The Beginning

I Feel So Alive Again

"C'mon Colby!" I shout, jumping up and down.

"Hold on." she calls back, waddling in her new black heels.

I roll my eyes. I told her not the wear the shoes but she never listens and by the end of the night her feet will be killing her. The club we're heading to is just around the corner, and you can hear the music blasting from a block away. I haven't gone to a night club before, so I'm over excited.

"Come on Freshman." Colby says, now ahead of me, as I was lost in thought.

"About time," I mumble but smile at her, she is of course my best friend.

"Are you excited for your first year at Juilliard?" Colby asks as we walk towards the corner.

"I'm kind of nervous, but over all I am excited." I reply, hoping for a great first year.

I had luckily gotten into my first choice college of Juilliard School of Music in New York. I wish to be studying piano and singing and am thrilled to be enrolled at such a prestigious school for fine arts. Colby, on the other hand, goes to RIT in Rochester, New York; which is about 5 hours away, but thankfully she had the next day off.

Colby and I turn the corner and come face to face with the entrance of the night club, The Rave. The lights are flashing and a bouncer stands by the door, arms crossed and face judgmental.

"Colby, how will we get in?" I ask curiously.

"Sophia, look at us. I mean, if they hear the nervousness in your voice they're sure to bounce us." Colby whispers harshly.

I nod my head in understanding and straighten my back, fixing my posture so I look sure and confident. I practically march up the the bouncer Colby in tow.

"What are you doing?!? There's a line!" Colby whisper shouts.

"I know, but I can't wait all night to get into a club." I reply just as forcefully.

"Just, let me do the talking." she pleads but I've already opened my mouth.

"I want to go into this club." I tell the bouncer.

"Doesn't everyone." he replies smugly.

"Look, I've never been before and my friend and I just want to have a-"

"Fun time before college starts?" the bouncer finishes, eyebrows raised.

"Yes, so you understand?" I ask, pleading.

"Sorry kid, but there's a line, a line that you have to wait in." he replies clicking his tongue.

I sigh in frustration and turn around to go to the end of the line. Colby follows, head hanging.

"Maybe we should just do this some other time?" she asks, avoiding my glare.

"No, we're doing this now, or we never will." I respond sourly.

"Sophia, please? I'm tired and my feet are hurting." Colby begs.

"I told you not to wear those shoes." I scoff.

"Gee, you don't have to be such a bitch about it." Colby mumbles.

"I'm not being a-"

I'm cut off by the sound of cheering and screaming. A black limo drive up to the sidewalk and a man with tattoos and short brown hair steps out. His eyes are wild as he ruffles his hair and leaves it looking distressed. He wears a black t-shirt and black ripped jeans. His converse are all beaten and battered. The man make's his way up to the bouncer and I cross my arms and smirk as I wait for him to be kicked to the curb, but instead the bouncer bear hugs the man and lets him in.

"Let the kids in Jack." the tattooed man says, gaining a cheer from the crowd.

"Sure thing Austin." the bouncer smiled.

"We got lucky tonight!" Colby squeals bouncing a little in her step and we near the entrance.

"Sure, but I don't understand why he got in! I mean look at him!" I complain, pouting a little as I do.

"Who cares? We still got in! Now if you're going to be a Debby Downer then you can leave, but I'm going to dance." she scolds with a smile.

"I thought you were tired and your feet were hurting you." I mutter and she laughs.

I pass the bouncer without even looking at him and follow Colby into the sea of people before us. Music is blasting from all corners of the room and everyone is dancing, some more sexual than others.

"Whoa, this is amazing!" I exclaim, my mouth agape.

My prior anger and annoyance now gone with the flashing lights and booming room. Colby makes her way to the dance floor and starts dancing with the crowd.

"C'mon, Sophia! Dance with me!" she laughs and grabs my hands.

I smile and laugh with her, dancing until we are dizzy and drunk off of fun. I look over to my right and see the VIP sections, the tattooed man sitting in the middle of it, surrounded by others laughing. He locks eyes with me and I look away, wondering how on earth he could be a VIP. All things forgotten when someone reaches behind me and pulls me against them.
