The Invisible Girl
Back On Track
[Phoenix POV]
I don't feel well when I woke up that morning. I always feel down. Or maybe I just don't want to go to work today.
I startled when I heard my phone rang. I tried to find it but I can't seem to get a hold of my phone.
'Where the hell is that?!'
Then I looked under my bed. There you are! Wait! How the hell did my phone get there?
Before I got to answer the call, it stopped ringing. I looked at the missed calls.
It was Austin. He never fails to call me every morning. Literally, EVERY MORNING. I don't even need my alarm clock. He always woke me up.
I blew out a long sigh and decided to get up then my eyes caught my calendar at the table. It was exactly 2 months when I left California and went back here in Sydney.
It felt like it was just yesterday. And it was like a nightmare to me. And of the most unforgettable moment in my life.
After that night, I never saw Alan again. Morning after that, I immediately booked a flight and told the rest of the guys that I need some time off. Lorie already knew that Alan knows the secret so she immediately turned over the work to another Senior A&R to help the band with the rest of the tour. I guess, it was for the better.
Austin made sure that I will eat before I leave. I thought he's going to offer to drive me to the airport but he just said that the last time I left he drove me to the airport and he won't do it again this time. But I understand him. I know he just don't want to see me off because he don't want me to leave in the first place.
I left again with a broken heart and I swear I became a coward. I suddenly felt scared of what Alan said. I wanted to believe him. But I don't want to live behind Sam's shadow in his life. Maybe she was right. He would eventually realized that he loved the real Sam and not me.
I tried to live my life as normal as before. I need to move on and let go of the past. I decided that it was all just a dream, a beautiful but painful dream.
My attention was suddenly caught by the ring of my phone. It was Austin. It was his 5th call since this morning. I wonder why?
I decided to answer but the battery died. 'Fuck! Who the hell forgot to charge her phone before going to work?!'
I arrived at the office and went straight to my table. I got out my charger and plugged my phone underneath my table. I tried to turn it on by I failed. I guess the battery was drained enough.
I was busy with paperwork when we were called for an emergency meeting.
"Guys! To the conference room immediately!" It was David, one of the Senior A&R.
"What's up?" I asked him.
"I'm not sure. Come on guys! Move faster."
We went straight to the room jam-packed with people. I wonder what's the meeting for. New band going on tour? Normally, it would just be the assigned tour manager, event producers, and our A&R manager. But everyone is in here.
"Everyone!"
All of us eyed the person who spoke. It was our branch manager.
"I sent you all here because we have a very special visitor today..."
"It's for you." Jessica, who is beside me, handed me her phone. I looked at the screen and the number looked familiar.
"Austin?" I asked the caller.
"What happened to you? Who the hell in the world turned off their phone?" Confirmed! It was Austin.
I rolled my eyes. "I'm busy. I am on a meeting Austin. Can we just talk later?"
I heard him blew out a sigh. "I really don't know If I need to tell you this. But I-"
I didn't hear what he said because some of the girls in the room yelled.
"What happened?" I asked Jessica. I forgot Austin was saying something.
"I'm not sure but I heard the big boss is here."
Big boss? Lorie is in Sydney?!
"Phoenixl, are you still there? What's the yelling for?" Then I remembered Austin waiting on the other line when he spoke.
"Not sure, I think Lorie is--" I stopped when the yelling became louder.
'What the hell?!'
"Hello everyone. I'm glad to be here and see you all."
I stiffed when I heard that familiar voice.
'SHIT!'
"Nix, Did you hear me? Alan is coming there. Josh told me that he will visit Rise Records' office there in Sydney."
I suddenly felt cold.
"He's already here." I answered Austin.
It was maybe what he wanted to tell me that's why he kept on calling.
"What? Phoenix I can't hear you! Nix--"
I didn't know how the call got cut off. I was still in shock. Alan is the son of Rise Records' CEO and I didn't think of the possibility of a slightest chance working together.
"Hey Nix!" Jess looked at me with worry. "Are you ok? You looked pale. Are you sick?"
I nodded at her. I can't speak. I don't know what to say. I can hear the riot in my heart.
'Fuck! What am I gonna do?'
