Backseat Serenade

“So everybody has a story as to how they got on Warped tour. What’s yours?” A girl asked into a microphone. Me, my sister, Sierra, and the rhythm guitarist/backing vocals were doing an interview for some youtube show or something. I just wanted to get back to the kickoff party but our manager said this would be some good PR for us.

“Somebody from a band told Kevin Lyman to check us out, so he did and liked us.” I answered the question.We didn’t know who recommended us just that somebody from the tour turned Kevin’s attention to us.

“You guys seem excited to be on tour. Who are you guys looking forward to seeing?”

“Of Mice & Men!” My sister replied excitedly. “Those guys are hot!”

I rolled my eyes at my sister, while the interviewer smiled and nodded like she agreed. My sister was the youngest in the band at 20 years old and sometimes it really showed.

“We Came as Romans.” Jackson answered.We had become pretty good friends with the guys from We Came as Romans after supporting them on a tour.

“What about you Riley?” The girl asked me.

“I’m excited to see Bring Me the Horizon. I love their newest album and can’t wait to see them perform some of the songs.” I responded.

“Well it was great talking to you guys and I can’t wait to see you perform on tour.” The interviewer said and then we all shared our pleasantries and parted ways.

“You don’t have to act so boy crazy.” I scolded Sierra as we walked out of ear shot of the interviewer and towards the other two guys of our band, Harlem and Will. Harlem played the drums, Will the bass, my sister was lead guitarist and I was the vocalist.

“You don’t have to be such a bitch.” She replied. “I was trying to have fun, and you even admitted that some of the guys from Of Mice & Men were hot.”

“Yeah but I don’t feel the need to announce that to the whole world!We don’t need everybody in our business. And didn’t you think that maybe the guys from Of Mice & Men would see the video?What do you think they would think?”

“Hopefully they do see it and see that I’m interested in them.” She shot back. “It’s not a bad thing to date people yah know!”

“Girls stop fighting. Sierra can say whatever she wants in an interview, maybe it will get more people interested in the band. And Sierra don’t pick on your sister for her lack of love life, it’s not nice.” Jackson said getting in between us.

“I could have a love life if I wanted to. I just don’t have the time or the patients for one at the moment because I’m too busy babysitting my little sister.” I replied angrily and walked away from them before our argument caught the attention of other people.

I walked up to the bar, ordered a drink and sat at an empty table. Everybody was talking to others or listening to the band that was currently playing. I seemed to be the only person who was sitting alone.

“Is anyone sitting here?” A male voice asked, turning my attention to a tall tattooed man.It was Austin Carlile from Of Mice & Men. He was one of the one’s that I thought was good looking but I wasn’t going to fan girl about it.

“No.” I gave a short answer.

“You’re Riley from Relentless Dreamer right?” Austin asked sitting down, he sat his drink on the table.

I nodded, “And you are Austin Carlile from Of Mice & Men.” I stated.

“Are you a fan or something?” He smirked.

“Or something.My sister loves you guys. I have to listen to her talk about you.” I replied.

“Is your sister the one that plays guitar?” He asked.

“Yeah, she’s my younger sister, Sierra.”

“It must be a pain in the ass to tour with you’re younger sibling.”

I nodded, “That’s an understatement. But she’s one of the best guitarists that I know and I hate to admit, one of my best friends. Even if we fight most of the time.”

“Where are you guys from?” He asked leaning forward, pushing his cup from one hand to the next.

“How do you know my name but not know where I’m from?” It was my turn to smirk.

“Maybe I do know where you are from but I just wanted to make polite conversation with you.” He responded.

“Where am I from then?” I leaned forward and took a sip from my beer.

“San Diego? If I remember correctly.”

I smiled and nodded. “And you guys are from Orange County.”

“Correct. What’s your age?” He asked.

“Haven’t you ever learned that you don’t ask a girl her age Mr. Carlile?” I replied. I didn’t mind telling him my age I just wanted to know the reason he wanted to know.

“I have criteria.” He responded. “And you meet most of them.Brunette, beautiful, great personality. I could go on but I’m afraid that it might go to your head if I compliment you anymore.”

“Criteria for what?” I asked curious.

“Whether I’m to be remotely interested in a girl.” He responded.

“Well, I’m 24. Where does that put me?” I wasn’t sure what age he was looking for so I figured I should tell him my real age.

“A little young but manageable.” He replied.

“What age were you looking for?”

“My age, 26.” He answered.

“Geez, you’re an old man. I don’t know whether I’d be remotely interested in you.” I smirked so that he would know that I was joking. “I do have my own criteria you know?”

“And what would that be?”

“Well I like my men tall, with dark hair and handsome. I’m not quite sure you cut the handsome point, you might just be at cute.” I explained.

“I call bull shit on that.” He replied.

“Hey this is all in my opinion. I don’t think I asked for your commentary.” I teased. “And come to think of it, you might be too tall for me.”

“Well maybe you’re too short for me.”

“I am perfectly normal height.You’re just abnormally tall, Gigantor.” I joked.

“Gigantor? That’s a new one.” Austin looked amused by the name.

“I just came up with it.” I smiled.

Austin waited a few seconds before answering back.It looked like he was thinking something over. “Do you want to go somewhere a little more private?”

I thought about it for a bit. Why not? My sister was just picking on me for my lack of love life.This would get her off my back and maybe make her a bit jealous. “Sure.” I nodded.

We both got up from the table and started walking away from it, trying to walk through the crowd. Before we could get to far away though some guy walked up to us. He looked excited.Must be because of Austin because I wasn’t very well known.

“Hey Austin! Will you mind doing an interview for Rock Forever Magazine?” The guy asked, confirming what I was thinking.

Austin looked at me and then back at the guy. “Sure no problem.”

I felt kind of pissed that he was blowing me off but then again I probably would have done the same thing. “I’ll catch up with you later.” I said and started to walk away before Austin stopped me.

“This shouldn’t take too long.How about you stick with us?” Austin asked.

“I’m sure I’d only be a distraction to you.” I said with a smirk.

“I’m a pro at this, you won’t be a distraction.” He reassured me. “Please stay.”

I shook my head, “I should be looking for my sister and my friends.”

“Can I at least have you’re number?” He asked.

“Sure.” I pulled the sharpie I had stolen from my sister earlier out of my pocket and took a hold of his hand. “Here’s my number.Maybe I’ll hear from you later.” I put my number on his hand, smiled at him and then left.

By the time I turned around I was scowling. Why would I be so stupid? I always yelled at my sister for acting like that in front of guys. At least I had the sense to walk away instead of staying with him.
