You Can't Escape
Chapter 9
Daniella’s POV
By the time I told the boys about my sister, one thing I wouldn’t ever tell my best friend, if I had one, let along a group of guys I’ve only know a short time, Madison ran up to us. “What the fuck Danni. Are you trying to stay here forever? Why would you tackle that guy? I don’ t care if he deserved it you are being monitored 24/7. Doing that might of cost you your chance of getting out in time.” Madison had her hands crossed with her hip popped out a little. Something like what my mom use to do when I did something wrong when I was little and she was mad at me. Oh god why did I think of my mother. Please don’t start crying again come on Daniella keep it together. “I’m sorry, but he was talking about my sister that he had hurt before and she’s my little sister, I’ve kept her and my brother safe for years from my dad, but I couldn’t keep her safe from him. I should have never let him stay at my house, it is one mistake I will not let happen again.” I said trying to choke back tears.
Austin came next to me and rested his hands on my shoulders trying to calm me down, which helped a little. I looked back and let a little smile escape from my lips and he flashed one back at me. I looked back at Madison. “Listen, he can’t hurt your sister while he’s in here and he’s in here way longer then you are, unless of course you do something stupid. Please for everyone’s sake can you just try and keep your distance from him and if he tries to talk to you or hurt you then come find me, I’ll take care of him.” I nodded.
It was starting to get dark out so Madison went to go do her nightly rounds. The guys and I sat around the courtyard and talked for a while about everything. I was still sitting with Austin and just something about him was really intriguing. Was it the way his hair framed his face perfectly? Or his dark chocolate eyes that I could literally get lost in? Whatever it was I liked it. His inked sleeve was wrapped around the back of my neck and I was resting my head on his chest while we all talked. I’m surprised none of the guys have said anything about it yet. “I’ll be right back. I got to go take a piss.” Mike decided to announce himself as he got up and started to walk back into the dreaded building where we were trapped. “Thanks for sharing!” I yelled at him and he flipped be the bird. I rolled my eyes at him as he walked away.
Madison’s POV
I was doing my nightly rounds when someone tapped me on the shoulder. I turned around to see Cody standing there. “Oh hi Cody. How are you doing? Are you getting the hang of the place yet?” I asked him smiling. I didn’t like what Danni told me about him, but he still is one of my patients so I had to be polite to him. “I am actually doing great. Except for the fact that one of the girls attacked me earlier, but I’m fine.” He smiled at me and I looked down trying to choose my words carefully. I looked back up at him and smile. “I’m sorry that happened, but I’m glad your okay. Do you know why she did it?” I asked curiously to see what he would say. “I was talking to this group of guys that she was with just trying to get to know them they all seemed pretty chilled and just out of no where she tackles me and starts to strangle me, she was screaming about, I guess it was her sister and to leave her alone. I wasn’t quite sure what she was talking about. I guess that’s why she’s in her though to get her self better.” I looked at him as he finished his sentence and added a smile afterwards. “Well Danni has been through a lot. He father physically abused her and her family and after she got sent here her father killed her mother. I’m sure she’s under a lot of stress right now not being able to take care of her little brother and sister.” I responded acting like I didn’t know he was lying. “Oh that’s such a shame. I’ll be sure to pray for her and her family to be safe during this time of loss and pain.”
I looked at him trying to read his face. “Your religious?” I asked him curiously? “Yes. I’m Christian and I suppose you are too.” He said pointing to the gold cross the laid against my chest. “Yeah I am.” He smiled again. “Well it looks like it’s my lucky day.” “Why’s that?” I asked him. “Well because I met a really nice girl who’s good and super cute.” I blushed and he smiled. “Look I know that I’m a patient here which probably to you makes me seem a little crazy, but I’m really not. I am a good guy. I just made a few mistakes but now I’m making up for it. So please don’t think of me as anything other than a friend at the least.” I smiled and nodded at him and he leaned in and kissed me on the cheek. “Good night Madison.” I blushed like an idiot. “Goodnight.” I replied and he walked off to his room.
Mike’s POV
I went to the bathroom and I came out to the hallway where I saw Madison talking to Cody. Call me an eavesdropper all you want but I had to find out what they could have been talking about cause I can guarantee you it wasn’t directions to the laundry room. I walked down the hallway past them casually like I wasn’t even noticing them and duct into my brothers room, which was in earshot of the conversation. I listened to them intently and then watch Cody walk away. Danni is like a sister to me now. I’ve never had anyone but Vic that I could talk to about anything and everything to her. I wasn’t going to let this stand. I walked straight up to Madison not covering up that I was pissed. “What the hell was that?” I asked her angrily. Her eyes flashed up at me, first confused then in realization. Fear drowned into her eyes. “What?” She asked me. “What? You know what.” I whisper yelled at her. “That guy has hurt Danni and her family and your just going to flirt with him, some friend you are. Besides if he’s as bad as Danni has led him on to be than I don’t think you should be getting all that close to him.” She looked at me with saddened eyes.
“I…. I don’t know what to say.” Was the only thing she could muster up. I felt the expression on my face soften up when she said that. “I didn’t mean to upset you. It’s just I care about Danni and you. A lot and I don’t want to see either of you get hurt.” “You care about me? She asked shocked. “Of course I do. You have helped me so much these last few weeks and I don’t know what I would of done with out you. I just hope that one day I can return the favor.” She looked away blushing. “I’m supposed to help you. It’s my job.” I shook my head. “No. Your job is to make sure we eat, and don’t go crazy and kill each other, but you do so much more than that. You have become our friend you have helped all of us cope with being stuck in this place, you’ve kept us safe, and most importantly you’ve made us feel like we not in this alone. You don’t have to do it. You do it because that’s how good of a person you are. And I will thank you for years from now for it.” She whispers. “Your welcome.” I smile and hug her. Once we let go I tell her that I’ll talk to her later and I go back out with the group.
