A Recollection of Ideas: A Series of One Shots

Synners and Turtles

Tony’s POV

“Tone!”

“TONY!”

“A TURTLE’S ON FIRE!” Okay, I was paying attention now. I jumped up, ripping my headphones out, and looking everywhere. There wasn’t a scent of smoke, nor a little turtle on fire. I scowled at my fellow bandmates.

“Not cool.” I growled. Jaime laughed. Mike smirked.

“Hey, had to get your attention somehow!” He countered. I sighed and looked back to my laptop screen. The bus was stopped at a little rest stop in Arizona during a break from one of our tours. We were somewhere in the middle of the state and I was busy spending the hours by chatting with some girl on a fanfiction site for our band. Honestly, I was never interested in those fanfiction sites mostly because I would always run into some smutty scene between me and Mike and I don’t think I would ever look at him the same way if I kept on reading those.

However, I was really into this one, called Drunken Summers. Yeah, it had me in it, but I wasn’t the bad guy of the story, so that helped my enthusiasm about it. The girl was pretty cute as well. And man, I was in the middle of reading the thirteenth chapter and I was in trouble. I had just gotten drunk and accidentally cheated on Syn. Damn, I was an idiot!

Anyways, I was hooked on this story, and I had gotten a little chat up with the author. She had no clue who she was talking to, which made it all the sweeter. It was her, whoever UnholyAngel667 was. It was pure, raw, and not clouded with that view that fans always got when they met us.

“Come on, you’ve been in your bunk all afternoon. Come get a drink with us.” Mike suggested. My eyes widened.

“NO! Last time I did that, I cheated on my girlfriend!” I gasped. Vic gave me an odd look. Jaime just shook his head.

“Syn isn’t real!”

“Wait, how’d you know her name?” I questioned about the story. I hadn’t told anyone about the story, let alone the name. Everyone turned to Jaime, who was blushing.

“Well, I, uh, just guessed?” He stuttered. Vic punched his arm.

“Spill!”

“Okay! Okay! I was curious what Tony was so into so I hacked into his laptop and looked and started reading the story on my laptop and got really into it!” He defended. I smiled, despite being angry he hacked into my laptop.

“See, it’s good, isn’t it?” I asked. Jaime nodded, grinning.

“Dude, I’ve got a smokin’ hot babe called Lily-Ann in the story. She’s such a sweetheart.” We bumped fists as the Fuentes brothers groaned. Jaime jumped into his bunk, supposedly to go and read.

“Looks like we’re alone.” Mike grumbled as those two walked out. I got back onto my laptop, anxious to listen to music and read again.

A message popped up onto my account.

That’s right. I had gotten an account. My username was TurtlePowerTaco. Soooooo original, I know, I know.

UnholyAngel667: So how’s work going? You said you worked with guitars?

I smiled at that, getting butterflies in my stomach. I know it’s stupid, but I’m kind of falling for her. We’d gotten to know each other over the past few weeks. I knew she had brown hair and hated that it was oddly dark at the end, she had golden eyes, and absolutely loved PTV (No surprise there!). I would gladly talk to her about the band anytime she wanted.

TurtlePowerTaco: Yeah, I’m traveling for a little bit, playing guitar at some places. I’m in Arizona right now.

UnholyAngel667: No way! I live in Arizona!

I stopped in surprise as I read the message. Jaime screamed from his bunk and threw a pillow at my face.

“YOU ASS!” He yelled. Looks like he had gotten to chapter thirteen! I chuckled and flipped him off before tossing the pillow back at him. He was yelling about something but I turned my music up. With shaky hands, I couldn’t believe that UnholyAngel667 lived in Arizona. Was there a possibility we could…meet? I really wanted to thank her for giving me such a good fictional girlfriends.

TurtlePowerTaco: No waaaaay! Where do you live? Okay, that was really creepy, but I’m playing a gig in Sedona in a couple days.

UnholyAngel667: Seriously!? I live right outside there! What shop? Probably Danny’s Guitars and Gigs, I’m guessing?

I bit my lip, trying to think of what to say next. We had a gig in Sedona alright, but it wasn’t at Danny’s Guitar and Gigs, more at the stadium just outside there. I’ll have to think up something.

TurtlePowerTaco: I think so. I’ll have to check with my manager. Can I message you the place when I know for sure? I am sure that it is this Saturday, though :)

I could almost hear her scream in excitement. Or maybe that was Jaime. Either was, I was giddy to meet her. Once it was Friday, I’ll tell her where it really was at and then we can meet and I’ll give her a backstage pass. I had it all figured out!

