I Could Never Get Enough

Choose

The lunch was going painfully well. Jane was under the impression that Adam and I had gotten back together and were a couple again, even though we denied it when she asked, she just wrote it off and continued to awe at us whenever we did or said something that seemed cute to her. It was her way of convincing herself that everything was going to be alright for her. But nothing was alright for her; I could still see the pain hiding in her facial expressions. I could see the worry in the bags under her eyes and the stiffness in her smiles. Even though I wasn’t around Jane a lot in the past five years, I still knew her well enough to know when things weren’t right with her.

“I’m so glad we were able to have lunch,” Jane gushed with a sigh as Alan was handed the receipt for their meal. He placed his credit card in the receipt folder and placed it at the end of the table.

I placed my credit card in my own receipt folder and I tried not to wince at the price as I set the folder down at the end of the table just as Alan did.

“Aw man, I really have to pee,” Jane groaned. “Let me out,” she said to Adam as she began to scoot over in the booth. Adam stood up and let her out, which took her quite a while because apparently her back had been bothering her. She was acting as if she was eight months pregnant when really she was only four months in.

“Are you coming, Addie?” Jane asked as she pulled her shirt down a bit.

“Oh, uh, yeah.” I grabbed my purse and stood up, making sure to give Adam a worried expression before following Jane toward the restrooms.

I knew that it was an unwritten law for girls to use the buddy system when using the restroom, but I was afraid of being alone with Jane. I was almost positive that as soon as the doors were to shut to the bathroom that her hands would be around my neck.

The door swung shut behind us but nothing happened. Jane made her way over to the largest stall, giving me a small smile as she shut it behind her. I was genuinely confused. Why was Jane acting this way?

I didn’t have to use the restroom so I just checked my makeup in the mirror, making sure nothing was smudged, and then went ahead and made sure there was no food in my teeth. I turned around after I had finished looking at myself in the mirror and leaned against the counter, waiting for Jane to finish peeing. I finally heard the toilet flush and made sure to scoot over enough so she would have full access to one of the sinks. I rested my hands on the edge of the sink behind me, letting out a sigh as I tried not to think about what kind of conversation she might bring up.

She walked over to the sink without saying a word, though. She went to wash her hands, and I watched as she reached up to the soap dispenser beside her. She reached her hand up to push on the dispenser while her other hand waited beneath it.

“Holy shit,” I nearly choked on air when I noticed the giant rock that was on her hand that was pushing on the dispenser.

“What?” Jane asked, giving me a confused look as she rubbed he hands together under the water.

“That ring,” I said, my voice still strained as if I was choking. “It’s enormous.”

Jane chuckled a little bit to herself. Before she turned off the water and turned around so she was leaning against the counter beside me. She held her hand out in front of me so I could inspect it. I grabbed her hand with my own and pulled it closer to my face, looking at the giant diamond that was in the head of the ring. The band was silver and lined with tons of tiny diamonds all around it. It looked like the entire thing was made out of diamond.

“I’m so excited,” she gushed, staring at the ring.

She stood up straight, still staring at her ring with a content smile before putting it down by her side and looking over at me. “Shall we?” she said, starting to walk toward the door. I followed her back over to the table. Adam had scooted over so he was sitting directly across from Alan now. He was huddled over as the two of them spoke. Once Alan noticed us walk back up, he stopped talking and leaned back in the booth, a smile taking over his face. He slid out of the booth, Adam following his actions, right as us girls approached.

“This was nice,” Jane smiled warmly. I hated how trophy-wife she was acting. Why did she have to act like she was so perfect and everything was so perfect? “We should do it again!”

“Yeah,” Adam said hesitantly, a pained smile taking over his face.

“Oh,” Alan said after they began to walk away. He jogged back over to us from the front of the restaurant and held his hand out. “Here’s your credit card back.” He held his hand out, cradling the card in his palm and keeping it in place with his thumb. I help my hand out and he slid out hands together as if we were doing some sort of drug deal. He gave me a smile before gently biting his lip and turning away.

