Can You Fix The Broken?

Every Story Has A Beginning

“She’s fine, relax a bit.” I told Felix, seeing as that he was way beyond worried that Mia wasn’t back yet.

Mia had left around 7 in the morning to run a few errands for us, however it was now nearing 6 pm and we haven’t heard anything.

No phone calls, no texts, and any attempts to call her lead Felix and I straight to her voicemail.

“How can I relax? Do you remember the last time she went out by herself?” Felix asked, in reference to when we last had to pick her up on the middle of some country road because she had suddenly broken down with a panic attack.

Just as I was about to assure him once more, we heard the sound of our car engine cutting through the pounding of the unrelentless rain.

We let a few minutes pass, and that’s when we heard squeaky footsteps and a voice that was beyond recognizable.

“Felix, Dylan?” She yelled, getting closer.

“In the library.” I called back.

A minute later we watched as a soaking wet Mia waltzed into the room, the only thing covering her was a short black dress.

Felix ran over and pulled her into a tight embrace.

“You had me so damn worried, Mia. You didn’t call or text, how the hell was I supposed to know you’re ok?” He questioned her, grabbing her wrist tight.

“I’m so sorry, my car broke down, and my phone died. I’m perfectly fine though.” She assured him, giving him a hug.

“You’re going to be the death of me.” Felix sighed, shaking his head.

“Hey, don’t blame me. You just worry way too much. I’m an adult and I can handle myself.” Mia stated.

Now that was a lie if I’ve ever heard one.

It was approximately 9 months ago we first met, well actually saved Mia.

It was one of those events where it was so traumatic and shocking it froze you in your tracks and carved itself deep into your memory.

Felix and I had been driving back from an album release party for a few friends of ours a couple hours south of our house, and we had been on one of the most deserted country roads I’ve ever seen.

The trees canopied over the road, and casted shadows that looked practically like otherworldly creatures.

Guard rails could be spotted occasionally on the right side of the road, but they were rusted away and looked like they would blow over with a simple breath of air.

If only we knew what was coming next, we would’ve prepared ourselves to see something far more disturbing that the scenery around us.

****************(flashback in Dylan’s POV)***********

“Are you sure you’re not lost?” I asked Felix, not sure this road was familiar to either one of us.

“Fuck, I think so. I followed Chris’ directions perfectly, and the GPS is saying we’re still on route. This isn’t right though.” He stated, confusion playing across his face.

“Let’s just turn the GPS off and pull up maps on our phone.” I suggested, wanting to just get back home and to my bed.

We thankfully were in agreeance of that, and within a second the GPS was off and our phones were pulled up.

I waited and waited for the maps to come up to help us figure out where the hell we were, but they never did.

“Damn it! There’s zero signal out here, there’s no way to figure out where we are because we’re also in the middle of fucking nowhere.” Felix growled, obviously pissed off with himself, but mainly the situation we were in.

“Let’s just keep driving, we’ve got to hit a busy road eventually, right? Or even a highway.” I calmly stated, but inside I was a bit freaked out by the whole situation.

He stubbornly agreed, and as we revved up the engine, dust blew behind us once more reminding us of the gloomy surroundings.

============== 2 Hours Later

“Wake up!” Felix suddenly screamed, shaking me from my slumber.

I guess I must have dozed off after a while.

“What’s wrong?” I asked, concerned with the panic in his tone.

“I pulled over to try and get some signal again, and I looked out my window...and well...go look for yourself.” He whispered, his face whitening.

Hopping out of the car, there was the crunch of dry fall leaves under my boot that seemed to thunder through the silence.

I looked to the trees to provide me with an answer, and nothing was what I found.

“Shit.” I exclaimed, jumping at the sound of a small branch breaking below my feet.

My gaze moved down to the earth and that’s when I saw it.

Blood.

Streaks of blood painting the serene nature a mortifying crimson color.

Something was wrong.

“I think somebody’s out there.” Felix whispered, coming around the side of the truck to where I was standing.

“Hello?” I screamed into the void of the forest.

“We know someone’s there, and we just want to help you.” Felix yelled.

Truth was we were clueless as to what was going on.

For all we know there was a severely injured or dead person in these trees before us. Or maybe someone had gotten hurt, but walked to safety?

The only thing that was for certain was my fear of leaving, but unknowingly leaving someone innocent behind who was in pain and injured.

What we’d been hearing was suddenly cut through with a new sound...something far more chilling.

“Do you hear that?” I whispered, my heart racing.

