Selfish Machines

Chapter thirty-eight:

I run down the hallway and look into Vic’s room but he isn’t there. I run down the stairs and look into the living room. The house is packed. I can’t see Vic anywhere. I run outside but I still don’t see him.

“Vic!” I call out.

Where the fuck could he have gone?

I walk back inside. I cross the living room, and check out the back deck.

Jaime is sitting in the hot tub with a couple girls.

“Have you seen Vic?” I asked.

“Yeah he was looking for you and Mike about fifteen minutes ago. I told him you guys went upstairs. He didn’t seem too happy.” Jaime says.

“His Abuela died.” I say tearing up. “I can’t find him anywhere.”

“Oh shit is he okay?” Jaime asks crossing the hot tub.

“I have no idea, he came into the room started screaming at me and Mike, and then just stormed off.” I reply. “I need to go find him.”

I walk back inside and head upstairs.

I walk into the bathroom, I few tears fall.

I feel like such a piece of shit.

I look into the mirror and wipe away my tears.

That’s one way to sober up.

I leave the bathroom and walk back to Mikes bedroom.

I open the door and see him sitting on the bed with his head in his hands.

There’s a girl sitting beside him rubbing his back.

I look at the girls face.

Is that Alyssa?? I thought she moved away.

She looks up and glares at me.

“What the fuck Mike?” I say.

“Alyssa can you give us a minute.” Mike says looking at me.

“Just think about what I said Mikey.” She says standing up. She’s wearing an Iron Maiden band t-shirt and black skinny jeans. Of course just Mikes type.

“I’ll talk to you about it tomorrow.” Mike says.

She walks out of the bedroom, smirking as she walks past me.

I close the door behind her.

“Think about what ‘Mikey’?” I ask putting air quotations around Mikey.

“Don’t worry about it.” Mike says.

“Don’t worry about it? Why the fuck is she here?” I ask, starting to raise my voice.

“She said she came here to say Happy Birthday.” Mike defends.

“I turned my back for ten minutes!” I say.

“Why did you turn your back at all!” He retorts.

“Oh so this is my fault?” I yell. He stands up.

“Do you even give a shit about how I feel?” He yells back. “Oh right, I forgot it’s all about Vic!”

“Seriously you're mad about Vic?” I ask.

“You didn’t even hesitate to run after him.” Mike says. “Didn’t even bother to ask me how I felt!”

“He’s still my best friend!” I yell.

“And I thought I was your boyfriend!” He yells back.

“If you’re my boyfriend why was your ex sitting there rubbing your back?” I yell a bit louder.

“She seen I was upset and tried to comfort me, more than you did!” Mike yells.

“So why the fuck aren’t you with her!” I yell before storming out of the room.

“Why aren’t you with Vic?” He calls out.

“Fuck you!” I yell walking down the hallway.

I can not believe what an asshole Mike is being.

Back to his old ways, I guess.

Why bother telling someone you love them if you fucking don’t?

I walk downstairs to find my bottle of whiskey. I enter the living room and see it sitting on the coffee table completely empty. Of course it’s fucking empty. I walk outside to se Jaime is in the hot tub still, his mouth pre-occupied with party slut tongue. I grab his bottle sitting on the ledge and take it upstairs with me.

I lean against the back wall in my bedroom, I slide down the wall and start drinking. I can’t help but to cry.

I just ruined my relationship with Mike and Vic.

After half an hour I pass out on the floor next to the bed.