“What was that all about?” Adam asked, staring after Alan had he jogged back over to Jane. He pushed the door open for her and the two of them walked down the street before getting into Alan’s car.

I couldn’t help but smile and bite my lip as I wrapped my hand around what Alan had given me. Adam began to walk towards the entrance and I followed a few feet behind him. “I have no idea,” I muttered as I looked down at the hotel room key that Alan had handed me along with my credit card. That sneaky bastard.

-

On the room key was a time and a room number written in sharpie and I couldn’t help but smile at the fact that Alan had gotten the room key before he knew Jane was going to be interrupting our lunch. I loved the fact that Alan still wanted to see me, but I really hoped that we would be talking more than we would be having sex. I wanted to have sex with Alan - I craved the feeling he gave me between the sheets, but given the circumstances, I knew that I didn’t want to have sex with Alan right now. Not while things were still all fucked up.

I got a taxi to the hotel instead of driving my own car just to be safe in case anybody were to be out and about and notice my car – it wasn’t exactly a common car. I could thank the ugly, yellow paint job for that. I noticed that Alan’s car was nowhere in sight, and I wondered if he did the same thing that I had done.

I walked into the hotel right at eight o’clock like that room key said and headed straight for the elevator.

“Alan, stop,” I whispered through a giggle as he continued to try and kiss my neck from behind me. The people in the elevator shifted uncomfortably as I continued to giggle, Alan’s hands trailing up my sides. He reached his hands down and tried to put them under my dress, but I quickly swat his hands away. “Control yourself.”

“No,” Alan replied. He grabbed my hair and gently pulled on it to lean my head backwards and to the side. He attached his lips to mine, exhaling as our lips immediately began to move together – passion and love sending shivers up my spine. Alan tried again with his hands – his left hand rested on my hip as his right hand trailed up the back of my dress and around my middle. He rested his hand on the elastic of my underwear, his fingers gently pushing their way under the elastic band and downward.

I couldn’t make him stop. His lips were attached to mine and his hands were leaving goosebumps everywhere they touched. My skin was on fire, my cheeks heated as I couldn’t seem to catch my breath as he continued to push his hand down.

The elevator doors opened and he pulled his lips from mine, each of us standing up a bit straighter, but he kept his hands in their place. The people in the elevator walked out and a small new group walked in. I expected Alan to pull away and wait until we reached the top floor – only six more floors to go – but instead he shoved his hand all the way down, causing my breathing to hitch as I felt his hand moving against my body, the pleasure already making me want to moan out.

I sunk my teeth into my bottom lip to keep myself quiet, masking my moans with giggles as the people in the elevator slowly began to take notice of us – the drunk, scandalous couple in the corner of the elevator. We reached the floor right before the penthouse and the group of people began to walk out, an elderly woman turning around before she could completely exit.

“Show a little respect for yourselves,” she scolded, staring us straight in the eyes.

“Oh, come on, Hildy,” her husband said, ushering her out of the elevator. He turned around while she continued walking and gave us a wink while sticking his tongue out with an ‘OK’ sign being made with his right hand. He disappeared just as the elevator doors shut.

“Oh my god,” I laughed as I stared at the closed doors, unsure of what had just happened. “Look what you’ve done. You’ve made old ladies disapprove of us!”

“Yeah, but that old man sure didn’t mind,” Alan commented, staring at the door with the hand that wasn’t under my dress.

I rolled my eyes. “Whatever,” I laughed. “Can you get your hand out from beneath my dress now?” I asked as the elevator went up to the top floor.

He pushed his hand lower, his fingertips dancing along my body, making my back arch with pleasure as I let out a loud moan that had been building up from trying to be so quiet. I panted a bit as Alan kissed my cheek, leaving his lips against my skin as he slowly continued to tease me. “What if your band mates are in?” I asked, my voice weak and breathy.

“So?” he asked.

