Luck Isn't Everything.

Sixteen.

After our showers, we met with the rest of the band for their early Saturday band practice.

“So are you guys cool again?” Gabe asked, sitting behind his drums as we walked in the garage. Everyone turned to look at us and we just smiled.

“Yeah,” we answered in unison.

“As much as I’d love to hear about your bonding, and believe me, I don’t. We have to practice for battle of the bands.”

“Oh, yeah, yeah,” I said, “Oli was telling me about that.”

“What?” Jessie and Jack asked in unison. “They’re playing Battle of the Bands?” Jessie continued.

“Who cares?” Kellin argued, hooking up his mic to the amp.

“You guys care,” I stated, “They are surprisingly really good.”

“You would know, you helped them write a song,” Justin muttered. This might just be our first fight.

“You helped them write a song?!” Everyone exclaimed besides Justin.
“No, not really,” I answered annoyed. “Oli asked me to be his muse and I said sure. That was all. I didn’t give him any lyric ideas.”

“Good, ‘cause we’re your first band friends and any ideas should come to us first,” Gabe pouted.

“Just shut up and practice. I’m gonna finish separating the merchandise." They had a huge variation of t-shirts and shorts. There was also many posters and very few CDs. I was gonna have to order more to be made because every time they got to play a show, almost all of the CDs were wiped. They were good, really, really good.

“…It’s been hell not having you here, I’ve been missing you so bad, and you don’t seem to care…”

I could hear Kellin sing from the garage, as I sorted through the crates of merchandise. I knew all of their songs by heart so I was humming along as I worked. Kellin’s Mom was in the kitchen preparing lunch for us when the doorbell rang. I heard her open the door and shut it again. “They’re in the garage, sweetie. Just go down the hall and turn left,” I heard her say. It was probably someone in a different band checking out the competition.

The bands around here didn’t care where practice was held at, or whose house it was at. They all just knocked on anyone’s door at least once before any competition started, just to see what they were up against. The good thing about the local bands was that they were all friendly. They all got along and let anyone who stopped by check them out.

I was in the storage room getting everything ready, which consisted of two doors. One led to the garage and one to the rest of the house. They were on opposite walls, and opposite corners. I looked up when the door that was for the rest of the house opened and frowned. It was Willow.

“What are you doing here?” she spat.

“I should be the one asking you that, after all, I’m with the band, I snapped back. “So unless you have an emergency, I can’t let you in the garage. We’re on a tight practice schedule for an upcoming competition.”

“Yeah, I know about the stupid Battle of the Bands. I’m here to see Justin,” she said, crossing her arms.

“Well, that’s unfortunate. He’s busy right now, but if you want to leave a message, I’d be more than happy to deliver it,” I answered, crossing my arms as well. It’s not like I really had anything against her… The glares she gave me at school were partly deserved, but any chance of me and her being friends was destroyed the second Justin’s lips and mine connected.

“Not that it’s any of your business, but I want to get back together with him. It was stupid of me to break up with him for someone like you,” she said and looked me up and down. The look she gave me aggravated me enough to the point that coming out with mine and Justin’s relationship didn’t seem like a big deal anymore. I wanted everyone to know he was mine and I wasn’t gonna share.

“Heh, that’s funny,” I chuckled, “You are very funny. Sorry darling, but that’s not gonna happen.” I went back to work on the crates, pulling everything out, labeling them with the right prices, and placing them in the right crates. “He’s taken.”

“By who?” she exclaimed, “it’s been two nights!?” She pushed me aside and stormed into the garage. I followed soon after. “You’re already with someone!? After two days of a break up!?!!?” she yelled.

Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at her startled. “Um, yeah, I guess so,” he glanced at me. So maybe coming out with the news to her first wasn’t such a great plan, but I still didn’t care.

“How could you!!?! TWO DAYS? IT TOOK YOU TWO DAYS TO GET OVER ME!?” she yelled some more.

“I’m s-“ Justin began..

“Look, can you not fucking disturb our practice time with stupid drama?” Kellin snapped, “We have a lot going on and don’t need this. See your way out!”

“You’re gonna pay, you’re all gonna pay!” she yelled before storming out of the room and back into the house. We heard the front door slam and all winced as it shut.

“So, wait, you really got a new girlfriend?” Jesse asked.

“Who!?” Gabe, Kellin, and Jack asked.

“She’s in the room,” Justin answered and smiled, looking my way.” I smiled as they all stared at me.

“’Bout damn time!” Gabe exclaimed.

“Yeah, yeah,” I laughed, “Practice! I’m gonna finish the rest of the merchandise.”
