Leaving the cave, going into the unknown

Chapter 63

Finally it was time to go home. The last show was played, the gear all packed and we were all exhausted. We were currently in Colorado and while the gear was going to be driven back with the bus we all decided to fly home. This would be Melody’s first flight and I was very nervous. I remember seeing those annoying crying babies that everyone hates during flights and I didn’t want to be one of those mothers that didn’t know what to do.

I had taken every precaution to make sure that she would be entertained for the 7-hour flight. My laptop had every movie that she liked, we had toys galore and all the boys were prepared to do everything it took to make sure she didn’t cry. After going through security we were sat waiting in the boarding section, the boys had gone to get us some food for the flight so I was sitting with Alan while he was holding Dee.

“Your leg is bouncing which means you’re worried. You have no need to worry because she’s going to be fine. Look at her she’s happy all the time and if she does cry we have 3 plans to make her stop and worrying will just stress her out cause she knows when you worry.” Alan said. I looked at her and she gave me a confused look, I just let out a deep breath and took her from Alan holding her in a tight hug.

“You’re right, she’s practically an angel all the time so why wouldn’t she be now. I’m surprised she’s so patient considering you bounce around all the time; I swore she was going to take after you.” I joked and laughed while tickling Dee so she would giggle along with me.

“Ya ya laugh all you want girls I’ll just wallow always inside.” He laughed while helping me tickle Dee who loved it. We settled down and I heard a ding on my phone, I opened it to see I had an Instagram tag. I saw a video Austin had just taken of Alan and myself tickling Dee with the caption:

‘Love hearing the sound of my godchild’s laughing, these two make the best parents’ - @austincarlile

I looked up to see Austin smiling at us and went over to give him a hug sandwiching Dee in the middle. She started to squirm in the middle so I pulled away only to have her try and squirm to Austin for a solo hug.

“Oh I see how it is, doesn’t want me in on the hug. Here you can cuddle for a bit but we’re boarding soon so make it quick.” Austin nodded while I sat down next to Alan. I looked over to see Val coming back with food in hand, I moved over slightly so she could sit down next to us and watch Austin play with Dee.

“You know he’s going to make a really great Dad some day.” I whispered to Val while she handed me my food, Alan went over to the other guys who we’re eating closer to the food court.

“Ya well some day is coming sooner than I thought, I’m pregnant.” She whispered, my head shot up and over to look at her.

“What? Does he know? Are you sure?” The words were spitting out of my mouth faster than ever before.

“Ya I went to a doctor and she did the proper testing, I’m 2 months along and no he doesn’t know. I’m going to tell him tonight, I set up the bedroom with little baby clothes and shoes so when he walks in he’ll see it. I wanted to tell you first because I look up to you as a mom especially with the situation you’re in,e and I hope that you’ll be able to give me a lot of advice because I’m honestly scared shitless.” She laughed a bit. I pulled her into a hug and whispered into her ear.

“You’re going to be a great mom and of coarse I’ll be there for whatever you need. Congratulations.”

“Come on guys flight is boarding.” Austin said as he came up too us with Dee on his hip. I grabbed her while Alan grabbed all the bags and we headed onto the plane. I sat Dee on my lap while we waited for the rest of the plan to board. She was very curious looking around everywhere, she had her exploration face on. Austin and Val were in the seats in front of us and Dee must have caught onto that because she started to kick the seat Austin was sitting on. He turned around with a fake mad look on his face.

“Hey! Don’t do that.” He said while reaching over to tickle her, eventually he had to stop because we had to put our seat belts on.

Surprisingly Dee was all right during the flight; in fact she fell asleep right after take off. She woke up an hour before we landed and spent the time sitting on Alan’s lap while looking out the window at the clouds. I had to remind myself that this was my life and how lucky I was to be living it.

Alan and I decided to get married in 6 months so we would have enough time to plan and we wouldn’t interfere with Tom and Kate’s wedding that was in a week. I couldn’t wait to start planning with him; they’re home for 3 weeks before they have to leave again but this time without Dee and myself. We talked about it and decided that it was best that we sat this one out because he didn’t want Dee to get used to an unorganized schedule and time zones, as hard as it was to say I had to agree.

At least at this age she couldn’t physically ask where her Dad was all the time but she defiantly felt the loss of him. In time she would get used to it but I hope that she wouldn’t get so used to it that they wouldn’t have a relationship. I think too far into the future but what else are you to do on a 7-hour plan ride?
