This Town

Chapter seven

In a few short months Saint had grown close with the boys from Of Mice & Men. She was the maid of honor at Aaron and Amanda’s wedding, she and Alan took a vacation to Italy together, she got regular visits from Tino and Phil at the flower shop she worked at. Things were going great except for one thing: where she stood with Austin was still a mystery. He would hang out with her occasionally, or would call her to check up on her, but it always seemed forced. And to make matters worse Alan had forced her go on tour with them for three months. Alan was the only one that knew about Saint’s mental instability so being in such close quarters with the others was going to be hard. Saint was determined to make it work though.

“So where are we going first?” Saint asked from the passenger seat. Next to her was Austin. The rest of the guys were asleep and snoring loudly. Neither of the two blamed them, they had to pick everyone up and be on the road by four in the morning.

“Jacksonville,” Austin replied dully. Saint nodded and picked at her nails. She wanted to have a conversation with Austin but he was making it difficult. Feeling like she wasn’t welcome, Saint went to get up and move to the back lounge for a while. “Are you, um, excited for the tour?” Austin asked suddenly.

“Uh, yeah I guess. I’ve never really traveled so I’m kinda looking forward to it,” Saint responded and sat back down. “Are you excited?”

“Definitely. Tours are long and tiring, but I’ll tire of going on them. The guys and I have been so many places but touring around our home country is probably my favorite.” Saint listened intently to Austin as she stared out the large windshield of the tour bus. “So how was your vacation with Alan?”

“It was fun. We spent a lot of time sight-seeing and taking in the culture; well I did anyway. Alan was too busy trying to find places to eat and get drunk,” Saint chuckled. But she was confused as to why Austin brought it up. They had gone on that vacation months ago.

“So are you guys like… dating or something?” Austin asked awkwardly. He was trying to be casual and just have a normal conversation with Saint but he knew he was failing miserably.

“What? No! Alan is my best friend. Why are you being weird?” Saint asked incredulously. Austin shrugged but didn’t say anything. Neither of them said anything after that until they stopped in Dallas to get gas and snacks. “Do you want me to grab you anything from inside?” Saint offered to Austin who was putting gas in the bus.

“Just a monster and whatever looks good to snack on. Thanks,” Austin replied with a smile. Saint nodded and returned the smile.

“You want to fuck him,” Alan said suddenly from behind Saint. She turned around quickly, having been scared by Alan, then punched him in the arm.

“I do not,” she stated and walked inside with the gas station with the ginger.

“Well he definitely wants to fuck you,” Alan sang as they walked along the aisles and grabbed random snacks. “I personally think you guys would be cute as hell together.” Alan only knew that of course because she looked exactly like Austin’s dead wife.

“Alan, I’m only going to say this once: Austin and I are barely friends, there is no way we are going to end up fucking each other,” Saint said slowly and firmly. She was aware that the other people in the store were giving her and Alan weird looks but she didn’t care and assumed he didn’t either.

“The others agree with me too. We all think that maybe you and Austin should hook up and find some happiness,” Alan continued as they walked back to the bus with both arms full of bags.

“Why are you pushing this so hard?” Saint asked curiously. Alan shrugged but Saint couldn’t help but feel there was something going on. “Before we stopped Austin asked if you and I were dating,” she told Alan who laughed hysterically.

“Saint you’re hot but dating you would be like dating my sister.”

“And that comment was incredibly weird considering you just compared me to being your sister,” Saint teased. “But that’s pretty much what I told him.”

“Saint do you want to drive.” Austin asked when she and Alan returned from their small shopping spree.

“No, but I’ll sit with whoever does drive,” she instantly replied. Saint was a decent driver but she was used to driving a small sports car, not a giant tour bus.

“I’ll go wake up Aaron and make him drive,” Alan announced and quickly went into the bunk area of the bus. While they waited for Alan to return with Aaron, Austin and Saint began putting the snacks and drinks away. Being the clumsy person she was, Saint ended up dropping a bag of chips and bent over to pick them up. When she stood back up she was standing face to chest with Austin who was putting a box of Cheez-Its in a top cupboard.

“I um sorry,” Saint stuttered and moved away from Austin. But before she could get far he grabbed her hand and pulled her back to him. She looked up at him with wide eyes, but Austin didn’t say anything. He gently placed a hand on her cheek and rubbed it with his thumb, and then he kissed her.

“It’s okay,” Austin said softly and then into the back lounge. Saint stood there stunned. When Alan and a grumpy looking Aaron finally emerged, she shook herself out of it. “Alan do you want to play video games?” Austin called from the back lounge and Alan immediately took off for the back lounge.

“Mind if I join you?” Saint asked Aaron as he moved to the driver’s seat.

“Of course,” Aaron said happily. “Have you gotten any sleep yet?” He asked her curiously as he started the bus.

“Not since we left my house,” Saint admitted. She sat there for a moment and mentally fought with herself. “Aaron can I ask you something?” She finally spoke up. She was hesitant to ask, but the need for an answer kept nagging at her.

