Forgive Me- Part 1

Welcome Home

Jaime’s POV

The two weeks at Amelia's Mums house passed too quickly. Even though both Amelia and Jason complained about how three was nothing to do in the small town, they managed to find at least one exciting thing to do each day, even if it was just going for a drive to check out the surrounding area.

We went out to the river a few times during the two weeks even though Amelia insisted that the water was still way too cold because of the snow melting on the mountains but that didn’t stop us. Initially it was just Jason and I swimming, we swam out to the jetty and then went off the swing into the river which was just bicycle handles hanging from a tree by a rope. We then walked down along a little trail to a small clearing by the river with a pebble beach. Jason and I shared a look and then I picked up Amelia while Jason grabbed Eliza and we carried them and threw them into the river. They weren’t happy. After we had messed around at the river Amelia took me up to what the locals call radio hill. It’s not very big but it had a great view of the whole town. It’s so beautiful here and so different to America. Honestly, I was a little hesitant to go home, but I knew I had to. I had an album to record and I couldn’t leave the guys with it any longer.

We were currently heading back to Canberra with Jason after a heartbreaking farewell between Amelia and Eliza. They were a lot closer that I had thought and Eliza looked destroyed as Milly got into the car to leave. Besides Eliza, Amelia had a lot more people to say good bye to and Jason has organised a little farewell for her, and that a heap of her friends are currently at her apartment waiting to bid her farewell. I’m not going to lie, I’m pretty excited to meet some of her other friends, the only one I have met in Becca and I’m curious as to whether or not all of her friends are like her.

We pull up to her apartment and Jason leads the way upstairs. When he pushed the door open we were welcomed by about twenty people who immediately engulfed Amelia in a hug. I would say that 90% of the girls who were there were crying that she was leaving. Surprisingly Becca wasn’t one of them. I went and stood with her, mainly because she was pretty much the only person I knew there, but I also wanted to know what she thought about Milly leaving and how she was taking it.

“How do you think? She’s my best friend…”

“Yea but you don’t seem to be having a total breakdown like a lot of the people here”

“Honestly? The people who aren’t crying are actually the ones who were closest to her”

“I don’t get it”

“Milly hates seeing people sad, and if we were all having breakdowns she might not leave, and those of us who actually care about her know this and know that she NEEDS to go, that she needs to get out of here so she can actually live. Trust me, everyone has noticed how much more outgoing she is around you so none of us want that to stop”

“Right…”
“I guess I should thank you.”

“For what?”

“For finally making her happy. I’ve never seen her like this but since she’s met you she smiles more and is just happier; so thankyou for saving my best friend from herself.”

“Thank you for helping me get her back in the first place” I nudged her.

“No problem my friend” she chuckled

I look over to Amelia to see that she was still swarmed by people and I couldn’t help but notice how uncomfortable she was getting. Even though these people were her friends, it was too much for her. I would see that she was on the verge of having an attack so I walk over to her and just put my arms around her waist. Completely ignoring the looks I was getting from the people she was with.

“You’re okay, I’m here” I whispered into her ear. She smile up at me grateful for my support and I finally looked up to the people we were with.

“Guys, this is Jaime” there were several murmured hello’s but I could see that none of them were really happy that I was there. They’re probably pissed at me because if it wasn’t for me she wouldn’t be leaving them. The guy standing next to me however did reach out his hand to me.

“Jack” he said

“Nice to meet you” I said shaking his hand.

“Likewise, thanks for taking care of Milly.”

“Honestly, it was a pleasure”

“Just, please make sure nothing happens to her over there okay? She’s really important to me and I will hunt you down and kill you if something happens”

“Trust me, if I let anything happen you won’t have to hunt me down, I’ll be here willingly”

“That’s good to hear” we stood there in silence for a while watching Amelia interacting with her friends. “This is going to be good for her” he whispered to himself more than me but I smile and nodded.

