Forgive Me- Part 1

Meeting the Mother

Jaime's POV

When I woke the next morning I had Amelia wrapped in my arms. I sighed contently before lightly kissing her head. After laying there with her for a while I carefully untangle myself from her to go take a shower.

Once I had emerged from the bathroom I walked back into Amelia's room to see her wrapped up in her blankets, hair flared around her and couldn't help but think how cute she looked in that moment. She looked so calm, so happy, as if nothing in the world could ever hurt her. I couldn't resist the urge to take a photo of her. I uploaded it to Instagram with the caption:
@MillyMaw, the most perfect thing to wake up to.

I smiled as she stirred in her sleep, she moans slightly as she stretched out her limbs.

"Jaime?" She murmured

"I'm here"

"Why are you not in bed?" She reached out to me, her eyes still half closed. I walked over and. Slid under the covers next to her and pulled her against my chest. "You smell nice"

"I went and showered" I said with a laugh. She nodded against me before taking a deep breath.

"I should get up shouldn't I?"

"Probably." She groaned before literally rolling out of the bed. "What are you doing?"

"Trying to convince my body that it's time to wake up" I chuckle as she spoke into the carpet.

"Want me to make you a coffee?"

"That sounds amazing right now, however, I must shower"

"Don't fall asleep in there" she groaned

"You're never gonna let that go are you?"

"Nope, never!"

"I hate you"

"Nah! You can't hate your boyfriend! It's against the rules"

"What rules?"

"Mine"

"What if I'm a rebel and don't obey the rules?"

"Milly, you would probably freak out if you accidentally walked out of a store with a 50 cent lollipop then you'd go back to pay."

"So?"

"So you're not a rebel, and there for you can't hate me"

"God you're annoying" she chuckled before leaving to have her shower and I decided to cook her some eggs and make her a coffee for when she was done.

Almost as if she had a food detector, the second it was ready she was right there, hovering over the food only wrapped in a towel. I smiled smugly as I wrapped my arms around her and tugged lightly at the towel.

"No no no no no" she giggled as she twisted out of my grasp.

"But Milly!"

"No, there's food!"

"So?"

"It'll get cold and won't taste as good"

"I don't mind" I pulled her to me and kissed her gently down her neck causing her to moan and draw closer to me. However she soon gained her composure and pulled away from me.

"Jaime, we've got to go soon, we don't have time, now I'm going to get dressed then I am eating those delicious looking eggs"

I sigh in defeat as she walks to her room. I'm not going to lie; I am pretty worried about today. Meeting the parents is a big deal and I want to make a good impression but what if her mum doesn't like me? What will Amelia do? Will she still come with me? At least Jason should be there so I'll have at least have met one person already.

We ate quickly and were soon on the road to Amelia's home town. I watch as the landscape changes around me and after about an hour it starts to looks familiar. I let out a chuckle causing Amelia to look at me strangely.

"This is about where you picked me up" I explain and she grins as she realised.

"My god it is too! Ha-ha we should mark the spot someday, make it ours"

"How?"

"I dunno, paint the fence post orange or something"

"You hate orange" I point out

"Oh shush!" She chuckles "you know what I mean"

"Yea I know" I smile at her. We talk about nothing in particular for the next 15 minutes before a small town arises in the distance.
"Is this it?" I ask but she shakes her head.

"Nah, we have about 15-20 minutes left, I do know a lot of the people who live here though, a heap of them went to my school because there's no high school here"

"Oh okay"

As she said, just over 15 minutes later we arrived in a little town with the population of 8000 people according to the welcome sign. I glanced at Amelia to see that her whole demeanour had changed. She looked anxious, wary and upset. I reach over and squeeze her hand reassuringly. She shoots me a grateful smile before turning off the main road and into the residential area.

She pulled the car into the driveway of a nice old style two story house. You would think a yellow house with a red roof would be a horrid sight, but somehow it suited the house perfectly. When I mentioned the colouring Amelia explained that when it was built, using dark greens, reds and yellows was very popular and that because the house is heritage listed they're stuck with the colour scheme.

She takes her small overnight bag from the car and I grab my own and follow her to the front door. She knocks on the glass besides the door and suddenly I hear what sounds like an entire pack of dogs start barking.

"I should probably warn you, we have 6 dogs here and they will all try and jump on you for cuddles at once. It can get pretty overwhelming"

"They aren't going to eat me?"

"Nah they just want cuddles and food"

"so they're a lot like you?" She slapped me playfully on the chest and I can see she's struggling to hold in her laugh.

Soon there was a person pushing past the mob of dogs and pulled open the door. She was very short, maybe an inch shorter than Vic and she looked a lot like Amelia just maybe 5 years younger and dark blonde hair. She erupted into a grin when she saw Amelia and immediately jumped on her and engulfed her in a hug.

