I had packed all my things for England. When I first arrived home I think my parents knew there was something different about the way I was with Mike and Vic. But now I’m not sure. They hugged me which was weird because I actually wanted them too.
But now my room looked bare. I had no clothes or shoes in my wardrobe, everything I would need is packed and my walls are empty. The only thing left in my room is a bed, dresser, wardrobe and a chest of draws. I have all my books too.
I heard someone come in and I turned around. I saw Jaime and sighed. He looks so scared, maybe that’s why I can’t help but find him perfect now. He hasn’t even bothered to do his hair, it’s flat and curly.
“Hi,” I said.
“Lyssa,” he smiled.
“Are you okay?”
“I’m great, sort of. I’ve been speaking to Vic and to Austin. They’ve told me a few things that have made me open my eyes a bit,”
“Really?” I asked quietly.
“I had a thought in my head and it turns out I was right,”
“What were you thinking?”
“That you actually liked me, like I loved you. That you wasn’t just using me and fucking with my head,”
“I would never fuck with your head,”
“I know I’m choosing a shit time to say this, Alyssa. But I really love you,” Jaime told me. I looked at him and walked closer until we were only a few feet away from one another. I started to cry softly and I wiped my eyes.
“I love you too, Jaime. So fucking much. But if you’re here to ask me to stay in California, I’m sorry but the answer's no. I can’t do that,”
“I could never really ask that of you,”
“I need to do this. Not for my parents or for my brothers. But for me. Can you understand that?” I asked hopefully.
“I can,” he nodded. “It doesn’t mean I like it though,”
“I don’t like leaving you, but I’m going to. I need to do this,” I said.
“And I want to tell you that you’re beautiful and to not let anyone destroy that by taking advantage of you when you’re upset,”
“Thank you,” I cried. “You’ve helped me so much, and I love you for that, Jaime. I could never have seen how much I was worth without you,”
“I want you to think good things about me. When you’re in England think about my laugh, and the way I can’t even get basic phrases right, and how cool my hair is – just not right now,” Jaime grinned. I started to laugh through tears and wrapped my arms around Jaime. He pulled me close to him so our bodies pressed up against one another.
“I love you,” I whispered softly.
“I love you, but you already know that,” Jaime laughed.
“Lyssa!” I heard Mike shout. I pulled away from Jaime and wiped my eyes. I smiled up at him.
“Time to go,” he told me. Jaime picked up my last suitcase and took my hand. We walked out of my room and downstairs. He set my suitcase down and urged me forward where Vic, Mike and my parents were. I ran over to them and hugged each of my parents tightly.
“I love you and I’m sorry,” I told them each and pulled away.
“Come on,” Vic urged. I hugged him and Mike quickly and they kissed my head. They led me outside to a car. I could see Tony in the drivers seat. They were taking me to airport.
“Can you sit with me? I want us to have that time together,” I begged. Jaime nodded and we got in the car. Vic was in the front and Mike sat by the window in the back. I was in the middle with Jaime next to me. We joined hands and I put my legs on his lap. Tony started to drive and I looked at Vic.
“Vic?” I tried.
“Yeah, it’s fine,” he laughed a little.
“Mike?”
“Since when do you listen to me,” Mike replied.
“Lyssa,” Jaime breathed. I smiled and brought my lips to his. I kissed him with passion and desperation. That’s how I felt, I would be leaving I had to do this now.
“Thank you,” I whispered and kissed him again. We stayed that way.
When the car pulled up outside the airport I tried to stop myself from crying again. We got out of the car and they tried to take me inside. “No, I need to do this,” I shook my head. This was me growing up.
“Have you got everything?” Tony asked me.
“Yeah, thanks,” I replied and hugged Tony briefly. I wish I got to know him more.
“You need to call me as soon as you land and tonight. I don’t care about the time difference,” Vic ordered.
“I will,” I laughed and hugged him. Vic and I stayed like that for a while and I eventually had to pull away. “If we hugged for any longer I’d miss my plane,” I joked.
“Come here, Lyssa,” Mike urged. I went to him and hugged him. He lifted me off of my feet and spun me around. I smiled into his shoulder and waited for him to set me down. “I know you want to start again, but I want you to promise me one thing,”
“What?”
“Live,” Mike muttered. I started to cry again and nodded back to him. Then I went to Jaime. I pulled him close to me and crushed my lips against his.
“I want to tell you something,” I said breathlessly once we had broke apart.
“What?”
“I will see you again. But I don’t want you to be hung up on me. I want you to let someone right for you love you and I want you to make her feel beautiful, like you make me feel. Then I want you to love her back, and not think of me,” I explained.
“I thought you loved me?” he laughed shakily.
“I do, and that’s why I want that for you, Jaime,” I told him. He nodded silently and I kissed him again. I pulled away and grabbed all of my bags. “Bye,” I smiled and wiped my eyes. I started walking inside, refusing to look back. Then I got to check in. I was leaving.
