Product of a Murderer

Motel Sweet Motel

The cab stopped outside of an older motel, it looked like it had been there a while. So this is my new home, I thought to myself. I payed them cabbie and tugged my large suitcase from the small trunk, letting out a sigh as the cabbie drove away and I headed for the front desk. I opened a door, a quiet ding letting the guy behind the counter know that someone had walked in. He looked about my age, I saw him look up at me, closing the book he was reading and putting it to the side. He had long chocolate brown hair, kind of thin, but still cute in a weird way... "Hey, what can I do for you on this fine night?" He smiled at me, taking in my disheveled appearance, and the large suitcase next to me.

"I need a room, long-term." I looked down at my feet while telling him I needed a long-term room. It was embarrassing, I never wanted to be the kind of person who lived out of motels and only had a suitcase. When I finally looked up I saw him turned around grabbing a key from the rack behind him. He finally turned around handing me the key, as I grabbed my suitcase and turned to leave he started to speak,

"Look, whatever happened, you shouldn't be embarrassed. I'm Matthew by the way, call if you need anything." I gave him a weak smile and a half wave as I headed out of the lobby and to the motel room. I was in room 11, the walls were light blue, a queen size mattress with a tv across from it. I locked the door and left my suitcase by the door. I headed back to the bathroom to check it out, it was clean, no dirt, no stains. The place was immaculate. I turned on the hot water, running a bath I took off my clothes and dipped into the hot water, feeling my skin burn as I settled in. Is this all enough to make Jeremy disappear, get out of mine and Alan's life? Oh, Alan. Thinking about him makes me hurt so much. I just left him. I told the love of my life that he wasn't good enough for me. What have I done? I've saved him, that's what I've done. I know he's hurting right now but not as much as he would've been had I stayed and let Jeremy get to him.

The next morning I went out to the front desk, Matthew was still there, shaggy hair and a rumpled shirt. He was reading the same book from last night but he looked like he was coming to the final chapters. Are these the final chapters of my life in California? "Hey Matthew, I know it's a long shot but do you guys have a break service here?" He looked up just seeming to notice that I was there, Matthew brought his hands up to his face and through his hair,

"Sorry, this book, I've got two chapters left and it's crazy. I wasn't meaning to ignore you. Ignoring you would be dumb. It'd be dumb to ignore a girl as beautiful as you. Wow sorry I can't believe I just said that I uhm, sorry. What did you need?" I giggled a bit, he was nervous and seemed so sweet. Maybe he could be a friend?

"I just wanted to know if you guys had a breakfast or if you don't then where are some good places around here?" After giving me the address of a diner he called a cab for me and I was on my way to breakfast.

When I finally got back I went straight to the front desk, but Matthew wasn't there anymore, there was an older lady with greasy looking hair and a generally scary demeanor. I quickly turned and bumped into someone, books and car keys were dropped on the ground, "Oh my, I am so sorry I should've been paying attention-" Before I could continue to ramble I looked up to see Matthew starting to laugh a little, guess I know how he felt earlier.

"Ana, it's okay," He said as he grabbed the books and car keys from my hands. "I know you didn't mean to throw yourself at me and cause everything to fall out of my hands." I could feel my cheeks start to heat up a bit from the embarrassment.

After we left the lobby he offered to walk me to my room, just incase I decided to throw myself at some other innocent bystanders. "Have a good day Ana, maybe I'll see you later." I waved from the doorway of my room then quietly slipped the door closed, making sure it was locked and the deadbolts were in place. But what can locks do if the one person you never wanted to see again is already in your motel room. I was speechless for a moment, I didn't think I'd ever see him again, I stood there frozen not knowing what to say, finally my mouth opened and words came out, "Jeremy, how did you-"
