Never Giving Up

Chapter One

Alan groaned as his alarm sounded. Another day at school, another day he didn't want to go, and another day he was forced to go. He reluctantly pulled himself out of bed, tiredly dragging himself to the bathroom. He hopped into the shower very quickly, trying to wash the sleep away. When he got out he dried himself off, wrapping a towel around his waist and doing his morning routines. After he pulled on some band shirt, black skinny jeans and a random pair of vans. He decided to pull on a grey sweatshirt as well seeing it was only the middle of February but it wasn't that cold. He grabbed his bag and his phone, running downstairs and walking out the door. Thankfully for him, he lived right next to a small coffee shop where he grabbed his coffee every morning. He went into the shop and ordered his coffee, paying and walking out like any other morning. He put his earphones in and started listening to Slipknot as he walked to his least favorite place, high school. He walked onto the campus, ignoring the jeers and yells from some of the other boys. It was just like any other day. He sighed and frowned, sipping his coffee. He wasn't looking where he was going when he bumped into someone, spilljng his coffee all over the ground. "Great..." He grumbled, picking up is now empty styrofoam cup. He looked up at who he bumped into and immediately felt small, like smaller than usual. This guy was really tall, like really tall. He had dark brown hair and wore a plaid flannel and skinny jeans. "Sorry about that.." Alan mumbled, blushing lightly and quickly walked away from the other, clearly embarrassed. He threw his empty cup away and ran up to class. He sat down in his first period physics class, his mind plagued with the thoughts of the stranger he bumped into. He'd never seen him around before, was he a new student? He was torn out of his thoughts when a paper ball was thrown at him, hitting him directly in the back of his head. He groaned under his breath, glaring at the person who threw it. Aaron Pauley, of course. He didn't expect any less. It had been like this all year. First period ended quickly and Alan went to his next class, continuing down his schedule until it was lunch time. Alan never ate at lunch, he hated school lunch. He took a seat next to Shayley, taking out his phone. Tino and Phil sat across from them. "So you know there's a new music teacher right?" Shayley said, smiling. Phil nodded and laughed. "I heard he's really young too! Like 22 or 23." He continued and Alan thought back to the morning. 'Maybe that's who I saw.." He thought to himself before Shayley waved a hand in front of his face. "Earth to Ashby! Were you even listening?" He asked, his face in a pout. Alan looked up at him. "Yeah I was, we have a new music teacher of some shit right?" He said boredly, looking back down at his phone. "No after that! I said I'm having a party Saturday." Shayley corrected, flicking Alan's temple. "And you're coming." He finished matter-of-factly. Alan rolled his eyes and nodded as Shayley, Tino, and Phil continued talking and eating. It was always the same it seemed, Shayley threw parties all the time, everyone got drunk off their asses and then felt like shit the next day. Everyone loved Shayley Bourgets parties. After lunch and two other classes, Alan finally had music with his threw friends. Everyone sat on the risers, waiting for the new teacher. When he walked in almost everyone got silent, a few whispers passing around. Alan's eyes widened. It was the man from this morning. The new teacher smiled at everyone and waved, pointing at the board. "My name is Mr.Carlile, and I'll be your teacher for the rest of the year."