"I missed you too Eliza" Amelia said as she patted Eliza lightly on the back. She pulled away and gestured to me "Eliza this is Jaime"

"Hi! You're the American right? The one Milly's going with?" She said as she hugged me quickly. The fact that Eliza was a very upbeat and cheerful person could be seen straight away and I suddenly understood what Amelia meant about being the black sheep. Eliza had no hesitation talking to and hugging a complete stranger. The contrasting in their personalities was astounding.

"Umm yea, nice to meet you"

"Like wise! Come in!" She stood back from the door and the second we walked in we were swarmed by dogs. They aren't big dogs; they're small fluffy ones. One immediately went straight to Amelia and jumped off the ground and into her open arms.

"That's Toby, he's pretty much her dog, and he doesn't really listen to anyone but her and sooks whenever she isn't here" Eliza explained probably having seen my face after watching them.

"What are they?" I asked motioning to the dogs.

"They're all Cavoodles. They're good dogs because if bred properly they don't shed their fur"

"They're cute"

"I know right" she smiled

A small black puppy stretched up on my leg as high as it could, practically begging for me to pet it. I chuckle before crouching down and obliging.

"Amelia?" A voice called from somewhere in the house.

"That's mum, here, pass me your bag I'll put it in my room then I'll take you to meet her." she said to me before turning to Eliza "can you tell her I'll be just a minute?"

Eliza nodded happily before wandering the opposite direction to that Amelia was leading me. The room she led me into was a very large room and the walls were completely covered in paintings and drawings.

"Did you do all of these?" I asked motioning to the walls

She nodded, "there isn't much room in the apartment so I keep all my art here"

"It's amazing" she smiled at me and pecked me gently on the lips.

"Come on, it's time to meet my mum" she must have seen the panic on my face "don't worry, she'll love you, and if she doesn't, well we'll be on the other side of the world anyway." I can't help but laugh at what she said but I am instantly reassured knowing that Amelia will come with me no matter what happens.

We walk through a living room, dining room and a kitchen before we reach a corridor that runs inside of a veranda and there, sitting on the veranda with coffee in one hand and a magazine on the table in front of her was Amelia's mother.

"Hey mum" Amelia says causing her mother looks up and then smile at us.

"Hey honey, how was the drive?"

"Good good, pretty quiet on the roads"

"That's good then, hello, Jaime I presume?" She smiles and holds her hand out for me to shake.

"It's nice to meet you Mrs Mawson"

"Please, no need to be formal, this definitely not a formal house, call me Maree" well so far so good, she doesn't seem to hate me yet...

"It's nice meet you Maree then" I laughed.

"Likewise, so I hear you're stealing my daughter away from me?" I freeze up a bit but Amelia seems to be okay so I relax a little.

"Not stealing exactly, I like to think of it as relocating with visitational allowances" I joked

"Oh I see! In that case, please, take her away" Maree laughed.

"Wow I feel like I'm life stock or something" Amelia mumbled

"Well I'm sure you'd fetch a good price"

"Hey!" She slapped me on the arm and I fake winced causing everyone to chuckle.

"Joking aside, what are the plans?" Maree asked

"Well, in just under two weeks we're heading off to San Diego and she'll be staying with me." I explained

"We haven't confirmed that yet, but he refused to go apartment hunting for me because he wants me to stay with him" Amelia argued

"How come?" Maree questioned

"Well it just makes more sense. Not only does it save her money on rent, I can keep an eye on her, make sure she's safe and healthy and when I'm touring my house won't be empty"

"Yea, Amelia said you're in a band, how's that going?" So the interrogation begins...

"Oh it's great, we have a solid fan base that are amazing and get to tour all over the world."

"How often do you usually tour?"

"Well it really depends, at the moment we haven't been touring because we're writing a new album but when it's released I'll probably be on tour a lot..."

"How long does each tour last?"

"Again it depends really, like the Australian tour lasted a month, but then some tours can last four or even occasionally six." I was hesitant about telling Maree this, she wouldn't like that Amelia was with someone who was never really there.

"And what will Amelia be doing while you're on tour?"

"Well, she said she'd be working and she'll make friends in no time If I can introduce her to the right people"

"And how do you feel about this Milly?" Maree asked looking at her daughter

"I think it sounds good, you know I like being on my own, and I have a position in a care centre as their youth psychologist, and then when the guys are touring the US I might go see one of their shows because I've never been to a concert before."

"Is this really what you want honey?"

"Yea mum..." Maree looked Amelia in the eye for a long second before sighing in defeat.

"You better take care of her Jaime, my husband is a high ranking officer in the army and he will not be happy if anything happens to her."

"I promise I'll take care of her" I smile down at Amelia and take her hand. She squeezes it gently and smiles back at me. Things really seem to be going our way. I'm happy, Amelia's happy and her mother has accepted me and is allowing me to take her daughter away. How have I gotten so lucky?
