your bunk?"

He smirked. "You asked to be here." He yawned and pulled me closer to his chest. "It's early, go back to sleep."

"But, but Alan?"

His eyes were already closed, but he smiled. Smug bastard. "You two mutually ended it yesterday, and apparently we got his blessing. Now come here and cuddle, or find another bunk, 'cause 'm tired."

I chuckled in spite of the million questions still swirling in my head. "You're a nasty little fucker in the morning, you know that?"

"Mm, you l-" he yawned, "love it." He nuzzled my hair. "Breathe, angel. Just sleep."

I shoved all of my worries to the back of my mind. After all, I was waking up in Aaron's arms; that's all I've wanted. And this time, it's everything I thought it would be. Being with Aaron wasn't a constant string of worries. Actually, being with him made my anxiety more bearable. Aaron was like therapy; better actually, therapy had never really worked for me. I snuggled in close to his chest. Everything will be okay.

And for once, I actually believed it.
