The next morning, I groaned and got up out of bed, I got dressed and did my hair and makeup. Oli wasn’t home, but he left me breakfast and told me he’d be home around 4 or 5. I heard a knock on the door and knew it was Austin.



I answered the door and hugged him tightly. “Aussie!” I cooed and he smiled. “Hey Ash, you ready?” he questions and I nod. We get into his car and he drives us to the hospital. I know that I’m around 8 months, I think, I think that’s where I’m at. I’m really bad at keeping track of this. I’m only 20, I didn’t want kids this young, but it happened.



I sighed at the ultrasound, “Well, uh, Mrs. Manson,” the doctor spoke. “I think your babies can be delivered. Are you having contractions?” He asks and I shrug my shoulders. “Period cramps. Have you been having those?” he asks again and I nod. “Is this your fiancée?” I shake my head. “Aussie can you call Oli?” I ask and he tells me he will.


“Uh, doctor?” I ask. “Yes Mrs. Manson?” “Can I get a blood test for them? I don’t think Austin’s the dad really. I think it’s my ex, Ricky. And I need to know… I know that Ricky’s got O-Negative blood and Austin’s got A-Positive.” I say and the doctor nods.



Oli and Austin walk into the room together, I look at both of them and smile, they smile back at me and they prep me for the C-section. “We can’t have either of you in here for this.” The doctor says and Austin and Oli step out. I’m nervous, very, very nervous. I have to do this by myself. All by myself.



“We’re going to have to keep you awake for this, but we’ll numb the area we cut.” He said and I nod. He injects my stomach with a needle, I’m guessing to numb the cutting. He pokes it about 2 more times and they begin cutting. “Alright Ashley, we’re finished with this part. We’re now going to get the babies out, alright?” He says and I raise my arm in a ‘That works just hurry the hell up.’ Kind of way.



He makes another incision, I think. I’m not quite sure what’s going on anymore. It feels all so weird. Then I hear a baby, I hear a baby crying. Then another. I hear another one crying. They take the babies over to the tables and wheel them off, I guess to get washed.



We does, what I think is stitching me back up and removes the curtain. My hospital gown is covered and Austin and Oli walk back in with the nurses and my babies. “Let me see them.” I said and they placed the two babies in my arms. I smiled. I looked over at Austin who was on my left, and then Oli who was on my right; they were both smiling like they had just won a million dollars.


“What are their names?” Oli asks. They’re both girls. THANK GOD. We didn’t have a baby shower or anything, we didn’t even know the gender, I just chose not to. And the reason to not having a baby shower is because, I haven’t got a lot of friends. Oli and I had bought a crib, formula, and diapers though.


Austin had bought a ton of clothes, both boy and girl clothes, so we had a ton of clothes, and we can use boy clothes too, they’re just as good as the girl clothes.


The doctor walked over to me, “They’re Austin’s babies.” He said and I let out a sigh of relief. “You can go home in 2 days.” He added and left. “So, the names?” Austin asked. “Hannah and Elizabeth.” I said and they both smiled.



Then Hannah, Oli’s ex walked in. “Hannah!” I said loudly and smiled. “Ashley! How are you? Oli.” She said. “I’m alright I guess. Would you like to hold Hannah?” I asked her. She gave me a look, “Her name is Hannah, and she’s Elizabeth. Hannah Pixie Sykes, and Elizabeth Carlile Sykes.” I smiled and so did everyone else in the room.



“Well they’re beautiful babies.” She added and I thanked her. “But… I didn’t tell you guys, did I? I asked Austin this morning, in the car, and he agreed to it… but guy’s… I’m giving them both up for adoption… we’re donating everything we bought to the family, and I met them, and got to know them, and it’s an open adoption and we can come see them every weekend, and when they get into school we can pick them up from school and everything.” I said and they both sighed, I knew Austin was a bit sad too, but I couldn’t keep them, not with the schedule we had.



“Oli?” I asked and he let out a breath and nodded, “With the way that things are going right now, I completely understand.” It was awful to do, but then the family walked in. It was the mom, Candice, the dad, Matt, and the two other children, who are also twins, but twin boys, and they’re 14, Jake and John.


“Hey guys!” I say. They come up to me and ask how I’m doing, and then I hand her Hannah, “Please don’t change their names…” I said and she said of course she wouldn’t, that that would be horrible. The father came and took Elizabeth. “They can go home in 2 days.” I said and she nodded, “That’s how it was with these two. We just kept them in the nursery, and we’d stay in a hotel and come and see them when we could, so you could go home, if you’d like.” Candice spoke.



“Can I say goodbye to them first please?” I asked and they handed me the babies. “Hey guys. I’ll see you next week, okay? I promise. I love you, and your daddy loves you, and you’ve got a big huge family that loves you.” I was crying, it was so hard. But it would be even harder keeping them.


“And I promise we’ll always be around. You’re both going to grow to be beautiful girls, and I wish you the best of luck.” I said and the nurses came in, as if on cue and took them to the nursery, “They’re probably hungry.” I laughed awkwardly, still crying. “We’ve got the formula.” Candice said and I nodded.



Oli held my hand as I cried. Candice and Matt walked out of the room with their two boys. I was bawling, and it hurt a lot, with the stitches. But it was what had to be done. “It’ll be alright baby, I promise. We’ll get through it.” Oli’s deep British accent filled the room.