All I had to do was wait…

Friday Afternoon….

I came back from lunch with the guys, immediately hopping on my computer. The machine wasn’t going fast enough and the bus wasn’t either! I was just so excited. We just passed into the border of Sedona and were pulling up to park in the back of a restaurant, hiding the van so fans weren’t constantly swarming us.

As I pulled onto the sight, I noticed only one notification, a message. Yes! She had messaged me to tell me that she could go for sure! I opened it with a wide grin. Jaime was going onto the others about what I had done in chapter thirteen. Mike shut him up by talking about the gardening season. Jaime howled, as if in pain.

UnholyAngel667: I’m sorry, but I can’t make it Saturday. Things…happened. It just hurts.

TurtlePowerTaco: Oh no, can you tell me what happened? Do you want to talk about it?

I saw the message had barely been sent an hour ago. I would have to wait for her answer. I was really worried about her. What was going on?

I didn’t have to wait long.

UnholyAngel667: My dad left us. He just packed up and left. He’s not coming back, I know that for sure. We tried calling. He just yelled at my mom. She was crying. I’m in my room. I can’t go out. My mom’s still crying. He’s not coming back, Turtle. He’s not.

I nearly broke down crying for her. That poor girl! How could a father just do that to their child!?

TurtlePowerTaco: Oh no…I’m so sorry. Really, I am. That’s terrible, horrible. Is there any way I could help?

UnholyAngel667: Unless you could come to my house and take me from this torture, I doubt it. Thanks, though. :(

At that moment, I nearly jumped out of my bunk. I asked one more message. She gave me a response, one simple address: The blue house at the end of Baker Street. At that, I leapt out of my bunk and ran through the front lounge, out the door. Vic leaned out the window.

“TONE! Where ya going?” He questioned. I stopped long enough to yell back the address.

“What?” Jaime questioned and jumped out the window after me. He caught up easily.

“That girl?”

“Yep.”

“What happened?” He asked. I gave him a quick rundown. Jaime slowed down and pulled up the coordinates on his phone GPS. With that, we were off.

Fifteen minutes later….

There it was, the house. Jaime and I were out of breath. Himes said that he would go let the others know and went to sit on a bench at a nearby park. I saw him just down the street.

There wasn’t a car in the short driveway. Instead, I walked up to the front door. Taking a deep breath, I knocked. There was some sobbing and it affirmed I had come to the right house.

I sure hoped it wasn’t her mom that opened the door. A strange man with tattoos and large gauges was probably an unwelcome sight in times of grief…

Her mom did open the door and gave me the strangest look. I waved awkwardly.

“Hello. My name’s Tony. I came for uh…um…UnholyAngel667?” I finally asked. The mom squinted at me before starting to close the door. A girl appeared on the second story.

“Dad?” She asked and then started to descend the stairs. The mom looked behind her, shaking her head but not saying a word.

“UnholyAngel?” I asked. The girl froze in her tracks as she looked up. The brown haired girl with golden eyes looked at me. She was my age, or she looked close to it. Her mouth dropped open.

“Turtle?” She asked quietly. I nodded, eyes wide and pleading.

“Syn, do you know this man?” Her mother asked. I looked at her in wonder.

“You’re Syn!?” I exclaimed. She blushed and nodded. Her mother finally sighed and opened the door, just walking away from it all to go and wail some more on the phone.

I stepped into the house, closing the door behind me. Syn just stood there in shock.

“Y-you’re Tony, not Turtle…”

“I am, I am.” I reaffirmed. She broke down in tears and I just held the girl in my arms as she cried. I let her get out her sorrows from when her father left. She hugged me tightly.

“Hey, you wanna meet some friends of mine?” I asked her quietly. She nodded stiffly, wiping her eyes. I kissed her forehead, trying to reassure her.

“They’re big fans of your stories.” I laughed softly. She smiled. As I led her out of the house, she yelled to her mom that she was going out. I don’t know if her mom heard her or not, but we kept walking.

A very frazzled Jaime ran down the street. He stopped with us.

“Are you the author?” He asked, panting. Syn nodded. I wrapped an arm around her waist.

“OHMYGOSHYOUNEEDTOWRITECHAPTERFOURTEENIMEANWHATHAPPENSANDTONY’SADICKIKNOWBUTSERIOUSLY!?!?!?!?” He yelled all at once. Syn laughed. I couldn’t help but join in.

“I’ll get it up, I promise.” She chuckled softly. Jaime nodded and ran off, yelling something about the bus. I led her on.

“Hey you wanna see a concert?” I asked. She just looked at me with renewed happiness.”

“Of course.”
