Who Will I Be For My Daughter?

They Could Use One Less Heart To Break

It was just over a month of trying for a baby that it finally happened. I sat on the toilet looking at little pink lines on the shop bought pregnancy test and chewed on my bottom lip with worry. Sure, Austin wanted another baby and I’d agreed but now it was here I was worried. Really worried.

“Taylor? Baby, are you alright?” Austin banged on the bathroom door before peeking his head around the white wood. He noticed the test in my hand and gave me a sympathetic smile. We’d been in this position pretty much nearly a hundred times over the last month.

“We’ll get there eventually, angel.”

I just handed the test to him and watched as his face turned from confusion to pure happiness. He tossed the stick on the floor before picking me up and spinning me around with a huge smile on his beautiful face. I hid my face in his neck and tried to hide my smile from him as he squashed me tighter to his body.

“I love you. I love you.” He kept repeating as he kissed my face repeatedly. He finally put me down so I sat on the counter and he wedged himself between my thighs, the smile still on his face.

“Aren’t you happy?” He asked me as he stroked his hand down the side of my face. I nodded against his palm but he lifted my face to his and frowned at me.

“Don’t lie to me, Taylor.”

“I’m just worried, Austin. What if this baby does have your heart condition? After the surgery you’ve just been through do you really think having a baby is the best thing to do right now?”

“Are you saying you want to get rid of our baby?” Austin whispered as he placed his hand over my stomach with a worried frown.

“No! I don’t want to get rid of the baby. He or she is ours now but I’m just worried that they’re going to have your heart condition.” Tears started seeping from my eyes and he gently swiped them away with a shushing noise.

“Taylor, if the baby does my heart condition then we’ll deal with it. He or she is going to be fine.” Austin kissed the tip of my nose and pulled me closer to his body again with a smile.

“Yeah, okay.” I nodded against his chest and he bent down to kiss me. I kissed him back gently as his hand slowly began to creep up my shirt. I chuckled against his lips as he gently pulled me to the edge of the counter so he could rub himself against me.

“Mummy! Daddy!” Austin groaned and rested his head against my neck with a sigh. I kissed the side of his and gently nudged him away. I hopped of the counter and out of the bathroom with a smile. Gus was holding Mia in his arms as she fiddled with a Barbie doll Austin had bought her a few weeks prior.

“How was your day, sweetie?” I asked as I held my arms out for her. She launched herself into my arms and grinned her gap-toothed smile at me.

“I made a picture!” Alan held up the picture and I smiled down at my little girl. How was she going to handle having a baby brother or sister?

“Mia, how would you feel about a baby brother or sister?” Austin asked as he left the bathroom, his cheeks rosy. I frowned at him and he just shrugged at me with a wink.

“Can I dress him or her up?”

“If you want to.” I agreed and she seemed to be considering it for a few moments before she smiled and nodded.

“You’ll have to protect your baby brother or sister from anything. You understand, Mia?” Austin asked as he plucked her from my arms and I sat on the sofa before Alan and Gus took a seat next to me.

“So…you’re pregnant again?” Alan asked his slung his arm over the back of the sofa with a smirk. I just shrugged and Alan ruffled my hair with a laugh.

“You’re not going to be a grumpy bitch again are you?” Gus asked before crossing his legs on the couch. I noticed the new tattoo inside his wrist and looked at Alan’s wrist too. They’d gotten each other’s names tattooed. I smiled at them and kissed each of their cheeks.

“We’ll see, muffins.” I grinned and stood from the sofa and headed towards my husband and daughter. Austin was singing to her and Mia was nearly asleep in his arms.

“Disneyland.” Mia whispered to me and smiled at her before kissing her forehead.

“Disneyland it is then.” I said to her and Austin smiled at both of us. He stepped away and took Mia upstairs to her bedroom while I headed into the kitchen and out of the backdoor. I opened the gate what separated my parents garden from ours and Austin and crossed into the hot summer garden.

My parents were playing some sort of game on the patio and my dad was smiling while my mum looked like she was going to hurt someone.

“Hi.” I said as I kissed each of their cheeks and sat on one of the cushioned chairs that sat under the porch.

“Hello, darling.” Dad said to me as he moved a red piece and removed a blue piece from the board.

“Your father is cheating.” Mum said with a glare in his direction.

“I’m pregnant.” I said before dad could make his next move. Both my parents smiled at me and each gave me a big hug. My mum noticed I wasn’t so sure about it and made me sit next to her while I explained my worries that this baby was going to get Austin’s heart condition.

“We had the same worry that you were going to get your father’s kidney problem. Luckily you didn’t. You just have to see what happens, Taylor. Keep your fingers crossed and I’m sure this baby will be fine.” Mum said before kissing my cheek again.

“Here is your husband now. Why don’t you two go celebrate?” Mum winked at me and I shook my head before standing up and taking Austin’s offered hand before he led me back to our home.

“I’m taking you out to dinner tonight then we’re going to have a long night alone together.” Austin whispered in my ear as his hand slipped down the back of my jeans with a grin.

“Don’t think I don’t know what you done in the bathroom when Alan and Gus got here.” I said with a shake of my head and he grabbed me by the waist and dipped me low in his arms before giving me a deep kiss.

“Ah, love. You shouldn’t be so desirable then I wouldn’t need to.” He grinned as we walked inside and I noticed a letter on the table. I picked up the white envelope with Austin’s name on it. He shrugged at me and I tore open the stiff envelope. In delicate script was a handwritten letter.

Dear Austin,

You don’t know me but you really should dump your stupid whore of a wife to come and be mine. We met once a show and you told me I was beautiful. You were obviously lying because I came to every single show after. Even the ones where your stupid fucking skank of a wife was. I don’t understand why you married her when you could have had me.

When I found out you were having a child together it made me physically sick. Why would you even want to touch that disgusting piece of fat? She is an abomination. You should be with me and not her. When will you come to your senses? Maybe when I put a bullet through her ugly ass face? Or when your child is dead?

All my love,
P

I put my hand to my mouth in horror and handed the letter to Austin who read the letter quickly before picking up his cell to dial the police. My breathing was getting shorter and shorter and before I knew it I was passing out.
