You're Not Alone Anymore
More Nightmares
I fell asleep in Austin’s arms thatnight. And for the first time since I could remember…I felt safe. But no matter how safe I felt, the nightmares still came.
I opened my eyes and looked around. I wasn’tin a hospital bed…I was at home. I walked out into the living room and saw Derek on the couch, watching football.
“Where is everyone?” I asked, hoping somebody was home and it wasn’t just us.
“Out,” he answered, not even turning his head and eyes glued to the game. Like always, we were losing.
“Out…where?” I pushed.
“I dunno…” he shrugged.
“Why do you even watch this? We never win and your fantasy team doesn’t either,” I finally sneered.
“Because I don’t’ have anything better to do,” he replied, finally turning towards me.
“You could spend some time with me for once…” I glared. “We could play some video games.”
“No thanks,” he smirked, turning back towards the TV just in time to see our quarterback get sacked…again.
“Why not?” I crossed my arms.
“Why would I?” he scoffed, grunting at the our defense’s mistakes.
“Oh I don’t know…” I began sarcastically. “Because you’re supposed to be my boyfriend?”
“And?”
“And?” I growled. “You need to stop treating me like shit all the time!”
“Oh?” he laughed as he stood up, causing me to take a step back. “Or what?”
“Or…I’ll leave. And leave you,” I forced out, causing him to laugh in my face.
“Yeah? And go where?” he pointed out. “Back to your mom’s? Do you really think she’d take a shit kid like you back? Go running to your daddy? Didn’t he rape you or something?”
“Shut up…” I threatened.
“Yeah that was it, wasn’t it?” he continued, ignoring me. “But they couldn’t prove it could they?”
“Shut up!” I yelled, clenching my fists.
“So your mom didn’t allow you to see each other until you were 18 instead,” he went on, pushing me.
“SHUT UP!” I snapped, slapping himacross his right cheek. I realized what I’ve done when I felt the stinging inmy palm. This was exactly what he wanted me to do…and I fell for it. When here covered and looked at me, my stomach churned. I took a couple steps back and put my hands up slowly.
“Derek…” I pleaded. “I’m sorry! Please don’t!”
“Oh Haylee…” he smiled as his face became calm. “It’s alright sweetie…I was being quite the ass.”
“W…what?” I froze, puzzled.
“I’m sorry,” he motioned for me to come closer. “Come here.”
“No…” I shook my head and took a few more steps back. I felt the wall against my back as he came a little closer with his arms extended.
“Haylee, I’m not going to hurt you…” he smiled.
“Bullshit,” I said without hesitation. I heard him grit his teeth and saw him tense up slightly. This is it…
“Haylee…” he began slowly. “Come…here…”
“Not on your life,” I smirked. I already know I’m dead…why not have a little fun with it?
He took a few more steps closer, attempting to block my escape. I looked around frantically for some sort of weapon. My heart sank when I was unsuccessful. I was trapped in the corner opposite of the front door. Even if I did somehow get out of this corner, I’d still have to beat him to the door. Which was probably locked.
As I was contemplating my next move,my window disappeared completely. I felt his hands around my neck and my feet leave the ground.
“D-Derek…” I coughed out, struggling to breathe.
“Shut up!” he barked, squeezing tighter. “Do you really think you can get away with something like that?!”
“No…no I’m…sorry!” I pleaded desperately.
“No you’re not,” he sneered. “Not yet.”
He lifted me higher and suddenly threw me. My head spun as I flew through the air and slammed into the back of the couch. I screamed as I felt a burning pain in my back and the arm I landed on. I lied on the carpeted living room floor, not even trying to get up.
Derek approached me and rolled me over with his foot. I lied on my back and stared up at him. I groaned when he kicked me once in the side and laughed.
He grabbed my shirt with both hands and pulled me to my feet. I struggled to stand as he held me there, smirking.
“Why don’t you fight back?” he shook his head.
“Because…I don’t wanna hurt you…” I smirked.
He half-laughed then pushed me back. I back flipped over the couch and hit the floor hard. I looked around, dazed. Derek came around the couch and stood over me. He shook his head and frowned.
“Smartass…You should have fought back…” he smirked. “Maybe you would have stood a chance…”
He walked around to the side of me and raised his foot. I shook my head, laughing slightly.
“You’d never get away with this if you do it that way…” I smirked.
“Good point…” he pondered, lowering his foot. “Unless…someone broke in. I tried my best to fight them off. But I couldn’t. And when you tried…they beat your head in.”
He raised his foot once more, and brought it down full force.