“I hope so”

“No, it is, even right now, she’s the centre of attention. Normally she’s in the corner trying to get as far away from people as she can. You’re good for her”

“Thanks man”

“Don’t mention it; just don’t forget what I said okay?”
“Don’t worry, I won’t”

“Good”

I look at the time and see that it’s almost time to leave so I walk over to Amelia and whisper in her ear. “hey, I don’t want to pull you away but we need to get everything together so we can head off” she nodded and walked over to tell Jason who in turn began sending people home. Soon it was just the three of us in Amelia’s apartment and we were busy making sure that she had everything she needed. I had her tickets and passport in my bag with mine and she had a carry one bag with two suitcases. I had to carry her tickets because her mother and I had upgraded her ticket to business class because it was her first international flight and we both thought it should be special. Amelia of course had no idea.

We haul our luggage down to the car after Milly made Jason promise to mail her anything she’d forgotten. I could see that she was starting to get really nervous. She was clipping and popping the latch on her purse constantly, her leg was bouncing and she was about to chew through her bottom lip. I pull her hand away from her purse and hold it in mine, rubbing my thumb back and forth over it in an attempt to calm her down. She stops biting her lip and gives me a small smile which I happily return.

Once we arrive at the airport we check in our luggage all the way to San Diego then head through security to our terminal. Jason comes with us and we sit at the café that we sat at when all the guys were here last time and waited patiently for our flight to be called. When our flight arrives we head to the boarding area and wait to be shown onto the plane. At this point Amelia was starting to tear up and was clutching onto Jason.

“I love you Jase! I need you to take care of Eliza okay? And if anything happens you have to tell me! I’m your big sister and I need to be kept in the loop, even if it’s something stupid like you forgot your lunch or something okay?”

“Amelia calm down. I’ll be fine and so will Eliza all we need is for you to get on that plane and go make a life for yourself okay? We want you to be happy and you can’t do that here.”

“I love you Jase”

“I Love you too Mil, now I’m going to go now before I have a break down.” He hugs her tightly before giving her a small smile and heading for the exit.

We stand there patiently when a lady approaches us.

“Excuse me?” she asks. Amelia looks up and a smile spreads across her face. Do they know each other?

“Oh! Hello! How are you?”

“Oh good, I thought it was you but I wasn’t positive! Im good and you look a lot better than you did last time I saw you”

“Yea” Amelia tightens her arms around me and looks up at me “This time I get to go with him”

Needless to say I was more than a little confused and the lady must have seen that because she said “I ran into this young woman here around six months ago I would say! She was very upset and I just happened to have a box of tissues and a shoulder to cry on”

“It was when you left, she came and sat with me and let me cry on her for about fifteen minutes before Jason made me leave”

“Oh! Thank you for being there for her, it almost killed me to leave her here”

“That’s alright, it’s a necessity sometimes. She really love you, you know” the lady smiled and headed over to where her loved one was standing but I was just standing there shocked. I looked down at Amelia who was looking at the ground but I could still see the blush that had risen in her cheeks. I smile and kiss her on the top of her head causing her blush to deepen. Love hey?

We boarded our plane and flew economy class to Sydney because it was such a short flight that it wasn’t worth the upgrade. When we landed we got a transfer to the international terminals and had about a two hour wait until we boarded our flight to San Diego. We spent this time wandering around the duty free shops. We lasted about an hour before Amelia got too anxious about not getting to our flight in time so we headed back to our terminal.

“Milly it’s okay, we’re here, you can calm down now.” I said, soothingly stroking her back as I spoke.

“But what if something goes wrong? What if this turns out to be the wrong terminal? What if our flight is cancelled? What if we miss the call and don’t get on?”

“I’ve done this a thousand times, I’m not going to let that happen and even if it does then they are all easily fixed by catching the next flight. Now I want to take a deep breath and let it out okay? Sing Remembering Sunday if you need to”

“I’m a crappy singer”

“No you’re not”

“Come one, how many times have you been stuck in a car with me? You know I am a horrible singer”

“Trust me I have heard a lot worse”

“See? Im not good”

“But you’re not bad either” I was willing to keep this little bickering session going as long as I could because it had gotten her mind off the flight.

