A Hint in a Song
We were almost into the city now, it seemed like the quickest drive of my life and I didn't want it to end. I Loved talking to Jaime, and unlike everyone else I had ever met, I craved to be around him. I wanted to spend time with him. He didn’t make me want to seclude myself. Even Isaac couldn't do that. I love him but I can’t be around him for more than a few hours without needing some space, but with Jaime, I feel like I could be with him for days and not need to be alone…
“So I never asked you why you were out in the middle of nowhere...” I said.
“Oh, ha-ha, well that’s kind of a funny story” he chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck “I’m actually here with some of my friends and I made the mistake of saying that I could survive without them, so they kicked me off our bus and said that they will only come back for me when I call them and beg them to come back and that I worship them”
“But why didn’t you? Call them I mean… you were getting soaked!”
“Yea I know, but my phone died” he held it up and shook it slightly.
“Oh, do you want to borrow mine and call them?”
“I don’t have their number…”
“Did you bring a phone charger?” he shook his head.
“Do you know where to find them once we get there?” he stayed quiet and kept his head down. I sighed. “Well, I guess you’re coming home with me then, at least until we can find you a new charger so you can get in touch with them. I bet they’re freaking out…”
“Yea probably, but are sure that’s okay?”
I smile at him. “Of course it is!”
We arrive at the edge of the city and I smile.
“I take it you're glad to be here?” he said after seeing me smile.
“I missed being at home; even though that it means that I have to go see Becca and Isaac at some point”
“But didn’t you miss them?”
“Well yea, but I hate socializing, it’s so draining.”
“Fair enough, it can be fun though if you’re with the right people.”
“I guess”
“Hey, you should take me out in Canberra tonight!” I look at him in surprise. “I've never been here before so you should show me around!”
“Umm, I guess so”
“Awesome!!”
It’s a quick drive from the edge of the city to my apartment, maybe about fifteen minutes. When we arrive it’s still raining, so rather than parking outside the complex I parked in the underground parking space. Jaime insisted on helping me with my bags before we headed to the elevator up to my floor. We walk down the corridors and arrive at my door. I sigh in relief, I missed being here. I walk into my apartment, through the kitchen and lounge room straight into my bedroom and collapse onto my bed, completely forgetting that Jaime was here as well.
“Umm Amelia? Where do you want me to put your bag?” he asked from the door to my room.
“Oh, right, umm, just by the window would be great.” He put the bag down and stood awkwardly in my room. I smile at him to try and make him feel at ease and it appears to have worked. He smile back and glances around my room and his eyes fall onto my guitar in the corner.
“You play guitar?” he looked excited
“I did for a bit, but I can’t reach all the strings and have horrible coordination for it…”
“Do you mind?” he asked as he reached for it.
“Not at all, but it’s horribly out of tune, I haven’t touched it in like four years” he smiles and picks it up and strums it. The sound was almost torturous causing us both to flinch.
“You weren't kidding,” he laughed. He walked and sat on the bed next to me and started to tune it. To say I was amazed was an understatement. He did it so quickly getting each note exact, just watching him brought a smile to my face. He must have seen me looking because he looked up from the guitar at me and grinned.
“Want me to play you a song?”
“Sure!”
“Do you know ‘Hold on till May’?”
“Of course! I Love that song” he just smiled again and began to play and sing.

By the end of the song I was almost in tears, that song meant so much to me. It had helped me though so much… Jaime looked up at me and saw the tears in my eyes.

“I’m fine!” I wipe my eyes and jump of the bed and pull him up with me “Come on, let’s go get some coffee and we can walk around Canberra for a while” he looked suspicious but nodded and walked with me to the door.
