What Daddy Doesn't Know

Alan's P.O.V

I felt like I was running around with my head cut off. Cali was getting dressed while I was packing her lunch for school and some snacks for the hospital when she got out. Katie gets her surgery in the morning tomorrow.

I couldn't bear the thought of losing the love of my life. Knowing that she was hurting killed me inside and I needed to get some reassurance. I left what I was doing on the counter and walked to our balcony.

"Mrs. Carlile? Umm I am Alan, Your sons best friends and his daughters boyfriend. I know that sounds weird but its a long story. I just wanted to ask you if maybe you could make sure Katie stays with us while she is in surgery tomorrow?" I let a small tear fall off my face as I watched it soak into my pants.

I looked up to see Austin holding a bag. He set it down and sat next to me on a chair.

"Alan, My mom knows what she is doing, She kept me safe when I had this done three years ago and she is going to keep Katie safe" I nodded.

"I know but its hard not to be scared. I mean how are you not freaking out?" I asked

"Thats where your wrong Alan, I did freak out. The night that we found out that Katie was having this problem. I cried myself to sleep that night. Alan she is my daughter, the only reason I don't break down and cry in front of her is because I need to stay strong for her. I need to make sure that she isn't scared. I wan't you to try and be strong for her, I know it is going to be hard but its the only way this will go by faster" I tried to smiled a bit.

"I'll try but I don't know man" He chuckled

"You Ashby's sure are stubborn" I laughed at his small joke as Cali came running out.

"CARLY!" Her face lit up as she ran into Austin's arms.

"Hey Cali bear, you ready to go to school?" Austin asked

"But...but I thought we were going to see mommy?" Her face fell

"No honey that is after school member?" I asked and she nodded

"Yeah, I just wanna see her. I miss her a lot daddy"

Austin and I arrived at the hospital shortly after we dropped Cali off at school.

"Alan Ashby?" A doctor came up and asked. I nodded

"Yes, thats me"

"I have to inform you that your girlfriend had a complication and she is now in emergency surgery to fix this problem" I thanked him as he walked away. I then turned to Austin.

"Austin something happened what if she isn't okay?" He shook his head and pulled me into a hug as I cried.

"No, Alan she is going to be just fine I promise" I felt a tear fall on the top of my head. It sounded like he was trying to convince himself more than he was trying to convince me.

~ 3 HOURS LATER

"Katie, How do you feel?" I asked from her bedside.

"Sore, and I am thirsty" I nodded and Austin left to go get her some water.

"I thought I was going to lose you" I stated

"I am not going anywhere not for a long time. Thats a promise" I kissed her and I finally felt at ease about the whole thing.
