Another Messy Ending

Alice tricked me. She pulled one of the biggest asshole moves she could have ever pulled. Don’t get me wrong, it was sort of funny, but at the time I wanted to hit her in the face. After I got back home from my night, and day, with Ben, I called her and told her about everything that happened. She was totally fine with everything. She did remind me that she didn’t agree with my choices, but after that she promptly asked me about the size of his penis.

It had been a few days since then and I’d “visited” Ben a couple times since then. Of course I told Alice about every time because I had to tell someone so I wouldn’t explode. It’s not that I wanted it to be a secret necessarily, I just didn’t want the world to know. Apparently Alice wanted to send me a message. She invited me over to her apartment which isn’t abnormal, but I thought that it was going to be just me and her. I was mistaken. When I knocked on the door, Kieran answered with a bottle of vodka in one hand and a two liter of sprite in the other.

“Hey Kenz!” He dragged me into the living room with his arm around my shoulder and kicked the door shut. “What do you want to drink? I brought vodka!” He said in a sing song voice, swirling the bottle around in my face.

I saw that Alice also invited Jason and Andy to this little get together. “Let’s do shots.“

“Do you want to do body shots?” He said raising his shirt up.

I laughed, “Not this time, Kieran.”

He started pouring our shots and pouted, “Aww, you don’t want to lick vodka out of my belly button?”

“No, I just want to lick your belly button,” I grabbed for his shirt and he jumped back.

“Fuck no, that’s weird. Stop,” He smiled and handed me two shots. “Ready?” I nodded. “Go!”

Together we chanted:

Up to it, down to it!
Fuck those who don't do it!
We do it cause we're used to it!
So drink, mother fucker! Drink!

Then we both downed our shots with grins on our faces.

“Kenz!” Andy yelled from the couch. He raised his cup to me with a smile.

“Hey Kenzie,” Jason followed, stretching every syllable as per usual. He got up from his seat to give me a hug. I took a seat on the arm of the couch they all sat at. Alice was in her big floral armchair. “How ya been, girl?”

“Yeah, Ken. ‘How ya been?’” Alice was being playful, but I could tell she was trying to stir up trouble.

I flipped my hair over to one side and started twisting the ends, “I’ve been alright I guess. How have you guys been?” I was pushing the attention off of me, so Alice wouldn’t have the opportunity to pull whatever it is she was trying to pull.

“This sick club that I played is thinking about hiring me to be their permanent DJ.” Kieran said with a delighted smile. “You know, except on feature nights. They loved my beats and my energy and shit and they said it was the best they’ve heard out of everyone they’ve had through there lately.”

I was honestly so happy for Kieran. He has a pretty huge fan base, but he never had a steady place to do live shows. Mostly, he would just book huge club shows and make his money off of those and the people who bought his music. It’s so cool that he has a shot at finally having a steady paycheck. As far as I know he’s never had that kind of stability.

“That’s so awesome!” I leaned over to put my hand on his shoulder.

“Yeah, man, I bet you’ll get tons of ass,” Andy laughed. “You’ve gotta throw some my way!”

They fist bumped, “That’s the goal man!” Kieran said nodding.

Alice sighed dramatically, “I wish I could get some ass.” Jason smirked at her and she returned the smirk. Then suddenly she said. “Kenzie have… have you had any good sex lately?” She asked me as if she were asking if I’d seen any good movies recently. I should have seen it coming to be honest. I just death glared her with a smile on my face.

“Oh, is that what this is?” Jason piped up. “Is Zane back? Is that why the two of you are acting all strange like that?”

“Hmm, is Zane back, Kenz?” If Alice repeated a question directed toward me one more time, I was gonna snatch her out of that flowery seat.

“No,” I said calmly.

All of a sudden she snapped her fingers as if she just thought of something, “Ah, that’s right! It was Ben!”

Well played, bitch. I rolled my eyes. I really don’t care if they know anymore. I’m not going to cry over it. I made this decision so I had to deal with the consequences. It’s not like my friends knowing that I’m cheating on Zane is the worst thing that could have happened.

The guys looked at me in confusion, “Yup, that’s the one.”

“Kenz, what’s going on?” Kieran asked.

Alice laughed, knowing she had won. “I think you should tell them about your gripping and deeply complex romance story.”

I started blushing so I hid my face behind my hand as I said it. “I had sex with Ben Bruce.”

“She means that she’s been having sex with him frequently.” Alice corrected.

Andy immediately looked grossed out, “Consensually?”

“Seriously, Andy?” I said crossing my arms.

“So… no?”

