The List

#1 Crowd Surf

I let out a breath. I was backstage at one of the shows. I peered out at the waiting crowd and gulped. I heard someone laugh behind me and I spun around. The boys were ready to go on stage and were watching me. “What?” I smiled.
“Are you ready?” Vic asked.
“Okay, what do I do again?” I asked desperately.
“You wait till we’re playing Bulls in the Bronx. Wait for the Spanish hit,” Jaime explained.
“Then what?”
“You run our on stage and leap for your fucking life. Hope you get to the crowd and don’t break your spine,” Mike said and they all glared.
“Could that actually happen?” I questioned anxiously.
“No, he’s being a dick,” Tony told me.
“We cleared it up with security. You surf all the way to the back then they’ll pull you out and bring you backstage again,” Vic said.
“Any tips?” I asked and bit down on my lip.
“Make sure your shoes are tied tight and don’t keep your phone in your pocket,” Jaime offered. I nodded and tucked my phone in my bra.
“Or there. We know female fronts that have had their bras unhooked,” Mike added.
“Okay,” I rolled my eyes and left it with their phones.
“Don’t kick people in the face. It pisses them off,” Tony explained.
“Right,” I nodded.
“You’ll be fine,” Vic promised. I nodded again and watched them run out on stage. I heard them start to play and went to side stage. There was a chair nearby and I sat down, waiting for my cue. They started to play Bulls in the Bronx and I stiffened. This was it. I heard the Spanish hit and jumped up. I ran out on stage and briefly saw them grin at me. I jumped from the stage backwards and let out a sigh of relief when I felt hands under me. People were jumping and I felt them slowly pass me back. I laughed and looked on stage. They were looking at me. I know why Ryan wanted to do this. The feeling you get from being passed back, hundreds of people’s hands pushing you back is immeasurable. You can’t describe it and there’s nothing like it. It’s like magic. I’m just sad that Ryan never got to experience it for himself. I was pulled onto my feet by security. They steadied me and I grinned. “This way,” he urged and I was led around the crowd. He took me back stage and left me. I hurried over to my bag and pulled out Ryan’s list. I grabbed a pen and went to #1 Crowd Surf and ticked it off.