“The elevator doors are going to open and they’re going to see us with…see that…” I couldn’t say it.

“See what?” he asked, his voice low and husky in my ear. “See that I’m trying to make my woman come?”

My eyes went wide at his words. He was never usually so vulgar, but I guess now that we were more comfortable with each other, and drunk, I was bound to see the dirtier sides of Alan. He was a rock star after all, there’s no way he didn’t have a dirty side. I couldn’t deny it though, his words turned me on.

“Yeah…trying,” I said with an eye roll to try and tease him.

His face mocked hurt. “Okay, that’s it,” he said, his eyes turning hungrier. The doors opened the penthouse and we walked in, immediately hearing the chatter of his band mates.

He turned me around and lifted me up so he was carrying me. My legs wrapped around his waist as his left hand supported my body, even though I was sure that I was holding on to him so tight that he couldn’t drop me even if he let go. His right hand somehow was still in its position beneath my dress, as he took a step forward, he moved two fingers down so that he could make me moan, moving them as he carried me through the penthouse.

I bit onto his shoulder to keep myself quiet as the pleasure over took me.

“Hey Alan,” one of the guys greeted. I kept my eyes shut tight, embarrassed that the guys were talking to us even though they had no idea what Alan’s fingers were currently doing to me. “Woah, is she drunk?”

“Nope,” Alan said, humor in his voice. I lifted up my right hand and hit him on the shoulder that my head wasn’t resting on. The guys laughed a little bit.

“Is she okay?” another voice asked.

Alan chuckled a little bit and I bit down on his shoulder extra hard, making him flinch and let out a groan. “Dammit, Addie,” he cursed. “She’s biting my shoulder,” he explained to the guys.

“Um, why?”

Alan chuckled again to himself, moving his fingers against me again, causing me to bury my head in the crook of his neck and this time take his flesh between my teeth. He hissed as he turned his head to the side, the guys probably all able to see what I was doing.

“Oh my god, Alan,” a voice I knew was Austin’s laughed. “Get out of here, go…go away!” He knew exactly what was going on.

Alan stood there for a moment, adjusting his hand that was between my legs.

“I saw that!” a voice screamed.

I lifted my head and stared him dead in the eyes while lifting my hand up to heat him again, this time hitting him over and over again. Alan gave me a warning look to tell me to stop and I knew exactly what he was going to do if I didn’t. And I kind of wanted him to do it. So I didn’t stop.

He moved his hand one more time and I bit down on my lip while staring at him. I put my hand down and shook my head before burying it into his shoulder once again.

“You’re crazy,” one of the guys called out, laughing hysterically.

“Alright, excuse me, gentlemen,” Alan said calmly. “I have something I need to finish.”

“Oh my god,” I muttered in disbelief. “You’re fucking dead,” I whispered into his ear as he carried us to his room.

Alan just chuckled before shutting the door behind us and tossing me down on the bed, him right on top of me.

I used the key card and let myself into the room, feeling nervous and slightly awkward about the entire situation. My memory that I head leading up to the room had my mind on one thing only – the one thing I didn’t want to be thinking about, and it was all I could think about.

It was a suite, much to my surprise. I walked in to a nice entry way that had a glass table with a big arrangement of colorful flowers – their scent immediately filling my nose as I shut the door behind me. I could see the bed straight ahead of me; the French doors were open to the room, but the light was off. I knew that Alan didn’t invite me here for sex, or else the room would be lit up and inviting.

I turned to my left and saw the living room area – a big couch with a flat-screen TV mounted to the wall. Music was playing in the background, but Alan wasn’t there. I walked to the right of the entry way to the kitchen and dining room area. The room was lit up and a rush of smells immediately made my mouth water. Alan had to be in there.

I walked all the way in, carefully walking down the two steps that led into the kitchen area. My heels clicked against the tile as soon as I dropped down from the last step and I looked up to see Alan turning around, standing by the dining room table.