“Shut up, you asshole,” I laughed despite myself.

“I have no idea who y’all are talking about, so you’re going to have to help me out.” Jason chimed in.

“Yeah, I’m pretty lost,” Kieran agreed. He knows every band under the sun, but he really doesn’t pay attention to the names of the members.

I almost answered, but Alice decided to do it for me, “He’s the guy that punched Kieran in the face at your bar the other night.”

“You’ve gotta be more specific,” Jason joked, but Kieran looked upset. He didn’t look angry, just sad. However, it was only for a moment. His face went back to normal when he saw me look at him. “I’m just kidding. But really, Kenz? Why would you want to have sex with that guy?”

“I like him and he’s charming,” I replied even though I was sure nobody really cared about the answer.

Kieran scoffed, “Oh, yeah, he was a real sweetheart.”

“Kieran, you started that fight. You start every fight.” Alice said, somewhat defending Ben.

“Yeah, I know, but doesn’t make it okay for Kenzie to fuck the guy! And I wouldn’t have started the fight if they actually made good music.”

“True and true,” Andy added. He looked sheepishly in the other direction as he took a sip of his drink.

I rolled my eyes, “Well, if it makes you feel any better, the first time I had sex with him was before you two fought.”

“Surprisingly, that doesn’t make me feel better at all.” Kieran retorted sarcastically.

“Alice, why did you do this?” I whined.

She stood up and put her drink on her coffee table. “Well firstly, I thought maybe I could shame you out of this situation. But it gets hard to listen to every installment to your series of sin. I’m drowning in all of your gossip, Kenzie. So, I’ve extended your network of people to talk about your sticky situation with.” Then she addressed the guys. “When I say ‘sticky’, I mean it literally and figuratively.” They all laughed as I hid behind my hands again. “Also, these guys are your friends too. I’m sure they appreciate knowing where the fuck you’ve been lately.”

“Yeah, I was wondering why you haven’t been hanging out after work lately.” Andy said.

Kieran spoke up too, “We haven’t gone to McDonalds’ for chicken nuggets in like three days, Kenz!” He started laughing. “I’m fuckin pissed to be completely honest! I seriously think I’m going through withdrawal.”

“And I’ve been missing you coming around the bar. It’s nice when all of you guys stop by.” Jason said with his usual, sweet grin. “Well except you, Kieran.”

“He wants my dick so badly,” Kieran laughed, talking to no one in particular. “For real thought Kenz, can you just explain to me what’s going on?” he continued, pushing a lock of his long hair behind his ear. “I could maybe understand it if you only had sex with him once, but you’re still fucking this guy. Why? And don’t bullshit me because you’re no good at it.”

I looked at the ceiling for a while trying to think of a legitimate answer, but I couldn’t. “I just… I wanted to fuck someone. Okay?”

“Oh hell, Kenzie, you could have asked me for that!” Jason said smirking.

“Or me!” Kieran said raising his hand.

“Or me!” Andy agreed.

Just to be a smart ass, Alice jumped in too, “Me too!”

Kieran chimed in, “If you choose Alice, can I watch?”

“Or maybe you could make a sex tape. That’d be hot.” Jason suggested.

Andy leaned over and whispered to Jason, “If you get the tape, send me a copy.”

“Shut up, you guys!” I laughed. “Listen, I’m sorry I didn’t tell you before, but I feel like its obvious why I wouldn’t want to broadcast this to the world. I’m not particularly proud of what I’m doing, but I’m happy. I can’t really explain it. Kieran, I promise we can go out for nuggets tomorrow. Andy, we’ll hang out after work the next time we have the same shift. And Jason, I promise to stop by the bar more often. You guys are my best friends and I understand if you hate me right now, but I really hope you don’t. I love you all and I don’t want to lose my best friends.”

Kieran smiled, “I don’t think any of us are going anywhere, Kenz.” He got up and gave me a hug which ended up turning into a group hug which turned into more of a dog pile.

“Ew, wait. You haven’t caught anything, have you?” Andy asked jokingly.

I hit him repeatedly, as hard as I could while being trapped underneath everyone, “No, you fucking asshole!”

“Hey, I was asking for your safety,” He said laughing uncontrollably and gripping the spot on his arm where I hit him.

Of course I wasn’t going to tell them that I didn’t know, but the truth is that I honestly didn’t fucking know. We hadn’t been using protection after all. This was also the moment I realized that I didn’t even know if Ben was sleeping with other girls besides me. It took everything in my being to not start freaking out and having a mental breakdown, but I held myself together and decided that I would confront Ben about it in person, the next day.
