The Letter

Ricky was on the ground, “Austin? Was that you? It wasn’t me.” I said and looked over at him, he shook his head. We looked over at Alicia who had the gun in her hand. “Get him!” I called to Austin. He looked at me and ran to Ricky. “Ricky, can you hear me?” Austin asked and picked up Ricky and ran him to the car. He was only shot in the shoulder, hopefully it didn’t hit anything.


We got to the closest hospital and we ran him in, “Help! My friend’s been shot!” I shout and nurses rush over. And a cop appeared. “You. Ashley Manson correct?” He asked stopping me. I nodded. “You called 911 in the car? Your friend was shot?” I told him that was me. “Please sit. Let’s talk about what happened.”


Me: His name is Ricky. He’s my ex, he abused me, but his girlfriend, well probably more like sex slave shot him. Me and my friend Austin were getting up to leave and I turned to tell Ricky bye and she shot him.

Cop: What was her name Ashley?

Me: Uh… Alicia! Alicia… Alicia Copeland. I think that was it.

Cop: Can you describe her?

Me: I can show you a picture, just a second. Let me find it. ~I scrolled through Ricky’s twitter and saved a picture of him and Alicia and showed the cop~

Cop: We’ll get a search party looking for her. Where does she live?

Me: Probably with him, she’ll probably be there. Oh god… she might be… send a car out to both of these houses.


I wrote down Candice’s address and Ricky’s address. “I’ll let you know what we find out ma’am.” The cop said and left. Austin was sitting in a chair by the front desk. This hospital was so familiar… I hated it. I could feel every ounce of pain when Ricky hurt me. Austin had called Oli and he was here. He sat next to me and held my hand. “I tried calling you earlier.” I said to him, “I know love. I’m sorry, I wasn’t on my phone.” He said and I nodded.


We all sat and waited until about 4 in the morning, but I was asleep, “Ashley, wake up baby.” Oli said and shook my shoulder. I woke up and the doctor was standing in front of us, I shot up, “What’s going on?” I asked. “Well, he’ll be fine, it barely missed anything important, but he’s fine. He’s recovering.” I let out a loud sigh. “Has the cop come back? Has he found anything?” I ask the boys.


“Alicia is in custody, she was at Ricky’s house.” Oli said and I felt overjoyed. Thank god. “There’s leftovers… Austin went and got Chinese food while you slept.” Oli said and I grabbed the takeout box and ate some. “That could’ve been you Ashley.” Oli said and I groaned. “I know.” I knew this was coming and it was aggravating already. “Please don’t Oli. Trust me, I get it.” I said and got up. I walked out to my car and took a cigarette out and smoked.


After I finished I walked back inside. “I think I’m going to go visit my dad and my aunt.” I said and they both shot me looks, “By yourself?” They ask and I nod. “It’s not that I don’t want to take you guys, but I need some time. See the family and what not. You know?” I say and they both nod. “I uh, bought my ticket yesterday… I’m leaving in a few hours. I’ve got to get to LAX now though, can you drive me Oli?”


He nodded and we left to my car, he drove us to LAX, he cried when I told him I had to go, “I’ll be back soon, and I Skype you. I promise Oli. I’ll fly to New York and see my aunt for a week, and then I’ll fly to San Antonio and see my dad for a couple days. I’ll be back in about 2 weeks.”


Once I got through security and onto the plane, I closed my eyes as it took off. Hello New York, here I come.
