My Words Cut Deep

The Great Hendowski

He looked at Pamela, feeling the stress of both of them. After a couple minutes of silence he moved away from the counter and embraced her once again, standing in silence.

-Skyla & Emmy Point of view-

“NOOOOO, mummy.” Eliza wined as Skyla rubbed sunscreen all over the little girls shoulders. They were all sitting at the beach enjoying the California sun. Emmy laughed and helped hold onto the squirming girl. “Were almost done, just your face.”

Skyla smiled at her little girl. “I don’t want a lobster for a daughter.” That made the little one giggle, but crinkle her face from the feel of the stuff on her face. She finished rubbing it on her face, poking her nose once she was done.

Eliza grabbed the shovel and bucket that was beside her on the blanket and started digging in the sand. Both the young women sat and watched the little girl in silence. Emmy looked to her left, after a few minutes, to see her best friend biting on her bottom lip off in her own thoughts. Giving a sympathetic look, she got up slowly and took the hand of Eliza. “Let’s go swimming, yeah?” The little girl nodded and ran as fast as her little legs could go, dragging Emmy with her. Skyla was torn from her thoughts as she watched her daughter and friend go towards the water. Getting up slowly and making sure all their stuff was together, she walked towards the water. Sneaking up behind Eliza, she picked her up and dunked her slightly in the water. The little girl giggled and pulled in her mum, the girls began to splashing around.

After another thirty minutes of playing in the water, they all walked back to their towels. Skyla wrapped Eliza in her towel and gave her a big hug, putting her on her lap. Emmy looked at her phone, “How are you holding up?” her eyes slowly raising to look up at her friend. Skyla had her chin resting on the top of her child's head, she bit her bottom lip again before looking at Emmy. “I don’t know… I just wish some news would come.”

Five days had passed since the papers had gone out. The young women knew it would take a few days before he got the papers. Skyla just couldn’t help but wish more would’ve happened in those five days. She would have been satisfied with a call that he declined the request. The stress of waiting was weighting her down and made her feel like she was drowning. Little hands were placed on her cheeks, her eyes looking down to see her smiling daughter. She looked just like him in the pictures and what she could remember of him. The big brown eyes, the smile, her cheeks, her hair, she was tall for her age and skinny, she had very little features of Skyla.

“We need to get you dressed, Dr. Kelly got you an appointment down here.” Skyla smiled at her daughter, as she stuck out her tongue in displeasure. Skyla was thankful for travelers insurance or she would not only be broke but in debt. The US was far different medically then Canada. They all packed up, Emmy picking up Eliza and heading over to the rental car.

When they got back to the hotel they all got changed, Eliza changed into a purple sundress. Emmy changed into black skinnies, white tank and toms. Skyla was last to change because she was cleaning up the mess of crayons from her daughter earlier this morning. She changed into light blue ripped skinnies, aspire and create tank and black heals with red underneath. After making sure Eliza had gone to the bathroom, they went back downstairs and jumped into the car. They had to make a couple turn a rounds, taking the wrong streets. The GPS was no help in the situation, due to the constant recalculating. They still managed to make it to the medical center on time, even after getting turned around and stuck in traffic. Parking the car and paying for an expensive day pass, they went in search of the doctor.

“I’m here to see a heart specialist for my daughter, Elizabeth Patrova.” Skyla leaned against the front desk, smiling nicely at the lady. Though she gave a fake smile back. “Take the hall to your left and go to the third floor. Follow the signs that say heart clinic.” Skyla nodded half-ly, baffled at the rude tone the came from this women. As they walked down the hall, Emmy whispered. “Who shoved a stick up her butt?” Causing the both of them to laugh.

Elizabeth was slightly unlucky when it came to genetics. Not only did her father have a genetic heard disorder but Skyla was born with a weak heart and had heart issues. When Elizabeth was born, there was the issue of an under developed heart. Although it was almost to the right size now, she still could have issues and doctors made sure she had mandatory check-ups. Eliza had one bad attack, where it caused her to collapse and it scared Skyla to death. They said it was a high possibility she would have to have a second surgery after her first. When Eliza was born she was raced to surgery and was given high chance of not living.

Once they found the area they were looking for and let someone know they were here. They took a seat in the waiting room. Skyla set Eliza down and she ran to the small table with a couple of old toys. Her eye’s travelled from her daughter to the man sitting across from her on his phone. She couldn’t help but feel like he looked familiar. He had red, orange hair, slightly pale, he had tattoos on one arm, with a flower on his hand and a tattoo on his neck. Suddenly her eyes went down the puzzle piece that landed near his foot, catching his attention. Skyla looked over to where he daughter was. “Elizabeth! Don’t throw things. Using a stern tone without raising her voice.

Movement from the corner of her eye caused her to look back at the man, who was now holding the puzzle piece. Eliza walked up to him slowly taking the puzzle piece from him, rocking back and forth on her heels. “Sorry…” She almost whispered. The guy smiled. “It’s okay, but make sure you listen to your mum, it’s not nice to throw.” She nodded and went back to play. The young man chuckled slightly, Skyla opened her mouth to apologize but was stopped. “It’s okay. really, you don’t have to apologize. “ He smiled and then held out his hand. “ Alan.” Skyla took his hand lightly. “Skyla.”

“Elizabeth Carlile-Patrova?” A nurse called her daughter’s name although mispronouncing Carlile as Carly. They both got up and Eliza ran over to her mum grabbing her hand. Disappearing down the hall into the doctor’s examination room.

-Alan & Austin’s point of view-

Alan watched as two women and the small child known as Elizabeth disappeared down the hall. He couldn’t help but smile, that little girl was cute… she kind reminded him of someone. “You ready to go?” A voice caught him off guard and he looked up quickly to see Austin standing there, obviously done with his appointment. “Ready as I’ll every be Carlile” A big cheesy grin on his face.
