“Uh, I-uh, sorry to cut the music, I just, we’re gonna take it slow for a moment,” Justin spoke into the mic, “This next song I’ll be performing, and it's, uh, something I wrote, heh, last night and I’d like to share it with you guys. There’s only one person in this room who’s going to truly understand this so, uh, bare with me, and keep in mind this is my first time attempting to sing so we’re all on the same boat."

The lights in the room dimmed and there was a spotlight on Justin. Kellin stood behind with the band and they started playing again, a softer melodic/electronic song, nothing like they would normally write and play.

I was speechless and frozen. I knew the song was about me, I was the one who joked about being mad until the ice melted. “Are you alright?” I heard Lee ask, which cause Oli and Jordan to turn and look at me as well.

“Yeah, I-uh, I’m alright, I just need a drink,” I said turning away and walking to the punch table. I poured myself a cup and took a deep breath.

“Alright, thank you!” Justin shouted into the mic then took his bass back from Kellin.

“Wow, Justin that was great, but let’s kick things up a little again,” Kellin laughed into the mic and broke out into Call Me Maybe. I smiled a little and went back. I couldn’t keep my eyes off Justin, nor he me. It felt like we were sharing a secret moment, and it was nice. We smiled lightly at each other before Oli interrupted and asked to dance again. I couldn’t say no, after all, he was my date.

“So, that was a great song, huh?” He eyed me.

“Yeah, yeah. We’re best friends and even I didn’t know he had a talent for writing,” I answered him awkwardly.

“Look, Gosh Junior, I’m not an idiot. I saw the way you were both looking at each other during his song, why didn’t you just tell me up front that you had a thing for Hills?”

“I-uh, I guess I just never really considered it a thing, I thought I had a thing for you,” I replied, he grinned.

“Oh, you did, did ya?” We laughed and continue dancing, “Well, seeing as we’re being honest now, I thought the same, and maybe there was something, I don’t know. But what I do know is that the way you both look at each other is just the way your brother and Audrey look at each other. It’s absolutely painful to watch, and at times terrifying,” he explained, “I mean, how can two people look at each other in such a way and stand to only be friends? Don’t ruin your chance and just let it happen.”

I didn’t know what came over me, but I hugged him. The type of hug that could suffocate someone if held too long, “Thank you for always knowing what to say and being so understanding.”

“You’re welcome, now go,” he said and I rushed back to the stage. The guys were already off and a new band, We Came As Romans, were up on stage playing a cover of Glad You Came by The Wanted.

“Justin!” I shouted. He turned around in enough time to meet me with open arms. We hugged tightly and stayed there, “I can’t eve-I have no words for that.”

“Did you like it?” he asked softly.

“I loved it,” I smiled and let him hold me. Things were finally falling into place and they could not get any better. My phone began to buzz and I pulled it out of my clutch. It was Liam checking up on me.

“Do you wanna get out of here?” Justin asked and I nodded. I text Liam back, then followed Justin out after we said goodnight to everyone. Tonight couldn’t have been more perfect.

Notes

The song is not in fact a sleeping with sirens song, so just wanted to clarify that. I've been in love with this song for the longest time & I thought it'd be a great way to bring them back together.