“Addie,” he breathed out as he looked over my appearance. I was glad that I had dressed up a bit, deciding on wearing one of my fancier dresses and a pair of heels, since Alan was also dressed up. He was wearing black skinnies and shoes without holes, and a black-button up shirt with the sleeves pushed up.

“Hi,” I breathed in return, looking down as I tucked a piece of my curled hair behind my ears. I couldn’t even stand to look at him without my body shivering as I longed for his touch. The love I felt for this man was overwhelming, and the fact that he wasn’t mine pained me to the point where I already felt myself wanting to cry.

“Hey,” he said, now right in front of me. He lifted my chin and looked into my eyes, his expression dropping when he saw the tears that were forming. “What’s wrong?” he asked.

I chuckled a bit at his question. What wasn’t wrong? Everything was wrong. “I love you,” I said with a laugh as I looked away again. That was exactly what was wrong. I loved the man who wasn’t mine.

Alan sighed, also letting out a small chuckle. He kissed my cheek quickly and then took a step back. “I made dinner for us,” Alan said, moving his right arm to motion to the dining room table. “Let’s eat a nice dinner and then I have some things I want to talk about.”

“Okay,” I said. “Me, too.”

Alan walked me over to the table and pulled a chair out for me. I had a seat and he helped scoot the chair in before he went over to the other side of the table and sat down. I looked at the food in front of us – it wasn’t anything too fancy, neither of us really had an expensive taste. There was a small bowl of salad already dished out for me, so I went straight ahead and started to eat that. There was also a glass of red wine already poured for me.

“I cooked stuffed bellpeppers,” Alan said after we had been eating our salad in silence for a while. He looked up to me with a large grin on his face. I shook my head and laughed as I remembered back when I had Alan over at my apartment to cook dinner. We attempted to cook stuffed green bellpeppers, but failed miserably. It was like a sudden goal for us. We tried cooking it two more times after that but we could never get it just right. We would always over-stuff them and cause them to explode in the over, or not stuff them enough so the food inside overcooked to a crisp.

“Wow,” I said with a laugh. “First try?”

“Yeah,” Alan said, his voice a bit higher than usual. “Okay, second try. And I might have been practicing for a while.”

Alan placed a bellpepper on my plate – stuffed to perfection. There was a small amount of meat sticking out of the end, mixed with the other vegetables he had put inside of it. It smelled delicious and I immediately poked my fork into and grabbed a small bite. I pulled it up to my mouth, but stopped before I could take a bite and looked up to Alan who was in the same position as I was, almost as if we knew that we had to take the first bite together. He smiled to me as we ate the food from our forks, each of us nodding as the flavors meshed well together.

I shook my head in disbelief as I continued to eat, admiring the fact that he remembered something so silly and actually practiced at it. It made me wonder when he practiced. On his own time when nobody was home? But then I wondered…had he practiced and cooked it for Jane?

I pushed my plate aside, suddenly not so hungry anymore as I thought of my sister. I hate eaten the majority of my bellpepper, so I didn’t feel so bad about stopping. Alan didn’t seem to notice though. He continued to eat his food, leaving only a couple of bites on his plate before he pushed it aside. He leaned back in his chair and clapped his hand on his belly, rubbing them up and down.

“I’m more stuffed than that pepper,” he commented, letting out a content sigh. He looked over to me and saw that I was sitting with my head down, my hands resting in my lap with my fingers playing with the hem of my royal blue, lace dress. “Addie?” he asked, sitting up straight.

“I think it’s time we talk,” I said softly.

Alan nodded. “One sec,” he said as he stood up and cleared the table, lazily putting the plates in the sink and not bothering to rinse them or anything. He shoved the leftovers in the fridge, grabbed the bottle of red wine, and sat back down at the table while refilling our glasses.

I began talking immediately, not wasting any time. I was sick of sitting around and wasting time. “I can’t keep going in this roundabout, Alan. I can’t keep coming back to you. I should forget you and just give up. I should have stayed away when I came back here from the beginning, and I should have stayed away especially when you stood me up – saying that you were going to leave Jane for good, and then didn’t.