“Of course,” Aaron replied and glanced over at her, “what’s on your mind?”

“How… how did you know Amanda was the one?” She felt stupid for asking, but when she looked over at Aaron he was smiling fondly.

“She was the only thing I thought about. I wanted to be with her all the time and I never got tired of her. I loved everything about her, even her imperfections, and she felt the same about me. But it was when she told me she loved me that I knew she was the one. Those three simple words made me feel like the luckiest man in the world. Why do you ask?”

“Just wondering.”

“Saint wake up. Saint. Come on my little psycho it’s time to wake up.” Saint groaned and rubbed her eyes. When her vision cleared, she was met with Alan’s faces inches from her own.

“What Alan?” Saint mumbled and pushed him away.

“We’re at the venue and the guys want to go out to celebrate do you wanna come?” He asked as he sat down on the edge of the driver’s seat. At some point, Saint took a Rozerem and ended up sleeping for the remainder of the trip in the passenger seat.

“Yeah, just let me get ready really quick,” she yawned. Rather than take up the bathroom, Saint changed in the back lounge. To accompany her gold dress, she applied Egyptian inspired makeup and put her hair in a high ponytail. Just because she never wore makeup didn’t mean she didn’t know how to put it on.

“You about ready?” Tino asked from the other side of the door.

“Yeah,“ Saint responded as she opened the door. Tino whistled and held his arm out to her. Smiling, Saint placed her hand gently on his arm and followed him to the front of the bus.

“Isn’t my date beautiful,” Tino asked playfully and spun Saint around. All eyes were on them, well Saint anyway.

“Gorgeous,” Austin murmured. Saint pursed her lips then smiled softly.

“Taxi’s here!” Alan yelled excitedly. In a single file line everyone walked out of the bus and into the taxi van. Not wanting to climb over everyone, Saint settled for making herself comfortable in Austin lap.

“I hope you don’t mind," she murmured and used his shoulder for a pillow. She was still tired but was trying to fight it so she could have a good time with her friends.

“Not at all,” Austin replied and wrapped his arms around her waist to act as her seat belt. “Did Alan tell you where we were going?”

“No, he just woke me up and asked if I wanted to go.” Even though she tried to fight it, Saint ended up falling asleep. About twenty minutes later she was woken up by the feeling of being lifted.

“Hey there Sleeping Beauty,” Austin chuckled and set her down gently. Wrapping an arm around her shoulder, they led the group inside and Saint headed for the bar while the guys went to dance floor.

“I’ll have a long island ice tea please,” Saint told the bartender and handed him a ten. While she waited for her drink Saint turned around on her bar stool and watched the guys act like idiots.

“Here you go.” Saint smiled at the bartender and sipped on her drink. Alan caught her eye and motioned for him to join them. She held up her drink and shook her head. Alan smiled, taking the hint, and managed to snag a girl with long black and white hair to dance with. Tino and Phil looked like they were having a dance off while Aaron and Austin videoed and laughed at them.

Pulling out her phone, Saint sent Austin a text and watched as he read it. He looked up at her with a questioning look and she nodded encouragingly. Placing his phone back in his pocket, Austin walked over to the bar and sat down beside Saint. He ordered a shot of tequila and Saint couldn’t help but smirk. When he got his shot, Austin clinked it against Saint’s glass and tossed it back.

“Dance with me,” he instructed after Saint finished her drink. She eyed him skeptically for a moment then grabbed his hand and weaved through the mass of bodies until they were in the middle of the dance floor. They danced and laughed without a care in the world. Saint was having so much that she didn’t even realize that her shoes were gradually giving her blisters. In between dancing they took frequent trips to the bar. Saint had to limit herself because of her medications, Austin on the other hand was trashed.

“Stay the night with me,” Austin slurred and pulled Saint into his chest.

“What?” She questioned. She was sure she had heard him correctly but there was a possibility she was wrong.

“Stay the night with me,” he repeated.

“I’m staying on the bus with you idiot,” she reminded him.

“Saint I love you.” Time stopped. Saint stumbled over her words trying to find something to say, but she never got the chance. Austin ended up throwing up all over her. Groaning, she hurried to the bathroom and cleaned herself up as best she could. Once she was done she went on a mission trying to find everyone else so they could leave.

“Saint has dibs on the shower since Austin threw up on her,” Phil announced when they got back on the bus and looked pointedly at Austin. He was passed out on the couch and wouldn’t remember anything in the morning. Saint knew that and that was what made her realization sting so much.

She loved him too.

@Mrs.Brightside

I wanted to be as accurate as I could when it came to the tour everyone is on so I figured I'd add them in. There will be some mentions of Volumes too but I don't listen to them so they won't be as involved since I'm not familiar with their music.

I love the fact you added CTE. I love them so much. And I've only been to one concert without my mom too and that was Pierce The Veil, haha.

@perpetual
It's really no problem :D
