Meet My Dedication

The Flood

Warped Tour was days away, and I still had no idea what to do. I hadn't talked to Milly or Gavin, really, since I had gotten my ticket. I hid in my room, mostly from dad's rage, and mom's disappointment. I mean, I knew why she would be disappointed in me, I would too: 25 year old daughter with a degree in English and working at a smoothie shop, barely making a living, and still lives at home. Yeah, I get it. I couldn't wait to go to college, and I was doing alright. I came home after graduating for Issy and Geremy's wedding, and stayed after the accident.
I try not to think about it too much, it just makes my wrist itch. Milly's the only one who knows about them all, my scars. She tries, sometimes, to cheer me up. Her and Gavin will do everything humanly possible to get me to crack a smile, but they know it'll take everything and more to get me to even open up again.
I wasn't always like this, I used to be happy. I used to smile all the time. But my happiness died in a car accident two years ago. I haven't been the same since.

Work was the same, as always: I made the smoothies, rang up orders, cleaned everything. I did everything, while my co-worker ranted about her latest boy-toy breaking up with her, or her cats, or something stupid. I never paid much attention to her, and I avoided her like the plague outside of work.
I don't know what it was about her, but she just annoyed the living shit out of me.
I just wanted it to be Friday already, so I could try to have a descent weekend, I needed it. Hell, I felt like I deserved to have a descent weekend.
Milly and Gavin met up with me after work. There was a huge crowd in the parking lot and a black tent in the center. It was WJRR, the radio station. I guess they were having a contest or something.
"Let's go check it out!" Milly grabbed both Gavin and mine's hand and dragged us to the front of the crowd.
They were having a contest for Warped Tour, Win A Date With Austin Carlile!
Milly signed herself up, as did Gavin, and he handed me a card to sign too. I knew it was a long shot to win, just as bad as the lottery, but what the heck. I signed up and the guy at the table smiled at me.
"The winner will be announced tomorrow at 3:00 PM EST at the WJRR tent!" He said into the microphone, and winked at me.
I was startled, and dropped my card into the box on the table, and turned to go. Milly noticed and grabbed Gavin and followed. I felt my stomach knot up, and I had a sudden flash of nerves build up.
Milly jumped on my back, bringing me back from my thoughts, and straddled me. "Two days, fuckers!" Gavin laughed and walked with us back to my car. Milly got off my back and kissed my cheek, "Tomorrow, we're picking out our outfits. You have to look wonderful for Of Mice & Men!"
I smirked, "Who are you going to see? There's 50 other bands going."
She smiled, "I'm seeing Mayday Parade, We Are The In Crowd, Set It Off, ....." She kept naming more and more bands and it started to make my head hurt. Gavin just shook his head, I always wondered how he put up with my sister's silliness, but then I figured he was his own brand of silly and awkward, that they just balanced each other out. They were rather cute, and it made my heart hurt...
Too many memories, too many coincidences, and too much likeness. I hated, and loved, it.
I loved that Milly and Gavin were happy and in love.
I hated that Issy and Geremy were gone.
I hated that I was still alone.
