Ghost in the Walls

Chapter 4

I didn't go to school today, there really was no point, he hasn't shown up for three weeks. Instead I just hung around my house like I used to. About lunch time I decided to go in my room again and just take some time to remember my life. It probably wasn't a healthy thing to do but I'm already dead, not much else could go wrong. I looked at all my photos. There were a few with me and my baseball team and some of me playing. My favorite were of me Steph and Sky. I miss them so much. They were two of my best friends. My other one was alan. He was a crazy ginger but he moved the year before I died, I don't think he knows yet.

I picked up one picture where me and Alan were tigers for Halloween. The girls at the school thought we looked so cute, I ended up with one for about two days then broke it off. She was way to clingy. I looked over in the corner and saw my baseball bag. It still had sunflower seeds and a Gatorade in it. I was supposed to play a game that morning but I never got to, it was against the soaring eagles. If we one we would go to the play offs, and if we beat them there we would have been number one in the state.

I think that's what I missed the most. Baseball. I sighed and left my room, I loved being in there because it brought back good memories I didn't want to forget but it can get suffocatingly depressing. It was pretty dark out now so I left to go patrol the town like usual. I was passing a small deli when I saw Oli come out. His eyes looked really sad and he had tear steaks on his face bellow his eyes that were dark probably form not sleeping. He looked like a drug addict. He didn't see me and kept walking, the street was empty so I decided to talk to him, it was important.

"Oli!" I yelled so he could hear me. He looked back and saw me before turning back around and walking faster.

"Seriously Oli, this is important!"

"Seriously Austin, leave me alone." He said mocking what I said. I ran and caught up to him.

"But this is really important, I know I promised but-"

"Exactly, you promised. I held up my end now you hold up yours. Why are you here anyways?"

"I tried to find you at school but you haven't been there, where were you? And I have been walking around here at night for about three weeks now."

"I've been home."

"What happened? You look like hell."

"My mom died if you must know." That would explain why he hasn't been in school.

"Oh...how?" He sighed and just kept walking. I didn't think he was going to tell me but then he said.

"Someone killed her and threw her body in the ocean."

"If you don't mind, what was she wearing?" I asked nervously. If they were the same people, then I knew who killed her. Kinda. He looked at me weird before answering.

" a tan trench coat, dress pants, and black heels." Fuck.

"Dark, dirty blonde hair and brown eyes?" I asked. Please don't be her. He looked at me weirdly again.

"Yea... How did you know?"

"Because I saw her that night. I saw her get killed and that's why I needed to talk to you."

"You saw the killer? What did he look like?"

"I didn't see him to well, it was dark but I heard his voice and saw his eyes. Oli, the guy that killed your mom killed me."
A hundred emotions scrolled across Oli's face but the biggest one was fear, regret, and anger. A lot of anger.

"I have to go, I'll talk to you tomorrow after school." He said turning around and walking away to fast for me to try and talk again. I sighed and continued my walk around. I had a horrible feeling. I hoped Oli made it home alright. It was pretty late out, probably one or two in the morning. I was walking past a bar when a women stepped out, obviously wasted. She looked in her early thirties late twenties, dark brown hair and deep green eyes. She was wearing a small zip up jacket and jeans despite the cold chill that was out tonight. She stumbled down the street, swaying from side to side as if she were on a boat.

As a navy blue car came around the cornner, I knew why I had a bad feeling.

"Hey! Please, please hear me. Run! Run!" I screamed hoping by some miracle that she could hear me as Oli does but it was no use. She kept on walking drunkenly towards the car. Towards her death and she didn't even know what was going to happen. I ran to her to somehow try and warn her but I knew there was nothing I could do but pray that she would be coherent enough to try and run, to scream. As I got up to her I saw the car was a few feet In front of us.

I put my arms through her so that maybe she would get cold and go back to the bar but it didn't work. She was so drunk she didn't feel anything.

"Hey miss, need a ride?" The gravely voice asked. It seemed so trusting and inviting that you just want to do whatever the voice asked.

"Umm.. I zon't reary know if live where?" She was so drunk she couldn't speak properly or even create a proper sentence, I knew she would go willingly and withought a fight.

"Don't worry sweety, I know exactly where you live. Hope in and all give you a ride ok?" He said.

"You do? Oh.. Goo, goo. You preeetty." He chuckled a deep laugh before replying.

"Thank you mam, come on. We gotta hurry"

"Ok, ok. Iiii'm comin iiiiin!" She sang while going into the car which caused the man to chuckle again before quickly driving off leaving me standing there, watching the car drive away just like last time.
