Weird People Are The Best

Ally’s P.O.V

I kicked my feet in the air, “So what do you guys think about Echo ?” I asked Vanna and Shannon. We were currently laying down on the floor of Shannon’s living room and having a Harry Potter marathon. We had finally met our new bassist Echo earlier this day and everything seemed a disaster, other than all the awkward silences and the whole ‘what happened to Lauren’ thing and Shannon kinda going of on Echo, everything just fell apart. I kinda felt bad for the girl I could tell she was only trying to start a conversation with us and trying to get to know the band better, but I knew it wouldn't turn out great as soon as she asked about Lauren in front of Shannon. I actually thought she was great, she played bass just as good as Lauren, maybe even better. And she had a great singing voice which was a great thing for our backing vocals. And besides that she seemed really nice which was a bonus for us, a little bit shy but nice.
“She's okay I guess.” Vanna said while stuffing her mouth with popcorn.
“Well I think she's better than ‘okay’.” I said. “She's great at playing and is actually really nice and plus you guys are going to have to get used to having her around with us, we leave in five days and then after that we'll be all summer together.”
“Yeah but I don't know Ally, it just felt weird being there and playing with her when we barely even know her, how do we know she's not faking the whole being nice act thing and if she is then I'm not sure I could spend an entire summer with her” Shannon said turning the volume down from the tv, and turning around to look us.
“I'm sure she's not like that Shannon, trust me I'm good at reading people and she doesn't seem like the type of person. You guys just have to give her a chance and get to know her better and in no time you guys will start warming up to her.” I said to them, sitting up.
“Yeah that's true, I think maybe we should each spend some time with her individually and see how she is, and damn I'm out of popcorn.” Vanna said while getting up to get more popcorn. I swear that girl could eat a house made out of food and still be hungry.
“That actually seems like a good idea Ally, maybe you should call her first and ask her to hang out with you or something and then tell us how it goes and find out whether she's cool or not.” Shannon said turning her attention back to the movie.
“Okay I will but promise me you'll at least try and be nice when you're hanging out with her.” I said.
“Fineeee I promise.” She said rolling her eyes at me.
I then stood up and went to the kitchen where Vanna was currently looking through the fridge probably looking for more food. I sat at the kitchen stools. I pulled out my phone and texted Ethan asking for Echo’s number.
“Are you going to text her ?” Vanna said, while pouring herself a glass of apple juice.
“Yeah I'm going to ask her if she wants to hang out and see if she's ‘cool or not’.” I said quoting Shannon earlier.
“Oh Okay well good luck with that.” She said walking back to the living room with a handful of food.
Ethan the gave me her number and I put in the number as a new contact and texted her.

Ally: Heyy Echo! How are you ? I was wondering if you wanted to hang out somewhere so we could talk and have a new friend girl hangout thing or whatever you want to call it haha & its Ally btw :)
Echo: Hi Ally :) I'm good thanks for asking and yes I would love to, where should we meet ?
Ally: Do you know the coffee shop near downtown ?
Echo: The one next to the town's library ?
Ally: Yes that one!
Echo: Then yes! we could meet there tomorrow morning and then after we can both go back to the studio together, does that sound good ?
Ally: Yeah sure I'll see you then, bye

Great I'll be spending the morning with her tomorrow, can't wait to see how this is going to turn out.