“Yea but I’m not good enough to just start singing in the middle of an airport terminal”

“Why not?”

“People will look at me weird”

“I’ll sing with you if you want?”

“No! That would be so much worse because you can actually sing!” I couldn’t help but chuckle at her words and as I laughed I heard them call first and business class passengers for boarding. I stand up with a smile and pull Amelia up with me.

“But that was first and business class…” she said confused

“Come on” I dragged her to the flight attendants and handed them our tickets and passports. The woman checked and scanned them before handing them back with a smile and telling us to enjoy our flight.

“Jaime why were we allowed on?” I didn’t answer but smiled at her as we were directed to the business class seats. I pushed her into her seat and she looked astonished.

“You didn’t!” she accused

“You’re right I didn’t, it was your mother. Okay well I chipped in but still, it was mostly your mother”

“Why?”

“It’s your first international flight, you deserve for it to be a good one. Besides trust me, when you’re stuck on a plane for 16 hours the upgrade is definitely worth it.”

“You bastard!” she smacked my arm and I fake winced and she automatically looked horrified at what she’d done. I couldn’t help but laugh at the look on her face and that just caused her to hit me again. “I don’t even care if that hurt. You deserve it.” I just smile and lean over and kiss her.

“You deserve a treat, just enjoy it okay?” I whispered to her and after a moment of hesitation she nodded.

We were only twenty minutes out of San Diego and Amelia’s hand was still wrapped in mine. She had held onto it during take-off and just never let go. Right now it was barely even holding on as she was sound asleep but whenever I tried to move it away she would subconsciously tighten her grip. Not that I’m complaining; I actually found it pretty cute. What I was upset about however was that I had to wake her up. I know Amelia and I know that she will take the whole twenty minutes to get to a functioning state of consciousness.

“Amelia?” I said softly. She didn’t respond so I gently shook her shoulder and tried again “Amelia?” this time she did respond.

“Jaime unless you have food please let me sleep”

“I have chocolate, does that count?” she was quiet for a moment before she groaned and forced her eyes open. She eyes down the chocolate in my hand and I laugh as I give it to her.

“We’re landing soon; otherwise I wouldn’t have woken you”

“It’s okay, I forgive you”

“It’s because I had chocolate isn’t it?” she smiled and nodded.

The plane landed smoothly and we got unboarded quickly. Luckily I hadn’t let slip when I was coming back to America so there were no fans waiting for us there. There had been quiet an uproar over the photo I had posted; people demanding to know about @MillyMaw and how I knew her and if we were dating. I really didn’t want to expose Amelia to that in her first moments in San Diego. I wanted her to have a good first impression of her new home.

We waited for our bags to come around and while we stood there a girl looking around 16 hesitantly walked over. I smiled at her and she seemed to be more confident.

“Umm would it be okay if I got a photo with you?” the girl asked quietly and I saw Amelia smile in my peripheral vision.

“Sure! What’s your name?” I asked happily.

“Lily” she said as she took out her phone and we took a selfie together before the girl turned to Amelia.

“Are you @MillyMaw?” she asked.

“Umm yea…” Amelia seemed shocked that the girl was addressing her and had automatically moved to stand slightly behind me.

“It’s nice to meet you. I just wanted to say sorry for all the horrible fans there are out there. You don’t deserve any of what they’re saying.” Lily smiled up at Amelia as she spoke and I saw Amelia relax when she realised the girl didn’t want to say or do anything horrible. Amelia stepped around me and hugged the girl quickly,

“Thanks Lily. That actually means a lot to me” Lily smiled and said goodbye before running off to catch up with her family.

I smile at Amelia who was still looking happily after the girl. I knew that some of the comments that were being made by the fans were really getting to her and what that girl just said must have really taken a lot of weight off of her shoulders.

We collect our bags and leave the airport to find our ride- Tony- but Amelia stops the second we exit to look at the surrounding environment. I smile and hug her from behind and kiss her cheek.

“Welcome home Amelia”