“I don’t deserve this. I don’t deserve to be the second woman, especially when I know that I had you first. I’m nobody’s second choice. I’m a first choice. And I’m definitely not going to be second choice to my own sister anymore. It’s not fair to either of us. You need to choose, once and for all. Right now. Right here. Make your decision.”

Alan opened his mouth to say something, but I felt like I wasn’t done just yet. My own words frightened me – putting him on the spot like that when I knew I wasn’t ready for the answer. I kept my gaze anywhere but on Alan or on the table. I stared around the corners of the room, at my lap – anything but at Alan.

“I might not be ready for the answer, but I’m ready for all of this to be over. I know it’s hard for you leave Jane, but just be straight with me. Just tell me that it’s her you’re going to stay with and I won’t be angry – choosing me would be the difficult option, especially now that Jane has that fucking rock on her finger. I just, I-“

I stopped my rambling when my eyes looked over to the table, a reflection of light getting my attention. On top of the cleared off table – beside our wine – was a ring. A ring that was lined with diamonds. The same ring I was inspecting earlier that day.

“What’s that?” I asked, pointing at the ring, even though I knew exactly what it was. “Alan, say something. You can’t just do that. I need you to-“

“I’ve been trying to say something, but you just keep talking,” he said with a laugh. He wasn’t angry or impatient. He was completely laid back. In fact, he had been relaxed for the entire night. “It’s Jane’s ring.”

“Yeah, I know,” I said, still staring at the ring that sitting in the middle of the table. “Why is it here?”

“Because I took it back.”

I stood up at that point, shock taking my body over. I rested my left hand on my hip while my right hand covered my mouth in shock. I stared between Alan’s smiling face and the ring. I didn’t understand. He actually chose. And he chose me.

“What does this mean?” I asked, my words muffled from my hand that was still clasped over my mouth.

“I called the engagement off,” Alan said, casually. “Not like I even put it on in the first place.”

“Okay, but like, are you guys still together or just-“

Alan stood up suddenly, his chair flying back and hitting the wall behind him as he quickly walked up to me. “Addie,” he said as he placed his hands on my shoulders so he could look into my eyes. I looked away though. I knew that I was going to cry if I looked at the love in his eyes. “Look at me, Addie, it’s over. We can be together, Addie, all the bullshit is over.”

I looked into his eyes, the water immediately pooling up once again. This time, the tears actually fell down my cheeks, surely smudging my makeup. He smiled widely, his eyes searching mine, his love finally no longer put on reserve as he looked at me. He pulled my hand from my mouth and I allowed my hands to drop to my sides as I stared at him, allowing him to search my eyes. I still kept my love on hold. I couldn’t get my hopes up just yet. I couldn’t believe it.

He cupped my head in his hands, using his thumbs to brush away the silent tears that were falling. “Addie, it’s over,” he repeated. “We can be together.” He kissed my nose quickly before resting his forehead against my own, our eyes still locked the entire time.

A smile broke out across my face when I saw the tears filling up Alan’s eyes. They fell from his face, hitting my cheeks and mixing with my own tears. His emotions were finally on display – his happiness and love was finally evident. Our love.

“Things are going to be a disaster, even still,” I said with a laugh. Jane was going to be livid, and most likely going to come at our relationship with full force, using the baby as a ledger. And then there was Anouk and the others, probably going to try and fight me again. And the fans. What were the fans going to think when they find out that Alan left his girlfriend for her sister? What will they say about not only me, but him as well?

“Love isn’t easy,” Alan said with a laugh. “But I really don’t care if it’s hard or easy, as long as it’s with you.”

I couldn’t bite back the smile that his words brought me. He was right; love clearly wasn’t easy, especially for us, and the road ahead of us wasn’t going to be getting any easier. But it didn’t matter because we could finally take back our lives and face it how we should have been doing it from the beginning – together.
