Luck Isn't Everything.

Ten.

To my disappointment, I didn’t play with Oli, nor did he play with me, at least not the way I was hoping for. We stayed up all night playing video games and watching movies until we passed out. He let me take over his bed and he slept on the bean bags. I slept uncomfortable all night. What am I doing? I thought to myself multiple times throughout the night before I finally caught some sleep.

When the sun came up, I awoke to an empty room. I picked up my clothes from the end of Oli’s bed and headed to the bathroom to change. He had let me borrow a t-shirt and some sweats so I wouldn’t be uncomfortable all night, didn’t work. I heard noise downstairs so I made my way down only to find Oli & Matt in front of the couch watching Scoobie-Doo.

“Ey, sleeping beauty, sleep alright?” Matt asked laughing.

I flicked him off and sat on the couch between them, “More or less, any chance I can have a ride home?”

“Yeah, yeah, do you want some breakfast before you go, or??” Oli asked getting up and motioning towards the kitchen, “I made some bacon… it’s a bit burnt tho.”

“I’m alright, I’d just like to get home so I can shower & stuff.” There was no hesitations, Matt and I got up and followed Oli outside. I sat in the back so Matt wouldn’t have to trade later and we took off. They were going on and on about battle of the bands and how much they were gonna have to practice. Matt thought they were fine just the way they were and Oli thought they needed to work on some things. I stayed quiet the entire ride, not wanting to get caught in between.

“Alright, here you are,” they said as I got out.

“Thanks guys,” I smiled and made my way up the walkway.

“Hey! You’re coming to supports us at Battle of the Bands, right?!” Oli asked smiling, I wanted to say that yes, I’d be there supporting them, but that would’ve been a huge lie. I hadn’t thought about Battle of the Bands because I had heard about it over two months ago and it wasn’t really on my mind all the time, but I did know that if I went to support any band, I’d be supporting Justin’s all the way.

“I’ll be there,” I stated. At least I wasn’t lying. I waved at them and waited til they waved back and drove off so I could finally go inside. Liam was surprisingly home so I guess that meant he hadn’t stayed at Audrey’s.

“Hey, shortshit!” He called from the living room.

“Rude douchenugget!” I insulted back. We laughed and I joined him on the couch, watching Red Dawn with him, his favorite movie at the moment. “So, any plans for today other than skipping school?” Liam and I would always stay in the day right after Mom left. We’d hang out or go do stuff with friends, but we avoided school.

“I was thinking of just hanging here, you sure you wanna miss you? You just got went back two days ago?”

“I don’t get why you care, you wouldn’t even take me with you, so why are you concerned about my education now?” I snapped. Liam had never given me an explanation on why he wouldn’t take me, he just wouldn’t.

“Look, I know you’re still mad about that, but I was doing it for the right reasons,” he sighed, “Audrey’s been hanging out with a hard crowd, and normally that isn’t a problem for me, but she’s been getting into some harder drugs and carrying it around with her. I didn’t want you in the car with that stuff around, alright? I’m sorry. I would’ve rather you missed school, then get taken from me and Mom if I were to ever get caught with that around.” I didn’t know what to say.

We watched the rest of the movie in silence and ate some cereal. I wish he would’ve explained that at the beginning so I wouldn’t always feel bitter about it. In my defense, Liam was my real rock, apart from Justin. He was all I really had left and when he wouldn’t take me, I felt like he just didn’t care.

“So are you going to Fall Ball?” he asked turning off the tv. We turned to face each other and talk.

“Yeah, I guess. I was supposed to go with Justin, but then all this crap happened, and so now I’m going with Oli, and ugh, I don’t know. He even bought me this beautiful red dress, and it’s just absolutely gorgeous and perfect for the event, but I keep thinking maybe I should just wear something I own, and use the red dress for the town’s annual Winter Festival,” I sighed. Our town always threw a huge festival during Winter. The park would be decorated with sparkling lights, the town hall would be lit with candles and extravagant food. Everyone would dress up and it’d be just like a Ball, except with everyone in town, and not just a stupid high school dance.

“Why would you wait to wear the dress?” He asked puzzled.

“Because it’s beautiful and I don’t own anything else like it in my closet and for once I would like to look nice during the festival. Maybe even get the chance to go on a float,” I laughed.

“Come here,” He said getting off the couch and going up the stairs. I followed him quickly and we headed to the one of the spare bedrooms that was used for storage. After he struggled moving a few boxes away from the closet, he opened the doors to reveal a elegant cobalt blue flowing dress with rhinestones. “This belonged to Mom, she never wore it. She told me to get rid of it soon after the divorce, she was gonna use it for their anniversary, but I didn’t have the heart to throw it away. It took me a bit of convincing, but she let me keep it for you in case you ever needed it for prom or some other event. I think the Winter Festival qualifies.”

He handed me the dress and I examined its beauty. The material was so soft and rich, I was scared I’d hold it the wrong way and ruin it, “Liam, I don’t know what to say.”

“Don’t say anything. Use the red one tomorrow night and use this for Winter Fest. Now you don’t have anything to complain about.” I laughed and hugged him. He returned the hug and squeezed until I couldn’t breathe, and even then, I didn’t care. “Now let’s go back to watching Netflix and throwing today away.”

I took the dress back to my room and hung it on one of my closet doors, as the other one was holding the red one. I took a step back and stared at both of the beautiful dresses in my possession. I couldn’t believe it. I literally had Winter and Fall right before my eyes. I shut the doors and headed back downstairs to hang out with Liam for the rest of the day.

Notes

So in the net chapter you get to see the red dress... I'm gonna wait to show the blue dress until I put that chapter up.
