My Words Cut Deep

Another You

Pamela’s small voice spoke up from beside him. “What does it say Austin.” Still staring at the paper, his answer came out in a small whisper. “The child is mine.”

-Skyla & Emmy’s point of view-

Laughter filled the lobby as the two young women and a giggly little girl walked in after a day of fun activities. They had gone out bowling and Alan ‘accidently’ bumping into them. Although Skyla felt Emmy had something to do with that, since Alan had gotten her number from Emmy. Then the group headed over to an amazing mini golf place, where they ended up playing two rounds. Skyla was amazed at how much fun Eliza was having with Alan. She occasionally would talk about Ryan and ask where he was, calling him dad and that made her sad. They parted ways with Alan after a nice lunch and the girls went off to go shopping. As they were passing the front desk, one of the hostess stopped her. “Miss Patrova!.”

Skyla turned slightly to see the young girl walking up to her quickly. “Theres something here for you, left from a Jacobs? He said it was important.” Skyla nodded and took the envelope. “Thanks.” The young girl nodded and went back to the front desk. She turned back to Emmy with a panicked face. Emmy grabbed the young women’s arm and picked up Eliza dragging them both back to the hotel room. “I’m going to take Eliza down for dinner, take your time and know I am a phone call away.” Skyla nodded at her friend, getting a sympathetic smile before the two left the room.

The young women stood in the same spot for five minutes, envelope still in hand. Shaking her head lightly, she swallowed the lump in the back of her throat. Walking over to the chair by the window, she took a seat. Skyla let out the breath she had been holding and opened the envelope. It had the results and a hand written note from Jacobs. She read the note…

Skyla,

After reading the results, it’ up to you on what you want to do. Let me know, I’d be happy to help you.

Jacobs

Skyla took the note off and opened the results. The words of the page blurred, she already knew the answer but reading it officially made her heart sink. Four years she kept them away from each other. Four years she tried to convince herself that Eliza was Ryan’s. Even though when he suggested her last name be Patrova was a bell of 'stop being in denial'. Four years since she got herself in trouble and woke up in a hotel room of a person who belonged to a band she loved. Even though she finished her University with a child, worked and raised her… she felt like she failed her daughter.

She sat in her chair, silent tears streaming down her face. Skyla was lost in her head of doubts and what ifs. She wanted to go back in time and change everything. “no.” She barely whispered, she couldn’t regret the choices she made because in the end she was blessed with her beautiful girl. That beautiful girl was her world and something amazing. After a while of sitting there, she got up and went over to the desk sitting down and pulling out a note book from one of Emmy’s bags. Flipping it to the middle she began to write.

Dear Austin,

I have a lot of explaining to do.

I want to apologize for appearing out of nowhere and requesting this paternity test. I hope I didn't disrupt your life, my intentions were never to disrupt your life. I wanted no trouble to become of this but I know that can’t happen. I didn’t come to you for money or for fame. I came to California to find you because I wanted my child, our child to have a father. I know what it is like to grow up without a parent and every moment she got closer and closer to see another man as her father. I couldn’t take it. It wasn’t right. It wasn’t fair. I want you to be a part of her life, I am in no way making you. If you do not wish to be in our child’s life, I would understand but I would not keep it a secret. I have for far too long and I cannot do it no more.

I have known since the day I was pregnant that it was yours but it’s not easy to go up to a well-known singer and go “this is your baby.” I know you would have dismissed me and that’s okay. Especially since remembering a one night stand isn't really easy. I left your hotel room quickly in New York because I knew I was nothing, just a girl who got drunk and slept with a stranger. So here I will tell you about our child, just in case you decide you don’t want any sort of involvement.

You have a daughter. Her name is Elizabeth Maria Carlile-Patrova

She looks like you, put a picture of you beside her and you have a female Austin Carlile. She is four years old and turning five this September. She was born September 27, at 7 in the morning. The luck of her being born on your birthday, I was told that by my friends niece who's crazy about your band. Her vocabulary is huge because I read to her every night and due to that she is a book worm. Sometimes she has trouble with words and she gets very grumpy over that and keeps trying till she can say it right. She smiles so much you think her face would be stuck in a smile, she has a puppy dog face that makes you melt and when she’s angry her face would make you laugh.

Very artistic, always colouring, paining, telling stories. Eliza loves to sing, I think she’s following in your foot steps and she doesn’t even know you. From interviews my friend has shown me, she has mannerisms like you. I don’t think she has an ounce of me other than being stubborn.

I could go on and on about her, she is my world, my love and my life. I love her so much, I just want her to have the best of everything.

I am sorry if I have caused you trouble, stress or pain… or all of the above. You can reach me through Jacobs if you would like…

Skyla Patrova

She set the pen down and noticed a few tear drops had smeared a couple of the words. She whipped them away gently and folded it up. Giving Jacobs a quick call, she made her way to the lobby and paced till he showed up. There wasn’t much conversation other than Charles reassuring her. Once he took the letter she felt arms wrap around her left leg. Looking down she saw Eliza’s big brown eye’s looking up at he with a small smile. “Mummy don’t be sad.” Charles smiled and left the two there.

Skyla picked up her daughter, Emmy standing at the elevator with a box of food and a soft smile. “I am not sad, just really happy to have you.” The girl giggled and hugged her mother as they made their way back to the hotel room.
