The Warped Tour Doctor

Chapter 6: The Main Stage - Mountain View, California

I don’t know why I had asked Lily to hang out tonight, especially after I saw her with Oli this morning. Something about her just kept drawing me in. It shouldn’t even bother me, she’s not my girlfriend, but it really pissed me off. Oli is a great friend of mine, but I seriously considered punching him as he left her bus. I knew I was being irrational about this girl, usually I’d be high fiving Oli for getting with a girl that hot. I wanted to be a good friend, but I couldn’t bring myself to be nice- especially when I had her first. I had finished my set and showered, and I was ready to go meet up with Lily and the rest of PTV.

The main stage, I’m catching the end of PTV’s set.

I headed toward the main stage, when Alan caught up to me. He waved and jogged over, “Austin! What’re you doing tonight?”, he asked.

“I’m hanging out with Lily and the PTV boys, wanna come too?” I asked. He nodded, and bounced up and down on his heels happily.

“Hell yeah, dude! I gotta meet the girl that’s got you goin’ crazy!”, Alan said enthusiastically with a laugh.

“Alan, I love you, but shut up the fuck up”, I said, not wanting to admit he was right. Lily really did have me going crazy, but I certainly didn’t want him saying something like that in front of her. We finally reached the main stage, then headed backstage. I saw Lily sitting on a storage crate on the side wing of the stage watching PTV sing Hell Above, and she waved, giving Alan and I a smile as we sat down next to her. It was way too loud to talk backstage, but it gave me a chance to look a Lily. She looked so different in a white lab coat and scrubs, I knew she was a doctor but she never really seemed like one until now. I refocused my attention back to PTV just as they finished their set and ran off. I high fived all the guys, “awesome set, man!”

Alan nodded in agreement, “fuck yeah it was!” I was glad I brought Alan actually, I really wanted him to meet Lily.

Vic turned towards Lily and asked, “so what did you think?” He looked at her excitedly, hoping she would like their music.

Lily looked at all four of the guys, “you were all amazing! It’s a lot different than my usual classic rock, but I like it!”

Jaime motioned to himself and said, “please, I’m in the band. As if a girl could not love us!” He struck a pose and flexed, causing Lily to laugh while Mike and Tony just rolled their eyes.

“Don’t hurt yourself, I just got off duty!”, Lily said with a smile. “I’m going to head back to my bus to change out of my work clothes, I’ll meet you guys back at your bus?” The boys nodded and she headed off.

Vic called out, “hey, Lily, wait up! I’ll come with you”, and he followed her out through the crowds. I couldn’t help but wondering if there was something going on with Lily and Vic, I knew he was single and wanted a girl. He had definitely seen her with Oli last night though, and Vic was a one person at a time kind of guy. I just needed to know I had a shot with her, and that she hadn’t already been swept up by someone else.

Alan, the rest of PTV, and I all headed back to their bus. On the way there I found myself walking next to Mike and I asked, “do you know if something is going on with your brother and Lily?”

He shrugged, “I don’t know man, I heard she’s with Oli, but if she’s single I’m first in line. She’s hot as fuck!”

Tony rolled his eyes at Mike and said, “seriously, I swear you’ll chase after any girl who parties hard. I think Vic was with her this morning though.”

Jaime interrupted him and said, “everyone’s been talking about her since last night! We all expected a doctor to be no fun and uptight, but I think she’ll make tonight fun!”

Alan spoke up, “so what exactly are we doing tonight?” We entered PTV’s bus and saw massive water guns laying on their lounge table.

Jaime and Tony cheered at the same time, “WATER GUN FIGHT!”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A few hours and a change of soaked clothes later, we had finished our water gun fight and had been sitting around a makeshift bonfire outside in a clearing nearby to PTV’s bus that Tony, Jaime, and Alan had created while roasting s'mores. Everyone was heading back to their buses to make it in time for bus call. Alan and I put out the fire and started walking back to our bus, exhausted from the day and our water gun fight.

“I see why you like her”, Alan said, “she’s so much fun! She totally got me today, she soaked me!” I’m really happy Alan liked her, and I really wanted the rest of the guys to get to know her too. I wanted to make her mine, and have her around. I felt in my pocket to pull out my phone, but I didn’t have it on me and must have dropped it earlier.

“Shit, Alan, tell Brian I’m probably going to be late for bus call, I left my phone!” I said before jogging off back to the bonfire. When I got there I was that Vic and Lily were still sitting there, talking, and I decided to eavesdrop on their conversation.

I could hear Vic talking, “you know everyone’s talking about you after last night, right?” He sounded almost concerned, and Lily just nodded.

“I’m used to it”, she said sadly, “but it’s not what it looks like.” Wait, is she saying she’s not into Oli after all?

“That’s good to hear, Oli doesn’t really have the best reputation with women”, Vic said. He quickly followed up, “he’s a great friend to me, but maybe shouldn’t be to you.”

She hung her head and said so quietly I could barely hear, “who says I’m any good either?” Vic put his arm around her comfortingly, and stayed silent. Lily continued, “I destroy everyone who gets close to me. It’s what I do, and I can’t stop. Oli might not be the right guy, but I’m certainly not the right girl.” She almost sounded angry, and I instantly regretted listening to something so personal that wasn’t meant for me. She picked up her phone likely looking at text, then got up. She turned to Vic sighed, and said, “I’ve got to go. I’ll text you later.”

Vic stood up and asked, “where are you going? Your bus is the opposite direction and it’s almost bus call and you have to be back in time so we can get on the road to next venue.”

She shrugged, “I’m going to see Oli, he has something I need.” Vic just shook his head, likely knowing not to try to talk her out of it, and pulled into a hug before leaving. And, shit, he was heading in my direction. I tried to hide, but it was too late.

“So, how long have you been standing there?” Vic asked clearly annoyed I had been eavesdropping on their conversation. He handed me my phone, “you also forgot this.”

“I, uh, you know, just came back for my phone of course”, I said knowing I was completely unconvincing.
Vic just sort of looked at me before asking, “you like her, don’t you?” Dammit, Vic always knew just how to read everyone.

I looked down at my feet and answered softly, “yeah, I guess I really do.” It may not have been my best move telling a guy who was probably into her too that I liked her, but it was too late now. But it didn’t matter, all that matter was I knew I had a chance with Lily now.

Notes

So, this is kinda a filler chapter to give you some insight to both Austin and Lily. Austin really wants a chance with Lily, but didn't want to put himself out there without knowing he at least had a shot. And Lily is hinting that maybe she doesn't really like Oli as much as it seems to everyone else, but still hasn't really cleared up if she's into Vic at all.

So, do you guys like the story so far? Who do you like her with?
