The Fallout

Look into the emptiness and step into the cold

Oli's P.O.V

“Beautiful, isn’t it?” Austin commented as he took a seat on the ground beside me, his back pressed onto the cold exterior of the RV, while his arm slipped carefully around my shoulders. I nodded my head before laying it on his chest, hiding my face from him; there was no point in letting him know that I had been crying. Truly, I hadn’t appreciated our charming surroundings. Out here, somewhere in the country; the world looked a lot different. Nothing was demolished, nothing was ablaze, and while it was abandoned; it was bustling with wildlife. Tom was thrilled by this. The sky looked like something out of a movie, every ‘inch’ seemed to be littered with dozens of stars, but the constellations were unfamiliar to me; just a reminder how far away home truly was. Home. It was something I had desperately tried to not think about. I could close my eyes and envision Sheffield now, factory towers huffing out smoke, the river running without hesitation, my quaint home I once shared with my parents…god, how I missed them.

“You’re upset…” Austin noted, probably due to the fact I had begun to shake like a leaf, no longer able to hold back the fear and anxiety that rose within my core. I gasped out for air, desperate to calm myself; meanwhile, Austin smoothed my hair back and planted a firm kiss on my temple, silently begging me to stop.

“I'm sorry, this is selfish.” I mumbled, the larger man chuckled a little as he rubbed up and down my back for reassurance, I gripped onto him.

“Nonsense, you’re upset, it’s perfectly normal Oli. Don’t apologize for it,” there was a hint of something in his voice that made me self conscious, whether or not it was sadness or concern was a mystery; but unnerving, nonetheless.

“Right,” I quietly agreed, not wanting to spark up any further conversation. The hairs on the back of my neck were standing up, chill bumps clung to my skin like wet clothing; and in that moment I was absolutely…terrified.

“Something’s wrong.” I cried out as I decked from under his hold and bounded to my feet, Austin shot a confused glance in my direction.

“What are you talking about Oliver?” he inquired as he too, stood up and scouted the area, I stared at him blankly.

“I don’t know…but something’s wrong.” I called out before turning on my heel and sprinting down the deserted road. I could faintly hear whispers, almost beckoning me to keep heading down the long stretch of pavement; they got increasingly louder as my feet came to edge of the town, where nothing stood before me but a lone church. It was in pristine condition, immaculate white exterior with an equally white and beautiful doorway; the large steeple had panes of stained glass wrapping around it triumphantly. The building sparked my interest, the whispers had exploded into screams in my ears, ‘RUN.’ ‘Don’t come back here.’ ‘This place is not for you.’ ‘Come inside and see.’ ‘You won’t make it.’

“Oli!” Austin’s shrill scream literally, shocked me back into reality as he jogged to catch up with me. The screams ceased for a moments time and came back in dull whispers, I pursed my lips.
Austin stood by my side as he tried to catch his breath; both of our eyes were trained on the lone structure.

“Do you hear that?” I questioned as I licked my lips that seemed to become instantaneously dry; Austin gave me a puzzled look.

“Now that you mention it…” he uttered as he took a step forward, I gripped his hand in mine as he and I approached the building, when we came close enough to see the sign on the door, ‘OUR DOOR IS ALWAYS OPEN.’, I turned to face him.

“Austin, I'm scared…I don’t know why…but…” I let my voice trail off as I ducked my head in sheer embarrassment, he grunted.

“Oli, look at me,” he urged, and reluctantly I brought my eyes level to his; he placed a gentle kiss on my nose and allowed his forehead to rest on mine. My skin burned under his touch, my hand was becoming sweaty as the grip he had on it tightened, I closed my eyes; utterly intoxicated by the sensations he was able to deliver throughout me. “You know I will protect you, you have no reason to be afraid; just stick by my side…” he kissed my nose one more time before lifting his head and staring at the thick door that was the lone gateway into the church.

“I love you.” I let the words slip out faster than I had intended them too, in a literal sense. Austin halted his steps and turned around, the most genuine of smiles playing on his lips; he closed the distance between us, his free hand coming to rest on the small of my back as he gazed down at me, my face heated up immediately.

“Do you mean that?” he questioned nervously, I could see a glimmer of doubt in his eyes, I stood on my tippy toes and briefly pressed my lips to his, he returned it eagerly and seemed a bit disappointed when I pulled away.

“Of course I mean it, I wouldn’t say it if it wasn’t true.” Austin practically beamed as he squeezed me tighter,

“I love you too, you know that.” He whispered as he let me go, I had almost forgotten why we came here; it was easy to do when you were so caught up with the person you cared for. But the faint whispers were growing louder again, and it was impossible to ignore them. Austin placed a hand on the doorknob, I gave him a look of reassurance, and with that he twisted the knob. The old wood creaked as the door swung open, revealing a dark enclosure; one I couldn’t see into. Austin murmured something to himself as he stepped inside, and to my surprise, the room was instantly lit, the candles that lined the pews now ablaze. Austin ushered me inside, and not a moment after I had crossed the threshold; the door slammed shut. I nearly jumped out of my skin, Austin….didn’t seem to like it either. Before I could even open my mouth to speak, a gruff laugh startled me; it was growing louder by the moment; and Austin was dragging me down the aisle to investigate. The candles behind us went out without warning, any time we took a step; the candles we passed would go out. I clutched Austin's arm for dear life; completely unnerved by what was happening around me. As we took a final step towards the alter, the last candle was out; and we were left with nothing but sheer darkness. I went to say something, went to beg Austin to take me far away from this place; but something, someone beat me too it.

“We’ve been expecting you.”

Notes

OKAY SO HERE'S MY REASONS FOR LACK OF POSTING;

I work three jobs right now, trying to save up money to study abroad, and that takes up 99% of my time. Also, I've bee really down lately; and while I usually write stories like these for my enjoyment; and others; I haven't had any motivation lately. Whether or not it's from life, or lack of inspiration to do anything...i dont know. I've been really depressed lately so the only thing i do in my free time is sleep...i hope you all understand; i will be trying my hardest to fix my mess, and update more often.

ON THE BRIGHTSIDE; IM GOING TO THE AMERICAN DREAM TOUR ON FRIDAY AND I GET TO MEET YOU ME AT SIX IN MAY. I AM HAPPY WITH THIS.
