Spring break

I was just packing up my makeup bag for the 3 week cruise mother and father were taking me on through Europe. I wasn't even remotely excited for it though, because I was sure there were going to be no other 16 year olds stuck with their parents during spring break. But, despite all my efforts of trying to get them to let me stay home, they said I had no choice. I was convinced that my spring break would be spent sitting in a cruise ship room watching movies while my parents were in the ballroom sipping champaign with all their rich friends.

"Mackenzie! Were leaving!" My mother yelled up to me.

"Alright I'm coming!" I yelled back.

I grabbed my big Louis Vuitton suitcase and my smaller coach one and slung my Michael kohrs bag over my shoulder and started down the stairs.

"Mackenzie, could'nt you have chosen bags that matched in brands?" My mother asked.

"Nope! Now are we going to go to the ship sometime today?" I asked.

My mother scoffed and walked to the car that was waiting for us outside of our hotel. We had flew to Greece, where the cruise began, a week ago. A few minutes later our car was pulling up to the cruise port.

"Mackenzie, we already checked in so we just go to the ship! Isn't this wonderful Martin?" My mother said to my dad.

"Yes it is dear. Mackenzie are you coming?" My father asked me.

"Ya, I am."

I followed them up the stairs and through the little bridge that connects mainland to the cruise. As soon as I got on the ship, I knew that this would be the worst spring break in history. It screamed old snobby rich people. Gold chandeliers, gold carpets, gold and beige wallpaper, and I didn't see one other person near my age. I saw my parents walk to the elevator, so I went with them. They of course had to get a suite, so we had one of the top levels. My mother pressed level 15 and that's where we went. Our room looked like a copy of the lobby except on a smaller scale.

"Mackenzie, your room is up stairs." My mother said, pointing to the spiral staircase that led up.

I pulled my bags up stairs and dropped them in the middle of the floor. I shut the door behind me and flopped onto my very own king sized bed. Luckily, I had a TV and a fridge in my room so I wouldn't even have to leave my room on this trip. I turned on the TV and it was set to the ship safety channel, so I pulled out my bag of movies. I chose the Notebook to start the cruise off. In the middle of the movie, I felt the ship start moving and we were off. 3 movies later, my mom knocked on my door.

"Mackenzie, I know you think that this trip will consist of you sitting in here watching television, but that Is not what is going to happen. Tonight you are going to the teens club to meet kids your own age, and your not going to argue with me or else you will be spending all day, everyday there. All I ask is that you go a few times, starting tonight. Me and your father are going to the ballroom, so we would like it if you went to the teens club." She said.

"Ugh, you made me come on this ship! I didn't ask to! So why should I have to go to this 'teens club'?" I said as I got off of my bed and went over to the closet.

"Just gets dressed." My mother said.

I pulled on a pair of jeans and slipped on a floral crop top. I walked down the stairs and left our room without saying anything to my parents. As I was walking, I realized I didn't know where the teens club was, so I tried to find a map on the god damn ship. I wandered around for quite some time, and as I turned a corner I ran into a guy.

"Oh shit. Sorry about that." He said.

I looked up at who I hit and I was surprised. He looked like he was my age, but he didn't look like he was some snobby old persons kid. His jeans were ripped and he was wearing a shirt that had Nirvana written on it.

"Oh it's alright. I ran into you! I'm Kenzie." I said as I extended to shake his hand.

"Ah, I'm Austin. Sorry, I guess I'm a bit underdressed. I'm just trying to find this teens thing." He said, looking around and shifting his weight from leg to leg.

"Thats so wierd! I'm trying to find teens club too! I'm 16. My parents dragged me here because they wouldn't let me stay home alone on spring break so they're forcing me to go and converse with people my age rather than watching movies." I said.

This guy was really cute

"Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one who's parents forced them into this fucking ship. My parents did pretty much the same thing that your parents did." Austin said to me.

After a few minutes of awkward silence, I spoke up.

"Instead of going to this stupid teens club thing, do you wanna go check up the sun deck?" I asked him.

"Sure! You have a bathing suit?" Austin asked me

"Ya! I'll run to my room to get it. You wanna come?" I asked

"Um, okay." He shrugged.

I led him up to the 15th floor and I pulled out my room key.

"Wow! This room is huge!" He said, when we stepped in.

"Ya, my parents need only the best." I said rolling my eyes.

I ran up the stairs into my bedroom and pulled out my black bikini. I went to my bathroom and put it on, examining myself in the mirror.

"Kenzie, you comin?" Austin asked

"Oh ya, sorry." I said.

I went down and grabbed Austin's hand, without even thinking about what I was doing. We went into the elevator and pressed the sun deck button.

"It's beautiful up here." I said.

The sight took my breath away. I could see the sun setting on the horizon and the pink and red colours in the sky.

"It really is." Austin said, standing beside me.

We stood there, beside eachother in silence, taking in the scenery around us, but then I noticed Austin looking down at me. I stared into his eyes, and he was staring into mine. Soon, we were leaning in and we were going to kiss, but I pulled my face away and started looking back at the water.

"Let's go in the pool!" I said finally.

"Fuck yea!" Austin yelled.

Austin pulled off his nirvana shirt and his jeans, on,y wearing his underwear, and he cannon balled Into the pool. I jumped in right after. All the other people on the sun deck and I'm the pool were staring at us splashing around in the pool and yelling, but we didn't care. We kept playing together, and I felt free. We continued playing until dark.

"Kenzie, I think we should go." Austin said.

"Ya, my parents are probably worried." I said.

We got out and dried off. Austin walked me back to my room, but before I went in, I went on my tip toes and whispered in his ear,

"Tomorrow at 6pm, meet me in the lobby."

I shut the door behind me and went up to my room, ignoring my parents question. I put on my silk pyjamas and slipped into my bed. I fell asleep thinking of Austin. Maybe this cruise wouldn't be so bad after all.
