Perception Falls

I Can't Put A Finger On My Feelings

A/N Hayley has been changed to Jenna. I had Hayley in Sense Of Reality. Whoops.

After our boardwalk window shopping in which every cost nearly an arm and a leg, we sat down for dinner at McDonalds. With only greasy fries, ham-that-wasn't-really-hamburgers and a medium-sized cup of soft drink each, the young girl behind the register had difficulties logging our order. We stood to the side after ordering and scoping the place for a seat. There was none, and when our food was done ten minutes later, we trooped over to the beach to eat.

'So, your talk with Andy?' Diana asked hesitantly, biting into her burger. She chewed slowly, grimacing at the taste. I decided to leave my burger alone for now and eat a few chips.

'Uh, yeah. He wants to... go on a date with me?' I said, unsure of his actual intentions. All he'd said was "get to know you better". I'm not sure if that constituted as a date or not, but either way Diana looked at me with more emotion on her face than usual.

'Woah, really? Already picking up college guys, huh?' She smiled briefly, before returning to her burger. I gave a light laugh, taking a long draw from my drink. The chips were ridiculously salty, leaving a bad taste in my mouth. I wanted to spit them out. Diana continued to look up from her meal periodically, assessing me as though she had something on her mind.

'What do you think of Andy?' She asked finally, the sun setting and the only thing left of our dinner the ice in my cup. I shrugged, I honestly had no opinion of Andy at the moment. He was definitely flirty though, and liked to push people's buttons.

'He's okay. Want to go back to the dorm?' Diana nodded, dusting herself off and putting her rubbish in the bin. 'Do you think your roommate would have arrived?' Diana was still trying to become more comfortable with people, and was highly untrusting of most. She tolerated me, and was very cautious at times because I knew some of her deepest secrets. We weren't the best of friends anymore, and while that stung, I still enjoyed her company.

'Hopefully. I don't want to set up the room without her approval.' I said, answering the question with butterflies in my stomach. This was all so new. It was scary and thrilling at the same time. Diana nodded solemnly, silently agreeing.

'I hope Jenna hasn't made a bombshell of mine.' She mumbled.

Diana

I walked into my room to find a girl of similar height as Jessica setting up the beds.

'Nice to see you're finally here.' She smiled, her low voice friendly. 'I'm Tay.' She had short brown hair, styled with a side fringe. She had a nose ring and bright eyes.

'Diana.'

'I gathered, now, want to help me set up? I'd like to be able to sleep comfortably tonight.' She had an infectious smile that relayed that she meant no harm in her words.

'Oh, yeah, right.' We continued to set up the bed and I let her talk. She asked me a few questions, to which I gave short, quick answers to. She seemed happy to talk, but bored of it when she learned she was getting no response. I did care, just not right now. How could I think peacefully knowing Alan was down the hall?

This story is on an indefinite hiatus. I have no motivation or inspiration for it anymore. I'll write it when I write it. My muse is gone.