*next morning*

Echo’s POV
I was already sitting in the coffee shop where I was going to meet up with Ally. I tried desperately to keep my fingers from trembling too much by clenching them around my coffee cup.
Why did Ally want to meet up with me? Sure, she texted me that she just wanted to hang out, but I couldn’t stop the thought that she was suspicious of me or something.
Oh god! Maybe she would even throw me out of the band! I mean, it made sense, right? She was kind of the leader of the band. Maybe she was responsible for kicking people out of the band and did she want to meet up with in a neutral environment to kick me out.
Although I didn’t get along with the girls just yet, I really didn’t want to leave the band. It would only prove again that no one actually liked me. Besides, they were amazing musicians and the opportunity to work with them was so amazing.
I looked up when I heard the bell of the coffee shop go off, suggesting someone entered the shop. Ally walked in and looked around the place, probably searching for me. Her dark hair fell loosely over her shoulders and she wore a blouse with a high-waist skirt. This girl’s clothes were always on point. Except for the day I met her, actually. She had had a big coffee stain on her clothes.
I waved my hand in there so she would see me and she immediately noticed me. She smiled and walked my way. “Hey, I’m gonna order and then I’ll come back, okay?” she sounded enthusiastic and it made me feel a little more comfortable. She wouldn’t be so upbeat if she was about to kick me out of the band.
I smiled and nodded. A few minutes later she came back with a cup of steaming coffee and sat down across from me on our table.
“This maybe sounds a little bit weird, but I’m going to ask anyway.” I said and hated myself for being so straightforward. “I know you just asked me to hang out, but I can’t help wondering why I’m here?...I mean why you wanted me to be here.” I corrected myself quickly.
Ally looked surprised with my question and I wanted to slap myself. Maybe she really just wanted to hang out and I ruined it. Maybe I was being paranoia again. But at the other hand my paranoia had always been right…
“Sorry I always say the wrong things.” I said trying to laugh at it.
Ally giggled and smiled at me. “No, it’s okay. I get why you’re a bit surprised I asked you to hang out.” She said. “Look, I just noticed that you felt a little uncomfortable around the group and I wanted to make sure you don’t anymore. Besides, I want to get to know you a little bit better. I mean we have to spend a lot of time together in the future.”
I sighed and nodded. “Thank god. For a moment I thought you were gonna throw me out of the band.” I said and let out an awkward giggle.
Her eyes got big and she giggled a bit too. “You thought that we would throw out such an amazing bassist as you? You must think we are crazy!” she said.
I blushed a bit, the only people that ever told me I was good at something were the guys of All Time Low and my parents. “Well if someone is crazy, it’s me.” I said looking down at my coffee.
“You’re not crazy.” She giggled.
I looked up and smiled. “I’m the weirdest!” I said.
“That’s okay. Weird people are the best!” she said and I laughed. She was actually sort of easy to talk to. Talking to her kind of made me feel like I was actually a social person.
“Well, then you’ll love me.” I said.
“I’m sure I will. But tell me something about yourself.” Ally said and she took a sip or her coffee.
I got a little nervous. I was not good at describing myself. “Uhm. I’m twenty years old. I grew up in Baltimore. I love music. Practically every kind of music. I’m a big fan of punk and metal, but sometimes I find myself more in the mood for indie, classical music or even reggae or country sometimes. I have a huge obsession with astrology. I love everything supernatural and spiritual, I’m pretty sure I always wanted to be a mermaid when I grew up.” I said and I took a deep breath, because I was out of breath from talking fast.
She chuckled. “Who didn’t want to be a mermaid when they grew up?” Ally asked and I chuckled. “But astrology? That’s interesting. What zodiac sign do you think I am?” she moved her hands under chin, like she was challenging me.
I squinted my eyes at her, like I was able to look through her. In my mind I was going through everything I had learned about the twelve zodiac signs. “Mmmh…I think you are a Libra…no a Gemini!” I said.
Her eyes got big and she laughed. “Holy shit. You’re right, I’m a Gemini! My birthday is on June eleventh.” She said.
I smiled and pretended like I was wiping something off my shoulder. “I’m a natural.” I said whipping my hair over my shoulder.
“Yes, you are.” She said and she rolled her eyes. “So what zodiac sign are you then?”
I was happy she wanted to talk about stuff I liked. It was always easier to talk if I knew a lot about the topic. “Well, I’m an Cancer, but I’m a Sagittarius moon and a Virgo ascendant so yeah.” I said and then I realized I she probably didn’t know what these things were. “Sorry, I got a bit carried away.”
She laughed. “Stop apologizing, silly!” she said. “So why don’t you explain to me what that means.”
I started explaining to her and for the first time I felt like someone was actually interested in what I had to say. The only person that actually asked me questions about myself was Alex. I guess there were more people like him that could get used to my personality somehow.
Even though I noticed that we were still a little awkward around each other, I still felt like this was going well. But still a thought crept inside my mind, a thought telling me that she was just acting like she liked me and would drop me when she didn’t need me anymore. It wouldn’t be the first time something like that happened.
But for now I let that thought go. The time went fast and we talked about a lot of stuff. Half an hour later we were talking about relationships somehow. I don’t know how we came to this, but it just happened. “So do you have a boyfriend or a girlfriend, Ally?” I asked. “Or a crush of course.”
She sighed and shook her head no. “Nope.” She said popping the ‘p’. “I’m forever alone I guess.”
I giggled. “I can relate. I actually never had a relationship before.” I said. “I think people are just not attracted to me.”
“Don’t say that! There’s someone out there for everyone!” she said. “I truly believe that. And what about Alex then? You guys are best friends, right? Haven’t you two ever…”
To be honest, people asked us that all the time, but I just didn’t see why people would think that. I mean, I understood why he had so many female fans. He was quite handsome, but I just didn’t see him as more than a friend. I didn’t want to either. Love always ended badly, and I didn’t want to lose the only person that could actually stand me. “Oh god no!” I said a bit too loud.
Ally laughed. “I don’t think a lot of girls would react that way to Alex Gaskarth.” She said.
“Oh well, I just see him as a brother. It would be really weird if we would be together.” I said and I violently shook my head. “Nope. Nope. Nope.”
“I thought we both agreed that weird is a good thing.”
“Yes, but this would be weird in a bad way.”
Ally laughed at my remark. “Oh well, maybe we both meet someone at Warped. A hot guitarist or maybe a geeky merch guy or something.” She said.
“Who knows? Warped is always full of surprises!” I said optimistic. I felt a lot less afraid than before.
