Forgive Me- Part 1

Something Hidden

Jaime's POV

I'm worried about Amelia. She looked so sad when I was singing, and even though she smiled so brightly I could still see the pain hidden in her eyes. I look at her bare arms as she drags me towards the door and I sigh, clean, thank God. It's not my place to ask about anyway, even though we’ve talked to much and I feel like I know a lot about her, I haven’t known her long. If she wanted me to know she would have told me.

Amelia grabs an umbrella as we leave her apartment and drags me down the corridor to the elevator.

"So where are we going?" I asked

"Just to a cafe, we can sit and have coffee before we head over to buy you a new charger."

"Starbucks?" She laughed and I gave her a confused look.

"As far as I know; there is only like one Starbucks in Australia and it's in Melbourne, there might be another in Sydney but there is definitely none in Canberra," she explained.

"Seriously? That sucks!"

"Agreed! I lived in Melbourne for a while and I was just around the corner from it and I instantly fell in love, but I do know a good place," she smiled.

We walked down the street, not too far as she lives right in the city. We stopped at a small café, there weren't many people around and I made comment of that.

"I think that's the main reason I love it here. I can just sit in the corner with my coffee and a book and no one would look twice," I nodded. I can't complain though, the fewer the people the less likely I am to be recognised, I mean I don’t look like I normally do because my hair is curly from the rain but I really don't want to know how she would react to that... I look over at her. She looks so nervous.

"Tall caramel latte with one sugar; talk caramel latte with one sugar; tall caramel latte with one sugar," she was whispering to herself, looking as if she is trying to convince herself to go order. Is she really that bad around people that she can barely order a coffee? I walked up to the register to order.

"Hey, can I get a tall cappuccino with two sugars and a tall caramel latte with one sugar?" I asked the man behind the counter.

"Yea sure, is that it?" I look at Amelia to see her eying off a piece of chocolate mud cake.

"Umm, can I get some of that mud cake too?"

"Sure, that's $14.50" I handed over a twenty, collected my change then walked over to Amelia and handed her the latte and cake and she just looked at me with shock.

"You were stressing"

"Thank you" She was looking at the cup in her hands. I placed my hand on her lower back and directed her towards a table in the back corner. As soon as we sat down she put down her cake and coffee and pulled out her wallet.

"No" she looked up "it's on me"

"I can't let you do that"

"Seriously? You drove me here, you're letting me stay with you until I can contact my friends and you're being my tour guide, I feel as though you deserve a treat" she smiled sweetly and put away her wallet.

I took a sip of my coffee and couldn't help but smile. It was really good.

"Almost as good as Starbucks, hey?" she was grinning with pride. She had a beautiful smile.

"Yea, I'm not going to lie, this is really good!"

"Good, now you have to help me eat the cake..." She pulled it out of the bag they had placed it in and put it in the middle of the table. "Oh, they put in two forks! So convenient!" He must have seen me look at Amelia. Smooth move.

We ate the cake then talked and talked and talked. All the while I couldn't help but notice the way she tugged at her shorts. Her wrists are clean, but is every where else?

"Shit!" She exclaimed

"What?! What is it?"

"Look!" She pointed out the window. I couldn't see anything exciting, just that it had stopped raining and the sky had been stained by nice colours from the sun setting. Wait. Have we really been here that long? For the sun to be setting we must have been here for at least three hours.

"All the stored are going to be closed! I can't believe I didn't realise!" She placed her head in her hands with a sigh and continued looking out the window.

"Want to get rid of me that badly?"

"No! Not at all, I love hanging out with you, but your friends must be going nuts with worry"

"That's what they get for leaving me on the side of the road" she laughed and it brought a smile to my face. It was nice knowing that being around me didn't stress her out like being around some other people did. I really like her and would hate it if I put strain on her.

"Do you still want to go out?" She asked looking at me "I know some good places we could go"

"yea, sounds good" I smile at her and she smiles back before standing up and leading the way out of the cafe, saying goodbye and thank you to the cashier as we left.

Tonight's going to be a good night.
