Come Waste Away With Me

You Will Never See Them Again

I raced back to Mason’s house, I would never call it my home. My sunglasses were perched on my nose to hide the nasty bruise. Alex didn’t see thank god but I convinced him to continue the show and not tell anyone about my brother till after. I unlocked the door in less than a few seconds usually I would take as long as possible but not this time. Mason was in the same position when I left. He glanced up from the TV, his mouth fell open slightly. “I thought you were going to be awhile.”
“Plans changed.” I frowned as he smirked.
“Did they realize how horrible at photography? About time.” He chuckled.
“Actually no.” I crossed my arms feeling my depression fall harder onto my shoulders.
“So you missed me?” This cocky bastard.
“My brother is in the hospital.” I blurted out rather loudly.
“Don’t raise your voice at me bitch! And good I’m glad he is there, he deserves it.” He shook his head. “Did he break something?”
Anger boiled inside me. “He collapsed and hasn’t woken up.”
He laughed, he actually laughed. “Well that’s amusing.”
“I am going to see him.” I turned away from him and walked into my room. I ripped off my sunglasses and touched up my makeup. I grabbed a tote bag and through in my makeup bag, extra pairs of clothes, my notebook, and my memory card from inside my sock drawer. If I find the nerve to show them I will. I walked towards the door but I was pulled backwards.
“If you think I’m going to allow you to go you are more stupid than I thought you were.” He shook his head shaking slightly.
“I have to go.” I begged him. “Please let me go, he might not survive and it will be the last time I see him.”
“We had a deal, you never see them again or there will be consequences.” His glare wasn’t going to make me back down.
“When he wakes up I will come right back. I give you my word. I will not say anything about you or what has happened, I promise. Just please let me go.” I felt like a child that had no rights in the world.
“If you go out that door, I promise you that you will never see them again no matter what happens to them or you.” He said through clenched teeth.
“Fine.” I turned on my heel and proceeded out the door. Nothing will stop me from seeing my brother in the hospital. I waved down a cab; I remembered money this time. “The hospital, please.”
The driver nodded knowing which one to go to. Will I see all of the guys? Most likely, they would be there. They would never abandon him. I wonder how they were handling this. I knew they would be devastated. Wait, none of them even tried to contact me. Are you kidding me? My brother is in the freaking hospital and they didn’t think to call. I check my phone; no calls. I was no longer feeling sorry for them, I was angry. I placed my sunglasses over my eyes before stepping out of the cab. I gave him the money and he sped away.
I walked through the hospital doors suddenly feeling a wave of devastation wash over me. My brother is in a coma. What if he doesn’t wake up? I walked up to the lady behind the counter. “How may I help you?” She said happily.
“I got a call that my brother Austin Carlile was brought in.” My voice cracked.
“I need to see identification, only certain people are allowed to see him.” I got my license out of my wallet. She checked it about five times. “Okay, he is on the fifth floor room 567.”
“Thank you!” I grabbed the slip from her and found my way too the elevators. I hit the button for floor five and leaned on wall closing my eyes and took deep breaths. I could not have a panic attack not here. It felt like hours for the elevator doors to open. The finally opened and I looked at the signs for which way room 567 was. I turned to the left and found the counter that nurses sat at. I needed them to tell me it was okay to see him. “Hi I’m here to see Austin Carlile.”
“Hold on miss,” She typed his name into the system. “I’m sorry but you cannot go in his room yet. The doctors are running tests.”
“I don’t care that’s my brother! What is wrong?” I raised my voice suddenly feeling sick.
“You have to wait in the waiting room for the doctor.” She replied calmly.
“He is my brother! Tell me what’s happening!” I was so scared I needed to see him now.
“Ariana?” I looked behind me and saw Aaron holding a cup of coffee.
“Why the hell didn’t anyone call me?” I walked up to him.
“Oh um,” He didn’t finish.
“I think I have the right to fucking know that my brother is in the hospital.” I swore, I actually used the f word.
“Miss you need to calm down or you will have to leave.” A nurse walked over.
“I am not leaving.” I glared.
