It's Complicated

The party my brother was throwing seemed to be going really well by the time I got to his place. There were so many people and they all seemed to be enjoying themselves.I had no clue why he was even having the party, all I knew was that there was no way I was going to skip it.

“Alexandria! You’re finally here!” My brother shouted coming up to me. Yes my name was Alexandria (Danny Worsnop found that entertaining and never let me live it down). Most people called me Alex.Shayley was really the only person who was allowed to call me Alexandria. “You’re late, I thought you were going to ditch.”

“Well the shoot took longer than I thought.” I explained to him. I was a model and I know that it makes me seem stupid but I’m pretty smart; not that a lot of people know that.

“Have fun and don’t get into too much trouble.” He replied and left me.

I took off my jacket and headed towards Shayley’s room. I was going to put it in there so nobody would accidentally, or purposefully take it.

When I entered the room there was a person in there. He was looking down at his phone. He had brown hair and tattoos all over his arms, neck and what I could see of his chest.

“I don’t think you’re allowed to be in here.” I told him catching his attention. He was really good looking but it’s not like I would tell him that.

“Shay told me that I was allowed.” The guy answered. “Are you allowed to be in here?”

I set my coat down on the bed and sat next to the guy. His gaze followed me. “I’ve known Shayley for forever. I don’t think he would mind.”I didn’t want to tell him that Shayley was my brother. People tended to treat me differently when I informed them of that. “I’m Alex by the way.” I held out my hand.

“Austin.” He answered, shaking my hand.

“How do you know Shayley?” I asked. I recognized him and the name I just couldn’t place it from where.

“I’m the unclean vocalist for Of Mice & Men.”

“Oh, so that’s the band he is in.” I said playing dumb. Of course I knew what band my brother was in.

“You’re his friend and you don’t know what band he is in?” Austin asked sounding suspicious.

I shrugged my shoulders, “We’ve been out of touch for the past few years and I recently came back here for my job.” I was always a pretty good liar.

“What’s your job?” He sounded like he was genuinely interested, not like every other lame conversation that you have with somebody else with disingenuous comments and questions.

“I work as a model.” I answered. Probably the first truth I told him since I told him my name.

He smirked, seemingly amused. “I figured.”

“And why is that?” I asked, wondering if he was impressed or mocking me.

“No offense, you look nice and all but you’re kind of overdressed for this party.” He answered motioning to my dress and high heeled boots that I was wearing.

“Well sorry, Mr. Ripped-Shirt-And-Jeans but I came here directly from a photo shoot.” I said lightheartedly to show him that I wasn’t being hostile with him. I knew I was over dressed for this party. I knew that there would be people from other rock bands there and that it was a party for fun. I just didn’t feel like changing.

He chuckled, “Yeah that’s a likely excuse.I bet you just wanted to show up all the other girls here.” All the other girls were in slinky shorts or skirts and custom ripped tees. He was right I was way better dressed than the rest of the girls there.

“If that’s what you would like to think, then by all means believe that.” I crossed my legs and leaned back on my hands. I was fully aware that, that movement slightly showed off the bra I was wearing, the dress I was wearing wasn’t exactly conservative. And just as I expected his eyes wandered a little but then surprisingly went back to my face.

“Oh I’m going to.” He replied.

Before anything else could be said someone barged through the door. “Asking Alexandria!”

I didn’t have to look over at the person to tell it was Danny. That seemed to be the only way he knew how to greet me. “Danny Boy!” I answered back, referring to the old Irish tune.

“I was wondering where you were.” He was definitely a bit tipsy.His words were a bit slurred and he was kind of squinting like he was trying to focus on only one of me.

“I just got here like five minutes ago. I came in here to put my coat somewhere.” I responded not elaborating.

“And you’ve been in here seducing Austin.” He pointed from me to Austin. “He’s a hopeless romantic, not really your type.”

I looked at Austin, not really expecting what Danny said to be true. He seemed like every other rock star at that party.Maybe not as bad as some of them like Danny.

Austin shrugged his shoulders and got up from the bed. “See you around?” He asked as a question, rather than saying it as a statement.

I nodded, “Later.”

He left the room leaving me alone with Danny.

“I think he likes you. Poor bastard doesn’t know what he’s getting into.” Danny said and started laughing as if it was the funniest thing in the world.

“Shut up.” I rolled my eyes and stood up.

Danny smirked, but didn’t continue on with that conversation. He knew when to pursue something and when not to when it came to me.I know he wanted to say more, he just wasn’t going to for the time being. “The rest of the guys are here and they want to do some shots with you.”He said instead.

“Then why the hell are we standing around here?” I said and brushed past Danny, walking back into the party.
