The List
The Read Through
I woke up late the next morning. I don’t know if I was because I was in a strange new place or because I was starting to realise the enormity of what I had taken on.
But I opened my curtain and peered through into the front lounge. The boys and their tour manager were sitting and talking. I decided to risk changing in the bathroom. The night clothes I were wearing weren’t skimpy. But consisted of shorts and flannel vests. I pulled out today’s clothes and rushed over to the bathroom. I think they saw me because I heard someone laugh. I started to run water and splashed my face, before I changed. I had set a bag of my things on the side and got them out.
There were a few freckles on my nose and I tried to cover them with foundation. My skin has always been very tan. It comes from my mothers side – the Spanish blood. My eyes were blue, something I’ve always been very pleased with. I did my make-up and put my hair up. I walked out and through to where everyone was sitting. I sat in between Vic and Tony and they smiled at me.
“How did you sleep?” Tony asked.
“Great, and I haven’t gotten very much sleep since Ryan got bad,”
“I don’t know if I said, but I’m sorry about your brother,” Mike told me.
“You did, and thank you,” I smiled lightly.
“About that, we were wondering if we could see the list? Matty said there are a lot of things to do in a small space of time,” Vic said.
“Sure,” I replied. I got up and went to my bag. I brought the envelope back with me and sat back down.
“All of these are written by Ryan?” Vic asked and I nodded.
“How many again?” Jaime asked.
“Twenty nine,” I replied and saw them exchange a look.
“Shit,” Mike breathed.
“Are we just going to go down the list?” Vic asked.
“Yeah, I think so,”
“Can I look?” Tony asked.
“Here,” I said and passed the list to him. He looked down and laughed. Vic peered over his shoulder and grinned.
“I like your brother already,” Vic exclaimed.