“I will bring her to the waiting room.” Aaron gave me a sad look. I looked to the ground and followed him to the waiting area. When we arrived all of the guys looked up with wide eyes. But I held my head up high and walked over to the chair that was farthest away from them. I looked out the window and prayed he would be okay. Don’t cry. Don’t cry. Don’t cry. I kept repeating the words in my mind. I took out my notebook and began scribbling words onto the blank pages.
Strange hands taking my wrist again
Somehow I’m still alone
Voices shaking my steps again
I follow
I’m a little bit on the edge
Holed up and out of reach
I can’t hear much of what you said
Come for me
Don’t let me tumble away
Into the throws of the shadowy bay
I clung to the rock
And it’s crumbling off
Toss me a heavy rope
It’s a slippery slope
Come bail me out of this God forsaken precipice
When I glanced at my phone it was now after six and still no news. I closed my notebook with a quiet sigh. How long do these tests take? I glanced up to see them all on their phones. I guess this was the time to ask them why they didn’t call me. I cleared my throat; they all looked at me. “Why didn’t you call?”
“Well, we didn’t think you would answer.” Phil frowned.
“There’s a thing called voicemail!” I threw my arms up.
“We should have called.” Tino sighed.
“I told the hospital to call you.” His voice made my gaze to look directly at him. “I knew you would answer that.”
“You told them to call?” Aaron asked.
“Well at least someone is respectful here. Thank you Alan.” I sat back down and we all went silent again. I wonder if they would’ve called if he had died. Alan would have I know that for sure. My breath caught in my throat; what if he does die? I will have no one and I will be stuck with Mason. I’ll have my dad but he’s always working and is never home. I couldn’t breathe, the air would not come to my lungs. Think of something happy. Anything happy. Alan knelt in front of me with a concerned look.
“Hey, look at me.” My eyes flickered to his. “Breath in, and out.”
I took a shaky breath, and another till my breathing was almost back to normal. “I can’t lose him.” I whispered.
“You won’t.” He promised but what if that promise broke.
“This is not how I pictured coming to see you guys.” I laughed that lacked amusement.
“Yea, I didn’t either. I’m glad you are here.” He smiled.
“Don’t try to convince me to stay.” I watched his smile fall from his lips.
“We need to talk about you know what.” He mumbled.
“I know but not know, I’m not in my right mind.” I pulled my gaze from his and glanced at my bag. I could show him the evidence right now. That would be too much for him to handle though.
“Why are you wearing so much makeup?” He questioned with narrow eyes.
“I am trying a new style.” I lied.
“Less makeup is better but you are still beautiful.” His face turned slightly red. “Have you kept your promise?”
I lifted my sleeves and a grin stretched across his lips. “I did promise, I don’t break promises easily.”
“I am proud of you.” His grin stayed on his face. “This is beginning to sound like twenty questions but what were you writing?”
“My thoughts.” I replied.
“I won’t pry.” He concluded after thinking for a second. “More questions! What have you been occupying your time with?”
“I’ve taken up photography, I have a job and everything.” I smiled thinking about how relaxing it was to look through a camera lens. “How was Warped?”
“It was good not as good as it could have been if you were there.”
“Alan.” I sighed.
“Okay, I’m sorry.” He chuckled.
“You are-” I was cut off.
“Ariana Carlile?” A man in a white coat walked into the room.
“That’s me.” I stood up walking over to him.
“We finished the tests on your brother, everything seems intact. We have to keep an eye on his heart though because it is not acting normal as it should be. He has not yet woken up but you can see him.” I began to walk away but the doctor began to talk again. “Do you have Marfan Syndrome as well?”
I nodded. “I do.”
“I strongly suggest you take some tests to make sure you don’t also go into cardiac arrest.” He said with no emotion in his voice.
“My brother went into cardiac arrest?” I shrieked.
“Ari,” Alan touched my arm and I backed away from him.
“I am going to see him.” I picked up my bag and walked as fast as I could into his room. MY brother almost died and the doctor acted like he could hardly care. A tear silently escaped my eye as I reached his bedside. “Aussie, I’m here.” I took hold of his hand and actually prayed that he would be okay, I haven’t done that in a long time. He needs to wake up.
