Selfish Machines

Chapter fourty-one:

10 years later

I walk into the coffee shop. Every morning before heading to the firm I grab a cup of coffee and a local coffee shop. With hundreds of star bucks in New York, there are few places that have actually good coffee.

I stand in line as I do every day. Waiting.

I hear screaming coming from outside. I turn around to see a bunch of teenage girls fangirling. I remember being that age.

They take a couple photos and leave.

I can’t see who they are obsessing over.

I get up to the till order my usual and wait for them to pour it. Once the barista passes me my cup I go and take a seat with my back facing the door.

I take a few sips.

“Spencer?” I hear coming from behind me.

I turn around to see Mike standing there.

“No fucking way!” I stand up and hug him immediately.

A girl runs up and asks for his autograph. He signs her shirt and she scatters off.

“Is this seat taken?” He asks. I shake my head.

He sits across from me. He has a lot more tattoos. He looks good, I can’t lie about that.

“So what you’re famous now?” I ask.
