When the Hunter Becomes the Killer

Ryder's POV

The crowds were dense and compact. They were nestled closely together, making it hard to move. The seven of us fanned out in a line, making our way through the mosh pits and people. The fans were cheering the name of the band as we made our way, searching for our target.

"Of Mice and Men!" They all screamed. I looked to my left to Hex, and my right to Storm. Nobody had given the signal yet. Nothing was found.

The killer was twenty year old male. We didn't know his reasons for killing, just that he had slaughtered a little girl and the police hadn't caught him yet. Eagle had figured out the most likely target he would search for next, if he wanted another target. Our team member had taken the information and Rift tracked the girl to this concert. Maybe our prey would show up.

The men who came onto stage started with a bang. They drummed up the beat quickly, throwing the fans into a music frenzy. I felt the cold metal of my knife press against the inside of my boot as I dodged flailing arms.

The signal went up. I passed it along to Hex, who jumped up at the excitement of the possible chase. Storm twisted his wrist a little, and I took the cue. We all went to our positions when I caught sight of our prey.

The hunters were on the chase.

The man wore a plain black shirt.
While the rest of the crowd was in a music frenzy as the last song played, he was unusually calm for this crowd. Eagle spotted the man's target ten feet away. She was decked out in an Austin Carlile or Die shirt with wristbands on her arms. The killer casually moved forward as the last song died down.

I played my part casually as the fans started to file out of the place. I stepped in front of the killer at the exact moment, accidentally bumping his shoulder.

"Sorry, bud." I threw him a slight, sly smile. He grumbled something I didn't hear before slowing down slightly. My distraction gave the girl enough time to slip into the crowds, unaware of how close to death she was at that moment.

We caught up in our group. Without saying a word, Storm pointed to the girl, waiting a ways away.

Alone.

The killer moved closer to her. Just from the corner of my vision, I spotted the handle of something menacing. Target: Confirmed.

There was a bus, just behind a gate. Hex whispered in my ear he found a way around the gate, around the bus, and to a secluded spot. Hex and I pulled up our hoods as a gust tickled exposed skin, numbing it with a chilling bite.

Hex and I, the usual duo, moved to our spot as Eagle, Stryke, Rift, and Zero guided the man away to our spot. Out of the sight of the dying crowds, screaming the singer's name, the other six and I dragged the man behind the gate and bus, to a secluded alley behind the building we were just in.

"Let go!" The man yelled. Stryke knocked him down with a swift blow to the head. The killer's jacket opened up to reveal an array of knives that lined the inside of his jacket. Yes, this was him. His eyes were wide in terror as he looked up to the seven of us. He knew his fate was close.

"You killed her, didn't you?" Hex asked him. His silver eyes glowed with a menacing light.

"Y-yes! Who are you?!" The man cried out, trying to plea freedom. Storm laughed, bright and joyfully.

"We're her avenging angels." He cried out. Storm always came out with the right things to say. Zero and Rift held him down as he attempted to struggle free. A noise from down the alley a little ways distracted us, just for barely a second. This was enough fro the man to get up and snag a knife. He wildly swung it down in an arc toward's Rift's face. The boy dodged and Stryke took the motion from the knife's swing to bring it down into the man's chest. The hilt was buried all the way to the skin. Zero jumped on the man and muffled his scream. In a few minutes, the man froze in his last breath. Hex took the body, throwing it over his shoulder.

I checked towards the area of the noise. I saw a figure down at the end of the alley. He was frozen in fear. I don't know how long he'd been there, but we needed to leave. As I studied his features, he seemed to be the singer, the one that was on stage. What was his name? Austin Carlile. I remembered that now.

NOW.

"Guys, go." I commanded them silently. They took off down the alley. The truck was parked fairly close by. I stared the figure dead in the eyes. The hood covered my face for the most part, but I still don't know what he witnessed. I looked to my fellow companions disappearing. As I went to look back at the figure, he was gone.

When I got back to the trucks, we went to divide and conquer. Each of us would take a different route. I hopped in with Hex. He didn't say anything about the figure, but it was a silent understanding.

The hunters became the killers, and the man had witnessed it all.