He put his finger to his lips and listened closely.

I watched as his eyes grew from weary to fear ridden.

There was a soft cry coming from the dark forest.

It was clearly a feminine cry, and I knew they were in trouble.

“Don’t panic, we’re just here to help. Are you able to tell us where you are?” Felix called out.

Nothing.

No response, however the soft pitiful cries continued.

Felix out of nowhere took off and started off into the forest, where every step took you into a darkness you didn’t know existed.

“Whoa, you can’t just run out there blind.” I hissed, stopping him with my hand.

“There is an injured girl out there, Dylan. Notice anyone else anywhere even remotely close to here? Yeah, I didn’t think so, and I’m not having that haunt my conscious.” He growled, taking more steps into the woods.

I quickly followed after him, I had no idea what was going on and I’d be stupid to just let Felix go alone.

After reaching about 50 feet into the fallen brush that littered the ground he stopped dead frozen in front of me and stopped me in my tracks by putting a hand out.

That’s when I heard it.

An ever so soft shuffling of the crackling leaves, and the soft cries became louder, more apparent. There was an unmistakable pain laced into every sob.

“Please……” A broken voice sobbed out filled with pain and fear.

Felix broke out into a full blown sprint towards the voice, and I followed right on his trail. It wasn’t hard to stay on a path, after all the trail of crimson blood started up a couple feet behind us and was more prominent than ever. It was soaking the very ground we walked on.

“Oh my god.” I choked out, suddenly seeing the creator of this pleading cry.

In front of us was a girl, around the age of 20, although it was hard to estimate with all of the blood running down her face. She had gorgeous long chestnut hair and eyes so blue they seemed to pierce your soul. Her body was littered in tattered clothes that were heavily stained with blood.

“Let us help you.” Cried Felix, dropping to his knees and extending his arms to her, in an attempt to make himself seem more gentle.

I’m sure our tattooed bodies as well as our physical statures were not helping calm this girl down at all.

“No, no more pain.” She suddenly screamed, practically giving us a heart attack.

“We won’t hurt you, we want to help, please let me help.” Felix whispered, once more extending his hand.

She collapsed down onto her stomach, opposed to being on her hands and knees like she just had been.

She then whispered 4 words that haunted me, and shook me to the core, “don’t let me die.”
********************************(End Flashback)****************************

I grabbed Mia’s wrist, wet from the rain and pulled her back so she was looking at me.

Those blue eyes locked with mine, and I felt a twinge of guilt run through my body.

I watched as soft, small droplets of water trickled through her hair, and suddenly the image of Mia I had in front of me was meshing with the image of when we first saw her in the forest.

It was something that made my stomach turn.

“Don’t ever do that again.” I growled.

“We saved you once, and I can only hope to God that we’d be able to do it again. Don’t be reckless.” I finished, my tone staying harsh, dictated by my deepest fears.

Notes

Before this story gets too far along, I just wanted to let you know that there will be some darker themes present in this particular book. Also, that's why I've given this book an R Rating.

Anywho, I'm hoping you guys will like this story and have enjoyed the first chapter!

This is so totally off topic, but HOLY HELL! The website is working again!

@WednesdaysCoffin
I always get frustrated when I can't foresee the future of my book, but I tell myself that at least it means it won't be predictable. If you don't know what's coming - the reader sure as heck won't know, unless they have kick ass guessing skills.
This story is absolutely in it's early stages, and chapter by chapter I see it growing and getting to the more in depth, exciting stuff. I just posted a new chapter, so I hope you enjoy :D

@BlackVeilsinWhite
I understand completely. I started writing "Time To Waste" over a year ago, actually, and I still to this day have not decided how it's going to end and exactly how the ending will play out. So, I totally get it! It's very early days yet for this story, and I'm just excited to see where you take it and what you divulge along the way. :)

@WednesdaysCoffin
I'll be honest, you're not the only one torn about who she will end up with. I have a pretty good idea of the rest of the plot, but who knows, things can always change! The BDSM hints will continue to slowly come out and between where her love interest goes, it will all come together eventually, you have my word!

Hmm. An interesting development in this chapter. I'm kind of torn between if I want a Mia/Ryan romance or if I want to see her with someone else, ahem, who might be a little taller and have more tattoos. :) Because I am predictable like that! Though the idea is intriguing, and I'm also intrigued by the covert BDSM hints here and there that the guys are all involved in that community. I'm really curious to see where this is all heading . . . . :D
